Review summary

This was an excellent cruise - everything I had hoped it would be. I have to say, though, that a big factor in our experience was the weather. It couldn’t have been more perfect! Cool mornings, sunny and warm days. The only day there was even a hint of rain was our one at-sea day, and even that day was mainly pleasant. Sweaters and jackets went largely unused.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Since we were late arriving, our embarkation went quickly and smoothly. We even made it in time to get signed off on the muster drill.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Most of our dining was in the main dining room, where the food was excellent and the service very very good. We didn’t eat in any of the specialty restaurants, although we did use room service for 2 breakfasts.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I used the fitness Center once, and it was fine, although limiting time on the treadmills to 20 minutes is hardly satisfactory for an aged walker like myself.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great shows, and great variety!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Both in the dining room and in our stateroom we were looked after well. Nice to be coddled for a change.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
All was clean, although in places a little worn. Nothing to complain about.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had an inside stateroom and it served us well. Lots of storage and enough room to get around. Since we were out virtually every day and evening, the inside location was fine. The only thing I missed was checking the weather in the morning. However, since every day was similar -sunny and warm - that didn’t matter too much.

Ship tip

Areas for quiet contemplation or quiet reading are hard to find.

Ports of call

Venice, Italy

Just one day in a fascinating, but very crowded city. Be prepared for lots of walking.

Split, Croatia

5 out of 5
Great old world charm. Again, a place to walk around, enjoy the atmosphere and food.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

5 out of 5
Fascinating city. More walking, people watching and eating.

Kotor, Montenegro

5 out of 5
Wonderful arrival and sail away. (be on deck!) very much old-world charming.

Corfu, Greece

5 out of 5
Get out of the city and see the countryside. Lots to see.

Valletta, Malta

3 out of 5
Unfortunately we were part of a very large group with a knowledgeable and professional guide who hurried us through most of the locations and behaved as though he were leading a group of 10. (By the time we caught up with him he was halfway through his talk.)

Messina, Sicily

5 out of 5
We spent most of our time in Taormina, and we did so on our own. We thoroughly enjoyed a more relaxed visit to this picturesque and historical town.

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
This was the real highlight for us as we had a small group tour along the Amalfi Coast and through the site of Pompeii. Fantastic! We didn’t visit Naples at all.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

2 out of 5
Just a place to exit the ship and take the train to Rome where we spent 3 nights in a B&B.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We waited until the last minute, found our luggage with no problem, and were soon on our way to Rome. I would have liked a second cup of coffee, but the wait staff were pretty anxious to get us out of the dining room so they could get ready for the next batch of cruisers,
