Review summary

COVID! I had been advised to stay off of cruise ships because they are a SUPER SPREADER for COVID. I wish we had taken that advice. We will never again take a cruise and subject ourselves to the diseases harbored and spread on cruise ships! We had 24 healthy people board the ship and at least half contracted COVID on the ship. From our small sample of 24 people you could estimate approximately 50% of the people on your ship were at least exposed to, or came home with, COVID. Celebrity needs to do a much better job of disease prevention!

Embarkation

A little unorganized.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Food was good, not great.

Onboard Activities

Pickleball

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Shows were pretty good.

Children's Programs

No children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff and service were great.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ships design was very good. But cleanliness was evidently not as good as it appeared to be because out of 24 people in our group at least half contracted Covid on the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Nice room and balcony.

Ship tip

I’d advise they NOT sail on Celebrity Solstice until a COMPLETE scrub down and disinfection procedure is completed and Celebrity start doing daily testing of ALL staff for Covid!

Train and return by bus. Beautiful scenery. However the bus we were assigned to had NO air conditioning and almost no ventilation. It was unbearably hot going to the train and even worse coming back. Temp inside the bus had to reach 100 degrees. The ventilation system blew HOT air making it even worse! Plus the bus driver was terribly slow and refused to pass even slow bike riders which added about a half hour to our return trip while suffering the 100 degree heat inside and the unventilated bus turned into a sweatbox! It was TERRIBLE! The company contracted to provide buss service should be fired and ALL bus companies required to provide fully functioning busses, with heat and air conditioning, for ALL future tours.

I've only had Covid once and it was likely from some point in my Solstice Alaska cruise. But, it's kinda like that's the risk you take in being around others doing anything. I sure hated those masks and really don't want to go back to them, but I firmly believe the person to person transmission rate is much lower when the other person is wearing a mask.

While we were traveling a couple weeks ago 3 of the 12 people we were traveling with got COVID. It is not just a cruise ship thing.

I hope everyone who got sick has fully recovered. Still, you were a part of a very large group - 24 people and probably spent a lot of time together after trains and buses. It takes only one person to pass COVID around, especially in a tight group. Stay well.

Appreciate your detailed feedback. Sorry half of your group became ill. However, it may not have been the ship. Your were on a train, bus and probably a few other places in a crowd. True, you may have been around the same people (or not) but the cruise lines cannot protect you from everyone. You are probably correct that cruising isn’t really ready for you yet. Glad you enjoyed your Alaskan adventure.
