Review summary

Overall I loved this cruise! The ports-of-call were beautiful and there was so much to do at each one. The ship was comfortable and also had lots to do every day of the trip. I highly recommend this cruise to anyone thinking of visiting Alaska. It is well worth it!

Embarkation

Embarkation was easy and smooth. Very short wait times and friendly staff.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Overall the food was good. I liked the wide variety of food at the buffet - LOTS of choices! It also seemed like food was available all the time, so you could pretty much eat when you wanted to.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Loved the Solarium and fitness center. I also took advantage of the outdoor jogging track, although my sport watch was all confused - it said I ran a mile in 3 minutes! It must have been tracking the ship and not me! LOL

Entertainment

4 out of 5
I attended several music shows, a comedy show, two nature talks, and a shopping presentation. The best were the comedy show and nature talks. Captain Tsasos was hilarious! And Brent Nixon is very animated and clearly knows his animals. Very informative!

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
My kids, ages 15, 13, and 12, spent a LOT of time at the teen club. They had so much fun!! The games and activities were appropriate and fun for them. They boys (13 and 12) also liked the arcade.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone was very courteous, kind, and accommodating. My family were well taken care of by all.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Solstice is a beautiful vessel! Very clean. Signage was easy to follow.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was very nice and comfortable. Our boys were in the room with us and one slept on the couch, the other on the trundle. Neither of them complained once, which is surprising! A mattress was brought in each night to go on top of the couch to make it more comfortable.

Ship tip

Get a drink package. My husband and I were just going to pay per drink, but after we embarked and talked to some of our cruise mates, we decided to get the premium package. SO GLAD we did. We saved a LOT of money. We thought the package only included alcohol, but it also included canned soda, juices, and bottled water (which we drank a lot of).

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

5 out of 5
I love Seattle. We spend a lot of time at the public market which is a do-not-miss! I recommend Beecher's if you like cheese. The flagship cheese is the best! Also don't miss the fish market and the throwing of the fish. Very entertaining and fun to watch! We didn't get to the Space Needle, but have been there before. Also a must-see.

Ketchikan, Alaska

This port was okay. We did a trolley tour which was good, and did several stops to look for wildlife. We didn't see anything. It was also pouring down rain so that didn't help. Before we got back on the ship we ate at the Arctic Bar, which was pretty good.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
Loved Juneau! We did a whale-watching tour which was excellent! Saw a group of 8 whales and several bald eagles. After that we went to the Alaskan Brewing company where we listened to a talk about the history of the brewery then got to try some of the beer.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
This was my favorite port of the three in Alaska! The views were spectacular! My daughter and I went on a Musher's Camp excursion which was so much fun! We were pulled along by a group of 16 dogs and then we got to hold and cuddle with the puppies. My husband and two sons went salmon fishing, which they all enjoyed very much. We ate at Tracy's King Crab Shack which I highly recommend. The king crab legs were the best I've ever had.

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
Wow. What a beautiful city!! We did not do any excursions, but just walked around the city and shopped. We ate at Irish Times pub which had great food, great service, and a comfortable atmosphere. Make sure you order the poutine!

Disembarkation

This could not have been easier. The process is streamlined and organized.
