Review summary

The cruise line you pick does make a huge difference. Our agent at cruise's only, who has booked our 2 other cruises, guided us to the Celebrity cruise line for our Alaskan cruise. He also made sure we got a room in the center of the ship since I get motion sickness very easily. We liked the fact that there were never any annoying announcements over the PA system. They also were not trying to push alcoholic drinks on us at every turn but were always there if we did want something from the bar. The staff was so friendly, slightly older then on other cruise ships, and obviously happy with their employer. The Alaskan cruise was spectacular and we even had decent weather with sunny days. I had trouble thinking of any negatives about this cruise, the ship or Celebrity. The excursions were great and we really liked the Icy Straight Point stop.

Ports of call

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

5 out of 5
We really liked this port. They only allow one cruise ship to dock at a time. You could really see the natural beauty of Alaska up close. This is the only place we chose to look for something to send to our grandchildren because a lot of the merchandise was made in Alaska. The people in Icy Point rely on tourists for their economy and went over and above to make us feel welcome.
Don't Miss: The Brown Bear Sightings excursion-the guide was great, a man with a big rifle was also there, they made sure we observed a lot of bears in the wild

Sitka, Alaska

5 out of 5
We went on the hike through the historic district, rainforest and raptor center. It was a sunny day and it felt good to take a long hike. Our tour guide was excellent and enthusiastic about Sitka.

Juneau, Alaska

3 out of 5
It was very crowded and touristy. There were 5 cruise ships in port on the day we were there. We liked our excursion to the Glacier which was beautiful but we felt it was a waste of time to go in the shops in Juneau.
Don't Miss: Medenhall Glacier raft trip

Pros: So much attention paid to little details by the staff

Cons: My husband observed a crew member using the bathroom and not washing his hands
