Review summary

Great friends, great cruise. I'd do the Eastern side next time, though, as I heard that the stops are better. If you can afford it, minimum Aqua Class.

Embarkation

Only glitch. We had sky suites, and they tried to jam us all into one little room prior to embarkation.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Luminae was the best. Our waiter Nino was SO much fun and attentive.

Craft Social

5 out of 5

Great place to have a quiet pre-dinner drink.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
This was a 'girls' cruise, so we didn't do anything out of the ordinary, except shop and trivia. Would like to have done a few other things, but bedtime surpassed anything after the shows.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Not the best. I've been on other cruises which had exceptional performers. This is a subjective topic.

Children's Programs

Didn't have kids with us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our butler Anand was the best. He prepared our birthday party (two rooms worth), decorated and delivered food and wine. Breakfast was served on the patio each day on time and hot. Arvin, our room steward, was always prepared and as soon as we were out of the room, he was in and cleaned. Very happy. As mentioned above, our main room server Nino was terrific as was Carlington.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Constantly saw people cleaning. We were very careful about cleaning our hands, etc., and it was a constant relief seeing employees cleaning common handrails.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Perfect for the two of us. As I mentioned above, it was a girls cruise so having enough space for clothes for two women was a joy. We were constantly looking for clothes, etc., that we had unpacked, and there were ALWAYS empty drawers. That MAY sound like a negative, but for women, it is a positive. Room to bring more! Arvin kept our room spotless and we never needed to ask for anything.

Ship tip

Just DO it. I suppose I would add that if you want a bit more seclusion, the Sky Suites afford you the ability to eat at the same table every night. That was something we booked purposely, as we could be as silly as we wanted.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida Did not visit port

Flew in, and jumped on the ship.

Key West, Florida

We signed up for a snorkel excursion, but were told as we arrived that the storm the day before probably churned up the waters, so most likely would not have a clear view. We were offered a refund which we took. (Thank you.) Then rented a golf cart and drove around the city. That was fun; however, there was no parking pretty much everywhere, so ended up dumping the cart back to the owner, and walked. Ended up at Hogs Breath Saloon, and had a marvelous time. Was able to text home, and they were able to see us on the web cam. FUN!

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Did not do an excursion. Walked around the shops. If you like people enticing you into their shops, this is the place to go. Felt VERY sorry for the dolphins. Small, dirty pool.

Cozumel, Mexico

Once again, similar shops. Buy, buy, buy. We did the Salsa, Salsa, Salsa excursion. The retreat looked as if you could spend some time there. Seemed very clean and very friendly. We learned how to make 3 different types of salsa with Lalo, He was fun, personable and informative. After the salsa making class, he taught us how to Salsa Dance. Great fun, and after that we ate what we made. Highly recommend!!!

George Town, Grand Cayman

We did the dolphin push/pull and Stingray excursion. The dolphins were amazing, although I must admit that I have mixed feelings about their being held captive. Well organized. The next part was traveling to a sand bar where we were able to touch Stingrays. The water was amazing, and being able to touch these creatures and see them up close was an adventure.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Since we had booked Sky Suites, we were able to 'cut the line' of the people waiting to disembark. Had some ugly looks, but, hey, you get what you pay for. Except for the stupid person who got off the ship and left her suitcases on board, and the panic that caused, it was quick and easy.

We had a sky suite in September and couldn’t agree more about Nino and Carlington. So helpful and thoughtful. Love the Equinox
