COSTA CRUISE LINES LACK SERVICE & MANAG by ScottH8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

COSTA CRUISE LINES LACK SERVICE & MANAGEMENT BIG TIME! Service is easy... pissing people off by hiding is easier. Fixing a problem and management does not happen with Costa Cruise Lines. We sailed on the Costa Fortuna. The ship is just like that of many of the Carnival ships with an Italian theme. As a maitr'd and Westin hotel manager, it was obvious from the start that the service would not be exceptional as previous critics mentioned. This is a management that doesn't care and does not train or expect results from its staff. Besides no smiles and unfriendly with many new staff...Some examples... *matre in restaurant points and says your table is up there, 4 hostesses stand there no one takes us to find table, ** Waiter takes spoon off my table gives it to table beside ours, *** Wine assistant pours wine no tasting and fills 4 of 6 glasses. But the worst experience was when ****we took a shore excursion on a catamaran sail boat in Bahamas only to find a dive boat waiting. We told the tour guide from Costa we didn't want to go, he said its to late it's paid for, when back on the ship complained to tour desk said you took the boat. At front desk last day, asked to have the charges reduced only to be told to contact Costa customer service. When we asked for a manager we were told no one was available. After 30 minutes a Stewart showed up and in 10 minutes took us behind the front desk where 4 officers were seated at desks. They would not do Anything, so we drove to the Costa head office now very wanting to make a point that service matters, no one again would see us and no one answered the 1-800 number after 30 minutes. So we left a letter with the receptionist and now we wait????? So ***** stars for poor service and a management team that doesn't show up.

mixed feelings by AllaT

Everything on a ship was good, except our cabin and office handling the problem. Before booking the trip I made a call to "Costa Cruises" to be sure that our cabin has queen bed. We paid $50.00 for upgrading.... and on the ship we found out bunk beds. Manager was not present to talk about. I have called "Costa Cruises". They made me feel like I'm lying, and nothing was done. I haven't slept a night on the cruise.Bunk beds for romantic getaway? The whole experience was spoiled, plus we spent like three hours at the office. Drinks and excursion are to expensive.

Not too happy by Frank2

My overall impressions were good, they ran a good ship, buffet, dinners, cleanliness, and cruise director and his crew were terrific, the service desk help was not so good.

Good music, nice ambiance by PatriciaS17

For me, the ship was too big. It was well run, though the food was often cold, and the maitre d' was almost conspicuous by his absence - did not introduce himself to the table, and did not pick up on the lack of input from the assistant waiter

Great weather, Great Cruise by MatthewG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

An excellent and eligent ship with knowledgable crew and stopped at many beautiful ports. Even though excursions cost extra, they are well worth it and you can see many sights on the islands. The dinners were great at night. The last two dinners were fun as the staff danced and sang during dinner. The shows before dinner were also excellent and lived up to what we were expecting.

Costa Fortuna... by SharonB18

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Bermuda

The cabin steward was wonderful. The food was poor especially breakfast and lunch. I found glass on our outside deck x 3. Most of the staff did not speak or understand english well. While in port I observed a crew member being rude and ugly to four quests who had pacemakers and were trying to reboard.

Nice Ship but Poor Cruise by DavidB22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Ship gets top marks for ship quality, dining and food, and staff. Due to problem with air conditioning, stateroom not acceptable; entertainment and activities were not sufficient for a cruise that spends half of day time hours at sea.

This cruise was the worstest ever by TerrieD

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise was poor on all aspects. The food, the entertainment, the port of calls were not as expected. Too little time at the ports and alot of travel time. The adult area (swim pool & hot tub) was not enforced. There were kids in the hot tub when adults wanted to use it. Also babies around the pool area raising a fuss

We went for a cruise on the Costa Fortuna. This was our first cruise and everything was amazing. I would go back anytime. The food was great, but would like to see more seafood on the Buffet. The staff and entertainment was the best.

Skinnier than I left home.... by Dianal11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Ship was okay - room was the norm. Casino had a few 1 and 2 cent slot machines and seemed to be paying off for most people. Got sick on the morning of the third day due to food poisoning. No one else in my party got sick...just me. Stayed in cabin and one other room (can you guess which one?) for a few days. I did lose a few pounds on this trip! Food was very European (Italian) and was not very appealing to me. I liked some of the items on the dinner menu; but others, were not exactly something to write home about.

Average Cruise by LaurenF1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I just returned with a friend of mine after sailing the Western Carribean on the Costa Fortuna. The ship was very beautiful. The food was average. They did not have a huge selection or variety. The buffet was always the same and it seemed like many of the nights in our restaurant we were given the same choices. The staff also seemed to be less accomidating than staff has been on other ships that I have attended. At times, many of the staff were even rude to me. There were a few good shows - The circus show was my favorite. Toga night was very fun, although not as many people as I hoped participated. The "no sheet no eat" saying did not hold true. My favorite part was probably the pictures that were taken on formal nights - many of them came out beautifully. All in all, it was a very nice ship and I got to see beautiful places. Having been on many cruises before, I would probably not chose sailing with Costa again, but would recommend it to a friend who is looking for an Italian sailing experience.

A wonderful cruise by EllenM4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The staff and ship are very fun and European. We enjoyed meeting people from all over the world. The room was great and clean as well as the rest of the ship.THe food was plentiful but we expected more variety as it was an Italian ship and so much of a European adventure. It was good just more variety of food and better shows would have made the trip more outstanding. We had a great time, the staff was helpful and excursions were fun.

Not a very good cruise by DianeS30

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was beautifuly decorated but every thing stop there. Small stateroom very noisy, food without taste and whitout presentation and variety. When we are on sea it was very difficult to find a place on the deck with an empty chair. The time on shore was short. When we reserve you don't tell us we will get a very small stateroom with a single bed and a upper bed.

Overall a great experience by GuyL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall it was a great experience, This was a last minute vacation to get some rest and that's what we got with 2 days at sea. Things I would change and check: more time at ports and less days at sea. We chose an inside cabin, it was quiet and for the time we spent in the cabin, the right choice

Not again on Costa by JudyD6

It sounds like we were on the same cruise as Traveler from Western Ma. We agree with their entire review of the January '08 cruise. I don't think we will cruise Costa again.

A wonderful cruise by LiseF

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Fortuna / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We were on Costa Fortuna on January 13 for 7 days. We have really enjoyed the cruise. The crew is fantastic. We could get all the information needed. We also had service in french which we greatly appreciated. The shore excursions have been very interesting and the guides were great. The only thing we have complained about is the fact that there was a group of 1800 persons, all ages and the young adults (between 18 to 30 around) have been noisy late at night, in the cabin section. At 3h00 or 4h00, it is not interesting to hear them whistling, talking loud et even one guy fell down in front of our cabin et have been knocking to a few doors. We have been told that the group is cruising every year at this period of time. So the next time, we won't reserve the second or the third week of January. We will also inquire, before reserving, if there are big groups cruising on the week choosen. We will certainly recommend that Cruise Line. Thanks for everything. Lise Fontaine
