Since my last cruise on the Celebrity Century in 2010, And on 12 other cruises on many other cruise lines, Both the food and the service have fallen very short. The Main Dinning Room food was horrible, except for New year's Eve, which was very good. All other days either the food, Or the menu was not good at all. And on two nights we choose the buffet as I do not like all the specialty restaurants added to these ships as they are over rated and not worth the extra cost.
I have had better food on Royal Caribbean, Princess, Disney, and NCL cruise lines. On one night I received fish that was extremely smelly than any other fish I have eaten and after one bite sent it back. Many nights the menu in the MDR was unacceptable and even the food in the buffet was either very bland and at times or always had Curry added to everything or was Indian inspired which we hate. Also I booked this cruise for our "Honeymoon" and this Was noted in our booking as a Honeymoon. This was a first cruise for my new wife, and I had chosen Celebrity for the reputation of having excellent service and excellent food, and clean ships. This was not the case. My wife watched as other cabins were decorated for birthday's and Anniversaries.. and by the last day I was embarrassed at the fact that Celebrity did NOTHING for our Honeymoon! I finally went to Guest Services on the final day and asked them why we were were not acknowledged as a Honeymoon. And all they could say is we will send a bottle of wine to our cabin. But when it arrived, it said "Happy Anniversary" instead of "Honeymoon" which is Unacceptable! Also, the entertainment was severely lacking, almost no good entertainment or shows happened every night. Only one day of live music on by the pools, no good Acts, or shows at night, even on this "New Year's Cruise" is unacceptable. The cruise Director mostly appealed to Spanish speaking people and on new year's Eve only sung some songs in Spanish. I have had much better experiences on every other cruise that I've been on. This cruise on the Summit was a disappointment! Especially as a new year's & Honeymoon! I do not believe I would cruise again on Celebrity.

Ship was very clean and recently updated in 2019, but still showed it's 20yr old age

It was very clean, updated. Very comfy bed. Nice balcony.
It's funny. I got of the summit on the 14th. I did not experience ANYTHING like you say you did. It was my gf's first cruise and 3 days in, she loved it so much, we booked another one onboard
You have to tell them about special occassions. Most things you have to pay for, with few exceptions. Most people decorate their own doors. This sounds like it is all your fault
