Review summary

We did have a good time. It was a nice cruise and we plan to sail again with Celebrity soon. Unfortunately, we always have these high hopes when trying a new cruise line that it will be our new favorite and it is always a little disappointing. So far, Princess is still our favorite. Not that they are way better than Celebrity but better in more ways than not, so if the price was similar, I would choose Princess. But we are always open to going on any ship and cruise line.

Embarkation

Stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton in Dania Beach the night before for $113 through Hotwire. They said they have a "Free Shuttle" that goes to the airport and also goes to the port. They don't tell you it costs $15 for the port until you arrive. Take an Uber for $10 and you don't have to go to the airport and waste 30 minutes. Port check in time was 11am. Arrived about on time. The metal detector line was about 20 minutes then on the ship in another 10 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We last sailed on Celebrity almost 20 years ago and recall the food being excellent. Now, not so great. Better than RC but maybe not as good as Carnival. Breakfast buffet was uninspiring but that is normal on most ships. Lunch was often hard to find something appetizing. They had a lot of vegetarian/vegan food, lots of cabbage dishes, etc. Pizza was really good but often they didn't have any peperoni out yet. Steak (minute steak) at lunch only happened once. Dinner buffet was pretty small and again, not much that would excite me. A lot of casserole looking dishes. What was great was they had "stations" for various things. In the morning was an Eggs Benidict station where they made 4 different kinds. Lunch and dinner had a pasta station where you pick the ingredients and they put it together for you. Dinner also had a stir fry station. Once there was even a Cannoli station at dinner desert. They occasionally would have something great like fish & chips but overall, if it wasn't for the stations, and the ice cream bar, the buffet would be a big bust. Food temp was almost always cold, even from the made to order Eggs Benedict station. Lido grill was just hamburgers, hot dogs, and fries. They were decent. They had a food station in the Solarium that served cold "healthy foods" for a very limited time at breakfast and lunch. It was a waste of space. Who wants chilled toast for breakfast? I never saw anyone eating the breakfast foods and only a couple times eating the lunch salad. MDR was fine. Not a lot of choices that excited me to order or that wowed me when I ate it. Luckily, they had a NY "Strip" sirloin steak on the nightly classic menu. I ate a lot of those. On the 2nd formal night they have lobster on the menu with this note below it that says "Additional charge of $16.99 + 18% gratuity for lobster" then in small letters "for additional order" or something like that. It was made to look like the lobster was extra but I think it was only extra if you ordered 2 or more. The waiter didn't explain. My wife said she doesn't care if it costs and ordered it but there was no charge on our account so must be free. Very sneaky Celebrity! We liked the food but nothing special really so have low expectations and it will be fine.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Not much Lido activity but that was fine with me. They had the typical Trivia and other games. At 10pm one night they had a comedian up in the Sky lounge. Since that was the only entertainment then, everyone wanted to go into that small space and it was standing room only. To his credit, the CD apologized for thinking only a few people would want to see the show and moved it to the main theater. It took a little time to move everyone but worked out. The outdoor movie screen is way on the top deck at the back of the ship. It had nice couches to sit on and was very quiet.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The 1st production show with dancers was not till the 4th or 5th night. Small cast of singers and dancers but they were good. I don't remember any particular shows or entertainers so nothing too memorable. They sometimes had live music around 6pm at the table area behind the buffet on the back deck. That was nice to listen to music and watch the sunset.

Children's Programs

Only 20 kids on the whole ship. One baby got lots of attention.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward and MDR servers did a good job. It seemed like the crew was happy and hard working. Customer service desk is staffed with young adults who seem very clueless. I thought I should have an onboard credit and asked a lady at the desk. She "searched" on her computer while I waited in front of her for over 15 minutes then said she didn't see any credit on my account. Duh! that's why I was asking her. Pretty sure she was just checking her emails that whole time. She transferred me to a young man who said the same thing but only took 10 minutes to not see the credit. He said he would call headquarters to check and call my room but of course, never did.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This is an older, smaller ship but probably one of the nicest ships I have been on. It was really well taken care of. We loved the free adults only pool. There are four jacuzzies and they were popular. Best chance to get in was morning and after 5pm. Pools were nicely heated.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Inside cabin was pretty roomy. The cabin decor was amazing, bed firm but comfortable, and bathroom had a glass shower door. The fridge was loaded with liquor. I told the steward we don't want it but he didn't remove it so there wasn't much room in there for much. Got towel animals daily. Got chocolates on pillow every night! Kudos to Celebrity for keeping that tradition going!

Ship tip

If you haven't sailed with Celebrity in a while, don't expect the food to be great.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We had an 11:30 flight and an 8:30 disembarkation time. They put us in the theator to wait till we get a text telling us to go. We got a text but the crew member told us to wait because the text notifications were wrong and our luggage wasn't ready. People were leaving anyway so we did too and just got in the long line to get off. Our luggage was ready. Out by about 9 am. So if you don't listen to the staff, it will go smooth. Took taxi van to airport. He charged us $25 for both. Not sure what he charged the other 6 people in the van.
