Review summary

This was our FIRST cruise and LAST on a Princess ship. We were celebrating our 50th Anniversary and the cruise line did little to show congratulations. The excuse was that there were engine problems and the ship could not travel as quickly as originally scheduled. The ship should have never left the port. We looked so forward to our first scheduled excursion and when they canceled the day of our expected tour, they gave us a $100 onboard credit, which will never cover our missed opportunities to see the places we expected to see and what we had originally purchased. Customer service has been practically nil as I was expecting a refund and was told by phone that emails take 4-6 weeks to reply and if I wanted to wait to speak to Customer Relations it would be 4-7 hour HOLD time. Totally unacceptable for a large cruise line. The staff and food was very good.

Overall very clean and comfortable. Room was sufficient for the 2 of us.

Ship tip

DON'T sail on the Crown Princess.

Ports of call

Juneau, Alaska

Cruise line arrived in port late and cancelled our excursion. We got off the ship and found a shuttle to Mendenhall Glacier and paid on our own. Glacier was amazing just not enough time to enjoy. We had about 4 hours instead of the original 10 hours on shore.

Skagway, Alaska

This was one of the easiest excursions we encountered as we took the train. However, if we had known our other land stop was eliminated, we would have tried to do another excursion there.

Cruise Glacier Bay

5 out of 5
No excursion offered, but did enjoy the entire time cruising the glaciers and especially the Park Rangers that came on board to help with information.

Victoria, British Columbia

Time in this port was again not sufficient as we are handicapped and unable to get around as easily as some would have, so we took a bus tour around the city. Excursion was way overpriced. Would have like to had time to go to the Gardens.

What did you think they should of done for you? My wife and I celebrated our 10 years with Carnival and they gave us a half off card for a couples massage. I thought that was enough and wasn't even looking to get anything free. I feel like maybe cruising is no longer a thing for you as it seems like you don't like when everything doesn't go your way.

Pay to play. Seems standard. Thanks

We mentioned our 40th anniversary at some point before the start of the cruise on Royal Princess, they decorated our door with streamers and Happy Anniversary poster. I still have it somewhere. Next door stateroom had the same but for the 50th.

Sorry you were disappointed. The others have mentioned that some of expectations were unfounded, so sorry!

Princess has known this ship had propulsion issues since the start of the season. They never should have sailed until they got it repaired.

DebOTS is correct. The Celebration Packages can be purchased prior to boarding on their website. Unfortunate about your limited time in ports.

As an FYI to all cruisers….Cruiselines do nothing for Anniversaries unless you tell them, and even then it’s a small cake in the dining room with a bunch of waiters singing, and I’m not kidding… “ Happy Versary to you, Happy Versary to you”….. if you expect wine, decorations etc, somebody has to order and pay for them. The cruiseline doesn’t care you’re celebrating something, because more than half the passengers are. Sad but true. It’s all about $$$
