This is not a ship of Italian registry cruising from the US, this is an Italian ship with a lot of Italian and other European travelers. Suites are the best value because of add-on costs and they offer other valuable benefits.

Costa does not cater to American travelers. If you are unfamiliar with European customs and food, you might want to look elsewhere for a cruise. They just do things differently. We loved it but we also love Italy.

Don't expect your room to be cleaned twice a day and don't expect any of the wait staff to ask if you would like something to drink anywhere on deck including the buffet.

Be friendly to staff. A “hello, how are you today” goes a long way. These folks work so hard to give us a wonderful vacation. I was appalled to see so many guests being dismissive toward staff.
