Graduation trip from my parents by JoleenC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was very nice with the exception of the food. The food could have been better as far as quality. Breakfast was the best part of the food choices. The deli section was second best as well as pizza. My father and I had the seafood that you have to pay extra for and that was also good. The dining room food was awful, the butter was spoiled and my mother's chicken was like rubber.

On another note the cruise director and staff were great. The entertainment was also good.

This Fun Ship is just OK, the staff needs re-training to learn better customer service by shayvaughan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The pool deck is nice & very entertaining. The rest of the ship has really low ceilings which makes the ship feel dated.

The dining room staff need re-training. It took forever for dinner. Our assigned table was between 2 work stations & when we asked to be moved, we were told we would have to make that request every night. After making a fuss on day 3, we were moved to a very nice table which was designated for anytime dining. The specialty restaurant Fahrenheit is over-rated. The food was mediocre & had limitations re: how many you could get. The desserts were also mediocre. The cabin steward was OK but, I had to request that our linen be changed. The cruise director, Matt, put the FUN in FUN ship. He would be the only reason to try Carnival. Otherwise, I'll stick to RCCL.

My experience by ValerieHerrera

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I have been on many cruises with Carnival, Norwegian & Royal. This was a new ship so my expectations were a little high. For starters, the elevators need to be worked on. Too much congestion was a nuisance. The two restaurants that were available for 2 hours only was not good. The Mongolian & pasta they need to extend the hours on that.  I found that this ship had too many lines for just about everything. The hub app was a plus I did like that & how the photos are set up to purchase was a plus also. The phones to call a room were not working when I tried them. Comparing this ship to other carnival ships this ship needs to be worked on. Not sure if its who is managing this ship needs more training but I know that this fleet has been around too long for what I experience on the vista. When leaving to an island if you missed out on the announcement there was no one else to inform you & or a sign to go by, &  I am a cruiser so I  sort of knew were to go to disembark but what happens to the first time cruisers. I was a little disappointed I felt for a new ship it should have been a lot better. The pizza spot always had a huge line, the burger joint just as well. Everything was a line. I have to say the cruise director Matt was amazing. I also want to commend Isaias from the blue Iguana for always greeting me with a smile as they should he was amazing with his drinks & a pleasure to go to. My room steward Adi was also great. Very attentive to any thing I may have needed. He was fantastic. I also want to commend Joseph from the Havana bar for always staying on top of cleaning men that guy works. I told him to take a break. Great guy. I was disappointed we didn't make curacao so that just damper my spirits even more & I was ready to go back home right after.

8 Day Southern Caribbean by angelacolarusso

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Carnival's newest ship Vista was a bit disappointing with the lay out of this vessel; it felt too closed in and not an open concept like that of their other ships.  The crew was exceptional and the ports were beautiful however I wish that they spent some time coordinating entertainment.  The entertainment area's were uncomfortable and very small to accommodate the guests attending.

Cruising with Family by ksgoins

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Being with my family and enjoying the fun.   The ship was beautiful and the food was great.  Better food than Royal Caribbean.   The cruise director was awesome.   He was so active and fun.   The ship was clean and the staff was friendly.  The captain was not personable.

Cancelled port, small theater and long lines. by jpyoung13

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I would not recommend this cruise. While it's the largest ship in the fleet a lot of the common areas are the same or smaller than any other carnival ship. But with about 2000 more people. So this of course equals longer lines for the same services. While the staff was friendly as always they seemed to be over burden and there for less accommodating. Had terrible seaday brunches all 4 days. Dinner was par for the course. Nothing about thus cruise would want me to book it again or recommend it.

Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

big and beautiful ship, disappointed we didn't get to Curaçao , water to rough to dock, Food was delicious. ! service was excellent .disapointed  they did away with the aft pool being just for adults, it was very crowded!! With kids. the buffet was arranged beautiful much more room for seating than other Carnival ships. Wasn't thrilled with the ships interior other than the beautiful changing color glass globes around the bar areas. loved the idea of our two bathrooms in our cabin, awesome idea! All in all we had a great time..Happy

Mixed Reviews by ereed9462526

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We returned to Carnival this trip because of the new itinerary after a bad experience years ago. The crew was very engaging and friendly. The housekeepers did a great job of keeping the ship clean throughout the week.  Good entertainment and activities.

The Vista leaves a lot to be desired in terms of design both visually and tangibly.  The atrium lacked in glitz or grandeur.  The "dining any time" requires passengers to stand on long lines on one deck near the photo section to be given a ticket to another deck and location.  There are no amenities offered as on NCL.  So we paid daily and dearly for drinks, excursions, tips, gratuities, taxes, enhanced dining experiences etc.  Fahrenheit 555 was a good choice for a special meal, but JiJi was not there for us. Lastly, we selected our room because we have liked AFT cabins where the balconies are large enough for full chaise lounges.  Yes, we had a large  balcony, but only chairs, while Havana one deck below had it all including access to a private pool

GREAT STAFF MEDIOCRE SHOWS by apaul9602

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Absolutely love the staff on this cruise ship.  They all make it a point to know your name and what your likes are.  This is the 3rd time we have sailed with Matt Mitcham the Cruise Director, he is phenomenal.  Entertainment has definitely declined. Only one show was really good which was the Rock n Roll show. The juggler didn't make it and they really didn't have any other great shows offered, they could really improve on the shows.  Mostly bingo was pushed for entertainment and you have to pay extra for that.  That was the complaint from alot of people we heard from on the ship is that everything costs extra now on the ship.  They have alot of meetings about what is going on but again, they push these like the spa but is way overpriced or the jewelry.  We did visit the spa and was for the first time disappointed.  We had to wait for almost an hour for a couples massage only to be told we would be separated because they didn't have a room.  No discount was offered.

Noticed they really didn't have any great daily band you could go listen to, we loved the band on the Breeze. That was another disappointment.  Food was almost exactly the same like the last cruise. The only negative was the Italian restaurant. First time ever we had poor service and it wasn't just one person but basically that entire staff in the restaurant.  Can't say enough positive about our dining room staff in the Horizon Restaurant.  Our 3 waiters, Ramil, Alexis and Proud were top notch and would definitely recommend their table to anyone.  Grand Turk we had been to before so just enjoyed the beach and Margaritaville.  Due to weather, we did not get off at Curacao which was disappointing but understandable.  Ended up by the overcrowded pool then just spent the rest of the time in the bar. Wish we would have moved onto Aruba to have extra time there.

Loved Aruba but wish we could have stayed longer on the island. After the excursion there just is not enough time to venture anywhere else. Would like to see us a full day and a half in Aruba.

I do want to make a comment about Embarkation and Disembarking.  Loved the way it was done.  Was able to get on the ship quick, from the time We walked in the door and was to our room was maybe 30 minutes.  Best one ever!  Did the self disembark and it went pretty smooth other than waiting for elevator, but no complaint.  Still only like 30 to 40 minutes to get off ship.  Great!

Still love to cruise though, not every cruise will be perfect.  Would still go on the Carnival. I know alot of people were disappointed in the same things so maybe if enough people make suggestions it will change back to the way we know Carnival can be.

Best cruise for kids by Cosmokaren

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The  Cruise director was wonderful his name was Matt I loved him the comedians where ok we saw 2 went to 2 shows the lip sink contest was hilarious . The Game show was just OK . The Camp Carnival was great my grandson loved it.

Now the negative stuff the Food was aweful dining rooms where not good I couldn't get healthy anything ! I wanted plan string beans because they had greasey bacon on it couldn't get it. I finely got wise and had double deader w dressing on side every night and what ever veggie I could get plain and backed potato and just smushed what ever sauce was on my main course. The buffet was not good either I had to wait on line every day to get a plain sandwich w no cheese or gobs of mayo on it. The only meal I enjoyed was breakfast.  I would not recommend this ship unless you have kids! I will not be going again.

Decent food, good service, not enough activities by qbui98

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Western

the Lido restaurant has a variety of good food and desert only during lunch with limited selections for dinner.  The water park was great but there was no pool reserved for kids.  Both pools were filled with all adults with drinks in their hands that kids have no place to play.  It didn't seem like a place for kids to be around.  Harbor family lounge and the play room on the top deck next to the miniature golf were messy and dirty without supervision during night.  Video games in Harbor family lounge were down and out of services almost every night.  One of the TV room

should be converted to a kid game room.  Soft serve yogurt tastes bland and icy.  Ice scream at Sweet spot doesn't have enough ice team makers for the whole ship.  Bed sheets, comforters, and pillow cases were so scratchy with lot of cotton peels that made my kids feel so itchy.  The crew however were really good with room cleaning but should dust the tables better.  There were lots of dirt bunnies flying around.  I wished there were more activities for kids for this big of the ship.  The menu at Horizon Restaurant was almost the same every night.  Breakfast was the same every morning.  Drink selections were very limited. Sodas were always flat and were served from the opened can.  With the price that we paid for the sodas,  they should serve with a whole can.  Mixed drinks were so disgustingly sweet.  Floors were slippery even when it was not raining.

There were a few shows such as lip sing competition,Dr Seuss were good.  Averall it was good but things mentioned above should be improved

disappointing by dre714

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I had read negative reviews about the Vista and unfortunately they were correct.

The food was terrible. Meats served on the buffet and in the dining room were awful quality. We paid for the restaurant dining the evenings we could get in and they were all well worth the money.

The BBQ and seafood was good but the lines were always long. Lines were also long for mexican food, pizza, and burgers. Not worth the wait. I think that is what

Carnival wants- they tout that there is pizza 24 hrs a day but they make 3 at a time and people can get as many as they want so you wait and wait. I think Carnival wants people to give up on the wait and leave.

The Liquid Lounge is a joke! Chairs pushed around- could hardly get through to get a place to sit for BINGO when we did there was soda spilled all over the floor so we had to find another place to sit. Who ever thought that kind of set up was a good idea has no clue about laying out a room.  The lines were long to get in here too- we never did go to a show because of the venue and long lines we knew we would encounter.

I have never cruised and had to wait in line to see the comedian. The lines were horrible to get in to the comedian. We went one time- not worth the wait. As if cruising isn't enough of a cattle call getting on and disembarking you make your guests go through the same lines and hassle to get into something that is supposed to be relaxing and part of the experience.

Before we left I looked and looked to see how many formal nights there would be and if there were any special nights for attire- white night etc..I could not find anything. We even called Carnival and asked- they didn't know. Get on the ship and guess what- there is white night!! who knew!! what a joke! Which pretty much sums up Carnival- a joke!

Carnival is losing ground when it comes to pleasing the customer or care whether the passengers have a good time.

Many staff seemed miserable. Matt droned on and on the last day at sea and it was blasted into the pool area- not sure what that was all about but it sucked the fun right out of the short time I had on deck to enjoy the sunshine and music.

I am pretty sure my cruising days are over. Too much money to spend half my vacation in line for food that is hardly human grade and to wait for entertainment that is supposed to be fun. Carnival has managed to take all the fun out of cruising.

Carnival is not what it used to be. by palladium10722

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Nothing was very favorite about the this cruse. The cabin service was terrible. They didn't clean it for three mornings in a row. Didn't have any soap at the sink for several days. Complained and they gave us a couple of free drinks.

The food was not as good as it was in the past on Carnival. The make huge cutbacks on the quantity and quality of the food. Never charged before for lobster and filet now they do.

The buffet was very limited with only three main dishes available and it seemed like the same food every day presented in a different way.

No midnight buffet, not captains party.

It seemed all they wanted was to nickel and dime you for everything on the ship.

The ports were ok and the entertainment was pretty good.

Other then that I don't think I would cruise with them again even I think that I will  up grated from gold status to the next level with this cruise.as I strongly believe their quality of service has gone down and profit seems to be the bottom line.

New Ship New Adventures by embkej

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Overall the cruise was delightful.  We couldn't have asked for better waiting staff, dining room food was excellent and the ship was spotlessly clean.

We didn't like one of the evening performers act.  The Juggler.  He had been a clown in an earlier job.  Would have been a better act if he had dressed as a juggling clown.  The 12 dancers were excellent dancers and singers.  We also enjoyed the three violinists.  They were excellent as well as the brass band and singers.

The main negative, to us, was the size of the ship and the starkness of the ship architecture.  It doesn't have the glitz like the other ships, which I enjoy.

As the ship holds 4000 guests, the chairs on the Lido deck fills up fast with people laying towers on the chairs.  Much of the time the chairs don't have guests sitting or lying in them but have been reserved for some other time of day.  Very annoying to us. Same does for the Liquid Lounge, the main auditorium on the ship.  We believe the architecture was very stark, the seating didn't seem adequate with many of the seats didn't allow good views of the stage.

In summary, we had a great time and enjoyed the ports visited but will probably return to cruising smaller ships on Carnival.  One final comment, Matt the Cruise Director was GREAT!

Cruise to South Carrib. by hardcast38

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Marco, our Room steward was more than great, very helpful, competent and engaging. He made our trip more enjoyable.

In the restaurant, we greatly enjoyed being at table 386 three time with Roman(sp?) and his 2 assistants. He also made the evening meals great.

The calendar of events and performances (loved the Piano Bar with Ben) were complete and quite good

Of course, Matt our cruise Director was fabulous. You are lucky to have hime for sure.

Very disappointed by nwalling

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Vista / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I have been on several cruise ships and the Vista does not match up to some of the others. The entertainment was very poor, not enough going on at night. The bars were not open most of the evenings. The dining situation was poor as well, too many restaurants you had to pay extra for, after all the money I had already paid. I found a bug in my salad in the captain's restaurant of all places, and all they did was take it away. Very disappointed in this cruise.
