Review summary

This was a great itinerary to explore the Eastern Med. Get off the ship in each and every port even if you do not have an excursion. We were especially happy we chose the sailing that featured an overnight in Istanbul - one day is not enough and we would have loved one more.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We got caught up in the taxi strike in Athens, which made getting to the ship a major challenge. Once at the dock, the Celebrity team was very efficient and ensured we were comfortable awaiting access to the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We ate breakfast at the buffet and dinner in the main dining room. When we had lunch, we grabbed a burger or hot dog at the pool grill.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The pool, hot tub, and solarium were fine. Did not participate in other onboard activities.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Stage shows, the comedian, and two special performers (Jacob Tasker and a women who sang and played piano) were very good. The Other Guys and the magician were marginal. Music in the lounges was too heavy on disco.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Service was close to excellent. Our only complaint was that dinner service was slow on the last few days of the cruise.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was immaculate. Some TLC is needed in some areas - for example, we noticed rust here and there.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Comfortable and always clean. A good amount of storage space.

Ship tip

Choose this ship if you are looking to relax.

Ports of call

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

4 out of 5

Nafplion (Nauplion), Greece

3 out of 5
We did not do an excursion. There is a pretty square, but otherwise not much to see in the port.

Istanbul, Turkey

5 out of 5
A beautiful, interesting city. However, be careful choosing an excursion. A significant amount of walking and standing is required. Breaks were minimal. Most people on our excursion noted that it should have been labeled "strenuous" not "moderate."

Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey

5 out of 5
Another beautiful port. Definitely recommend taking a tour to experience the Ephesus UNESCO site. It's amazing.

Santorini, Greece

5 out of 5
We took the wine tasting excursion, which was a good choice. Got to see quite a bit of the island with minimal hiking up and down. Fortunately, there were only two ships in port, so we had about a 30-minute wait to board the cable car.

Rhodes, Greece

5 out of 5
The old town is right off the port, so we explored on our own. Good shopping and reasonable prices compared with other ports.

Mykonos, Greece

4 out of 5
Fun excursion wine tasting and gyros. The main section of town is a ways from the port so we did not explore.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and painless. We had an 11:35 a.m. flight and used the Celebrity shuttle. We hadplenty of time to catch our flight, but my caveat is we have American Airlines priority, so check in was quick.

Appreciate your detailed review…. oh those pesky European strikes. Sounds like a wonderful cruise in spite of the taxi drivers 😉
