Review summary

This cruise was a little disorganised to previous ones we have been on. The ship did look tired and there was something not quite right with the staffing on this cruise. BUT .... we enjoyed every minute of it. Would I do it again? Yes you bet I would! For all the faults, this was a fantastic holiday and we are rather loyal to Celebrity. A cruise is not just about the ship, but what you make it as well!

Embarkation

Heard horror stories re embarkation in Sydney but it was quick and painless.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Buffet seemed to have the same food most days. We sailed on the Equiniox earlier this year and the buffet seemed to have more variety. And, space to sit for breakfast was always a hit or miss affair. Same for lunch as well. MDR was great and loved the speciality restaurants, especially Tuscan Grille. Silkharvest let us down.. booked a set menu dinner and when doing so told them that I don't eat scallops so the crew member said that they would give me spring rolls instead. Second course turned up on the night, scallops! Told the waiter who then came back after 5 minutes and said they had no spring rolls. The manager then came and explained that they are made fresh and they had none, would I like vegetable tempura or chicken. Knowing that they supply a fantastic satay chicken, I opted for that. About 10 minutes later, out came my second course, Chicken Parmigiana! What annoyed me was the crew member who sold the package, definitely did write down the spring rolls.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We have travelled with Celebrity 5 times now and know they do not have a huge amount of activities, but this suits us fine. We make our own fun. Music trivia was good though if you can get a seat.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The gentleman who discussed forensic science was excellent. Was sad that we missed out on all of his shows as he advise his second last one would be at 11.30 on last sea day and we found out it was at 9am and missed it.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The staff seemed to be a little haphazard on this cruise, whether it was due to new staff or the fact that many had been on the cruise since at least Hawaii. Room steward was excellent... nothing was too hard for him and always smiling. Bar staff seemed to be a bit sparse in some areas and long waits for drinks. Also, items on menus were unavailable.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
As we have travelled several times with Celebrity it was disappointing to see on this cruise several maintenance issues - toilet cubicles out of order, no sanitising lotion in dispensers. No soap in soap dispensers, hand towels running out.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Absolutely love aft cabins. This one has one of the larger balconies on the rear for a Concierge Class room but normal size room. This is due to a cupboard outside the cabin. It is a good one panel of glass larger than the others. Did hear noise though from the people up at the Sunset Bar at night. We have stayed on the deck below and never heard this noise before. Maybe we had noisier guests!

Tip... toilets at port were locked and the toilets at the resort are for guests or those who are willing to pay $7 for an ice cream or $12 for a beer!

Disembarkation

Just as quick to come off the ship as to hop on. Made our 11am flight easily.

We got on as you got off and didn't have any issues as Captain Tasos got on and started in Sydney we were told. He was brilliant as were the staff. Couple of issues in the MDR for our table but nothing major and we weren't affected. We embarked really quickly and disembarked even quicker! Back home in Western Sydney by 10am.

It's very rare to hear about any complaints on Celebrity. But you're right. It can be a great cruise or disappointing, depending how to choose to make it. Love Celebrity

Very interesting what you said about the shirt is there has been silver reports over the last few months it is getting tired and the Crown the best so we are off on her in 3 days time from Sydney to Auckland so I hope it has all been sorted out but I rather doubt it
