Review summary

Enjoyed the ports of calls very much. Ship experience not as remarkable as our last cruise. Not sure I'd book this line again - definitely not this ship.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Embarkation through the Osanbashi terminal was managed chaos with poor communication. Once in the right queue, things went OK.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was solidly mediocre. Most foods were bland or under seasoned. Most of the deserts were passable, but not exceptional. We had much better food on land. Excellent land food was a stark contrast to the ship's fare.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I really liked that the fitness center was open 24 hours day.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We attended the entertainment venues. The rock violinist Kate was very good, but the other singers were marginal, off pitch or just too loud. The acoustic guitarist was very good.

Children's Programs

No children on trip with us

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Overall, the ship lacked communication. Obvious delayed maintenance on parts of the ship. Hotel and wait service was great, but the last three days all of the crew were reminding us to give them good evaluations for their bonuses. Ship's captain's accent was very pronounced and made his announcements hard to understand. Most of the general staff seemed to be working at just passable levels - providing good - but not excellent service. Found it odd that the Senior officers of the ship would loiter about in the lido buffet late-night like an "after party" gathering instead of being at work.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
I found the layout a little less relaxing than I wanted. Main traffic flowed through the bars and casinos. The little out of the way places to sit and relax were fitted around a loud three-deck atrium. The solarium pool was nice and pleasant. It was a bit sad that the ship didn't have a full promenade deck, so you couldn't walk around from port to starboard - either aft or forward. If you wanted to go from starboard to port you had to re-enter the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Like all ship cabins small, efficient, and clean. Shower had an very tight design, but did the job. I liked the veranda sliding door, but it was worn and would jump the bottom track, making the door hard to shut.
