Review summary

We had a fantastic time and will definitely take another cruise. The demographic was quite old, but this wasn’t an issue. We are in our 50s and the average age was 67, apparently.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Straightforward, quick and easy. We were with friends who had a different boarding time to us but they let us on together.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We loved all the food! Our first meal was in the buffet and we were a bit put off by the plastic plates, but then we realised that some people took their plates out to the pool area and assumed that was the reason why. We tended to use the buffet for breakfast and the main dining rooms in the evening. We had Anytime Dining which suited us really well. The service and the food was excellent. Occasionally the service was a little too quick but not really an issue. There was always plenty of choice, it was difficult to decide! We ate at the speciality restaurants too, twice at the Crown Grill and one at Sabatini’s. The service was much more relaxed from a speed point of view and the food was delicious.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We did t really take part in the activities but there was plenty of choice.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Some of the shows were better than others but this wasn’t a big focus for us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Absolutely top notch. Couldn’t fault any of the staff or the service they provided. Everyone was so helpful, efficient and friendly.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We were often some of the last to leave the restaurants and the staff were very thorough in their cleaning. The ship seemed well designed though we have nothing to compare it with.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was adequate in size, although our friends had a mini suite and I think we would chose this next time as it was nice having the sofa and a bath as well as a shower. There was ample storage in our cabin and bathroom and the bed was very comfortable. We were pleased to have a balcony to sit on.

Ports of call

New York, New York

5 out of 5
We spent four night in New York before the cruise and we loved it. Lots to see and do.

Newport, Rhode Island

5 out of 5
Very pretty little town. We did part of the cliff walk, which was quite easy to find and visited Breakers. It’s a tender port and there was a delay getting back on the ship, with big queues but apparently this is not normal.

Boston, Massachusetts

5 out of 5
We took the shuttle in to Boston to explore. Had lobster in Dick’s Last Resort.

Bar Harbor, Maine Did not visit port

There was too much fog for the tenders to operate so we couldn’t go ashore. We were disappointed as we were looking forward to seeing Bar Harbor.

Saint John, New Brunswick

3 out of 5
Found it quite dull here. We walked up to the Reversing Falls but this was about the only thing to see.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
We did an excursion to Peggy’s Cove which was very picturesque. The coach trip there and back was also interesting and informative.

Sydney, Nova Scotia

4 out of 5
We weren’t expecting much here as we had been told that it was a very quiet little town, but we were surprised to find a car show going on, all along the main road.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

Quebec City, Quebec

5 out of 5
We stayed here for an extra two nights after the cruise finished. We loved it. There was a definite European feel to the place. We hired a car for the day and went to the Montmerency Falls and l’Ile d’Orleans which were worth a visit.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Amazingly efficient and organised. Couldn’t fault it.
