Review summary

Love this transatlantic we booked one on the Edge next year!!

Embarkation

Terrible! We wait 1 1/2 hour for a wheel chair. We get trough check-in normal time. But then we are put on the second floor “waiting for a Celebrity employee to wheel up the ramp”.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Great as usual!

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
There was very little activity for a handicapped person or non-pool sun worshiper.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Better than usual. The stage shows were decent entertainment. The four stars are for the ship’s singers and bands especially those in the rendezvous!

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Very attentive.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Yes!

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Very uncomfortable size for an accessible room. It was not much bigger than regular balcony. There were no automatic doors including the whole ship. No room storage (could not even slide suitcases under bed). Although close to elevators, very quiet. Our steward was very good!

Ship tip

Go to Rendezvous before dinner. Enjoy the music and enjoy a glass of wine.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

1 out of 5
The port was very mismanaged. We had to wait in Miami for scuttle to Ft. Lauderdale. When we finally made it to Ft Lauderdale Port, it took hours to get on board.

Funchal, Madeira

4 out of 5
Jewel of an island! We, although seniors with mobility problems, took the safari excursion and had a blast! (I’m talking 4-wheel drive off roading.). Madeira produces bananas, grapes (great wine), and cherries. Trees were in full bloom and gorgeous.

Lisbon, Portugal

Port was fine, but excursion was terrible. On the very bottom of our list of excursions. It was very unorganized. We honestly thought we were going from one side of town to the other and back. Hilda kept telling which way to go and he seemed confused with her directions. “Over there is the coach museum, very nice. Now out left window is a structure that looks like a boat (never could see it) with famous people climbing up to top. This is April 25th bridge we are going over. Now we are going to the Christ The King statue. You have 15 minutes to go to bathroom (only bathroom break we had) and there is a small cafe you can buy a drink and souvenir store. (By the time we waited in line for bathroom and to buy some water, time was up.) Now we are going back to town. (Over the April 25th bridge and ‘boat’ statue, again.). See the lift out the right window and the funicular to go up hill? No. See the castle looking tower out in the water? Over there is a fort. See that building? It is a knowledge place. That building is sports arena. Out right window is aqueduct. There is the cemetery where only notable people can be buried. There is Belem. Can you guess where that name came from? It is an UNESCO site. (I’m needing to go to bathroom really bad.). Notice all the different colored buildings? And cobblestone narrow streets. (By this time I’m having bladder pain! I guess Hilda saw the tears in my eyes) We will have a unscheduled bathroom stop. But be back on the bus in 5 minutes. (Some got off bus to souvenir shop and did not get back in 5 minutes.). Well, I’ve waited 15 minutes so let’s go on. (Think she left three people). (When we got sight of ship, some got off to walk rest of way. If I could have walked that far, I would have done the same.) VERY BAD EXPERIENCE!

Cadiz (Seville), Spain

4 out of 5
Our excursion to Cadiz was nice. The best stop was Fundador Brandy de Jerez. Toured and learned how the sherry and brandy are made. Had my first taste of sherry (loved the sweet. Not so much for the dry.). Brandy too strong for my palate.

Malaga, Spain

We just got off ship and scooted around by ourselves. It is a long way from ship to town. Nice lighthouse. Stopped and had some tapas and wine.

Alicante, Spain

Had a wonderful excursion with Roberto (five stars go to him!). He was very attentive to everyone. City of light it is! It was a large metro with all that encompasses. Noticed several vacant lots and shady looking areas. I loved the palm tree lined streets, though. We then drove to Elche to an absolutely beautiful town that we both said we will return to visit! It is full of history, a lot of Valencia, Muslim, Christian influence. The Palm Groves is a not to miss place. A lot of the area are municipal areas free to all. First was a visit to the garden area called Pigeon Tower. An actual home for pigeons! We then drove to the Santa Maria Basilica and walked around the plaza. Had bathroom break and snacks, ie. espresso. It was Sunday and the church bells sounded! WOW. We left and went to Garden Huerta del Cura. It is in the urban area of Elche full of date palms, bamboo, cacti. The ‘Imperial Palm’ is majestic. The pools are so serene I could have set on a bench and enjoy all day. Having extra time, Roberto took us to a little ‘pub’ for wine and plates of the most delicious cheese I’ve ever had. Can’t believe I didn’t get its name! Bull fighting is still a ‘sport’ and pub had a huge stuffed black bull and pictures of matadors and picadors on walls. Then loaded bus back to Alicante. What an awesome final excursion before we sail to disembark in Barcelona.

Barcelona, Spain

Disembarked after 14 days of transatlantic cruise. Visited Sagrada Familia again and it is still as gaudy as five years ago!

Disembarkation

Terrible! Had to wait over three hours for bus. The driver had gone to airport instead of port.
