Very disappointed over all. I had high hopes for delicious Italian meals on board, but unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. That's about a positive a statement I can give.
With exception for room stewards, ship Staff treats guests like they're a nuisance. Very discourteous and slow to react to customer basic needs. I sincerely hope that not all Costa ships are like this one, because if they are then it will be my last and will let everyone I know about it. I doubt Costa management cares at all what I or any of their passengers think.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
Difficult finding the correct pathway to board ship. Crew members directing passengers were not helpful at all.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Should be a one star. Only reason I gave it a 2 star was because some of the staff at least tried. The food and service on deck 9 was the worst experience our family has ever had on a cruise ship. No trays to carry food and you had to search for several minutes each time you ate for an open seating (table). Staff was of no help at all. Can't express enough how poor the staff attitudes were in the food areas, which minor exception for our evening dining service. Only place you could get eggs for breakfast was in the main dining room and they were watered down. Also, no coffee or tea in the dining room to enjoy with our dinner. Water was hard to come by anywhere on ship.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Dance activities and karaoke nights were fun. Bingo game administration was poor. Felt like I was dealing with a used car lot salesperson.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The stage performances were good, but well below other ships we've been on. Would like to see band performers in addition to dancers & singers.
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Our room steward was outstanding (5 star), but otherwise the staff treated us like we a nuisance, not a guest. Worst attitude by crew members, especially the food service personnel I've experienced and Costa is the 4th cruise line I've been on.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Very well laid out and well maintained throughout entire voyage.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Room was very simple, but well laid out and extremely well maintained. Only problem was that we never could get sound on any of the 3 Costa ship TV stations, despite notifying ship maintenance of our problem. They said it was a problem among many cabins and it was being worked on. They later left a message on our cabin phone to say it was fixed, but it wasn't.
Ship tip
Bring your own bottled water. Its hard to come by on the ship. Also, don't expect the dining experience you find on other cruise lines. Costa encourages you to spend more money in their exclusive dining areas to receive the best food. Save your money for the ports of call where the food is amazing.
A real hidden gem. I'd never thought of visiting Croatia before, but so glad we did. Beautiful scenery, people and history. Great shopping too. Amazing food! Too short of a stop to really experience the city.
These are typical complaints from Americans on this Italian line. Food and service experience will be different than what you would find on other lines catering to Americans. Research is the key to know what to expect. No fair going to Italy to tell them they don't make pizza correctly.
