Overall we had a great time, and really enjoyed the ports. We have cruised in the Caribbean many times, so this was very different and new to us. We would definitely cruise Alaska again in the future.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We took the early train over from Anchorage to Seward and arrived about 11:00. We did not have to wait at all to check in and the train had our bags sent directly over to the ship, so it was all very easy.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The main dining room was good and we tried the Tuscan grill which was also good. I thought the buffet could have offered a little more variety.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
It was rather chilly out so no one really used the outside pool area, a few people did sit on the chairs with blankets. We were off the boat more than some other cruises so we did not participate in as many activities, but it seemed there were less than I recall on other cruises. Some days the TV did not get any channels either, so later at night could not really watch it.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
I thought a lot of the entertainment was geared towards a senior crowd, but I did like a couple of the shows, especially the comedian.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Everyone on the ship was friendly and did a good job.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship was clean and nice, but not as fancy as some, which was ok with us.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The room was good, but we did have a concierge level room and I didn't really think it was much different than a regular balcony room, just a few extra perks that I really could have done without. The balcony rooms on level 9 have a roof extension over them from the floor above and you can't really take pictures very easy without getting that or the bars supporting it in the picture.
Liked the port. Did a whale watching excursion, hiked through rain forest to glacier. It was a great excursion and the guide, Sama, was very friendly knowledgeable.
This was one of my favorite ports. We did a bus excursion up to a summit and also saw the sled dogs and puppies. Very nice views on the bus trip. I liked the small town to shop around in and we had lunch at the Red Onion, which was a brothel in the day. There were many bathrooms you could use, which is sometimes not the case.
We did not do an excursion here, just visited the cannery and shops. We then walked the road to Hoonah, but there was nothing really there to see or do. It was a fairly nice day, so the walk was nice.
We did the Ducks excursion here and that was fun, not too long, but learned about the town. There was lots of shopping and restaurants. We had lunch at a restaurant, The Crab Cracker Seafood Bar, and my husband said the crab was delicious. At most ports there were lots of sales being the end of the cruising season, so if you like to shop that was nice.
Vancouver is a big city and we are from a smaller town, so we were a little out of our comfort zone. We did not take an excursion, but we did visit Stanley Park and took a carriage ride which was very nice.
Disembarking went pretty much on schedule. One of our suitcases came back with one of the wheels broke off and a big crack in the side, so I wasn't happy about that. We have to wait about an hour to get a cab to our hotel as there was a very long line of people waiting for cabs.
