Review summary

All cruise lines offer food, beverages, rooms and shore excursions.  The thing that differentiates cruise lines is the service.  The service that we received from everyone we encountered on the Solstice was exemplary!

The Alaskan scenery was gorgeous and we had a blast on our shore excursions.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food in the main dining room was very good as were the servers. Our only disappointment was that crab wasn't ever offered in the main dining room. It was a separate purchase during lunch time. We didn't enjoy the Oceanview Cafe as much, but mainly due to the crowds and the seeming lack of variety - there were lots of options, but they seemed to be the same every day - after a few days it was pretty boring. The desserts, while beautiful, weren't always yummy. The puddings, custards and ice creams were far better than the cakes. The cookies in the gelato bar were delish! The breads were fantastic, though!

Onboard Activities

Top Chef at Sea was fun. Captain Taso's daily messages were funny.

Entertainment

The production shows were meh. We enjoyed the Beatles cover Hard Days Night, but mostly the entertainment left a lot to be desired.

Service and Staff

The staff was awesome. We loved Yudah in the Passport Bar!! He was so friendly and kind!! Our room steward Adi was great. Our dining room waitstaff - Mardita, Suryati, Abilash and Estrella were all great as was our cocktail server, Albert!

Cabin / Stateroom

Very roomy. We had space for everything. Adi kept our cabin very tidy and quickly accommodated our request for additional pillows and blankets for the bed. The robes in the room were tiny (almost child-sized!) - we couldn't use them which was a bit of a bummer. It was a lovely cabin. We loved the balcony!

Ship tip

We were opposed to the drink packages at first (super hard sell the first day), but ended up buying a soda package for our teen and a classic package to go along with the premium non-alcohol package I'd bought prior. We felt like we got our monies worth out of all of them, but really worked at it.

We didn't due a ship excursion, but lucked into an evening tour in front of the Empress Hotel. It was great and a lot less money.
