Review summary

We chose this cruise because we wanted to visit this part of the world but we’re disappointed with the cruise line. We won’t be choosing celebrity again.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Long queues but didn’t take too long.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
We tried the MDR for the first 3 nights, one of which was Christmas night, and the food was terrible. The first night my partner ordered the sirloin, medium rare, and couldn’t even cut the meat it was so tough. After sending it back, the waiter brought a rib eye steak which was just about eatable. After 3 nights we used the buffet restaurant every day for all our meals which, to be honest wasn’t much better. The drink packages were extortionate. We bought a classic and a soft drinks one for 1044 USD after being hassled by waiters as soon as we boarded the ship. We cancelled the next day as there was no way we would spend over 1000 dollars in 12 days.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We didn’t do any of the activities.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The stage shows were okay, the performers did their best and some of them were good singers. A couple of the shows were very good - Danny Elliott, a fantastic musician and entertainer. The Other Guys, a Frankie Vali tribute group were also worth watching.

Children's Programs

We didn’t have any children with us

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Silvi our room steward was very good and kept our cabin spotless. The waiters were okay but we didn’t like the hard sell every time we ordered a drink.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was fine, clean and comfortable.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was a good size, clean and comfortable. The curtains had seen better days and could do with being replaced. The shower was one of the best ones we’ve had on a ship, always nice hot water with good pressure.

Ship tip

Don’t have too high expectations regarding meals and activities.

Ports of call

Sydney, Australia

5 out of 5
Sydney a fantastic city, we did the Harbour bridge climb, saw a show at the Opera House, visited the Police Museum and went up the Sydney tower. We loved it!

Picton, New Zealand

4 out of 5
We did the Harbour cruise trip. We’re supposed to go to a shopping outlet but because it was Boxing Day this was closed so we were taken to a park instead. There were some lovely flower beds here. Enjoyed our time in this port. We had a drink and had a look around the shops before getting the free bus back to the ship.

Wellington, New Zealand

5 out of 5
We went on a sight seeing tour to the Lord of the Rings museum.

Akaroa, New Zealand

5 out of 5
The Christchurch tour was excellent, we had a great driver who was really knowledgeable. The city is being rebuilt after the earthquake of 2011 and he was full of information about every aspect of the city.

Port Chalmers (Dunedin), New Zealand

4 out of 5
Did the sightseeing tour which we enjoyed. Lanarch castle was a lovely place and we had a really good guide who made the story of the house very interesting.

Cruise Dusky Sound

Cruise Doubtful Sound

Cruise Milford Sound

Melbourne, Australia

We are going in November. We already have plans to eat in the speciality restaurants six of the twelve nights. Sound like we made a smart choice. But I’m surprised that it was that bad. Sorry you had a bad experience. I hope ours is better.

Having been on P & O Britannia and Oriana and Fred Olsen Balmoral cruise ship, in our opinion, these were much better than celebrity. The main thing which spoilt it for us were the meals. The food just wasn’t to our liking, and I must say we are not difficult customers. There was hardly any entertainment during the day - we went to a couple of talks, the cinema and the glass blowing which was interesting. We also thought that there wasn’t enough information about what was going on around the ship. We did enjoy the ports of call and are happy that we did the trip but felt disappointed that we weren’t completely satisfied.
