First Time was a blast by dolphins4mekw

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Valor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Good First Cruise, for a honeymoon. Many people who have cruised before were unhappy or unimpressed. We enjoyed our time and it was well worth the money. Small things can be picked at but overall truly enjoyed and were ready to book our next cruise. This time a longer one on another carnival ship. You should take this one, I think you will truly have a blast.

Room: 6429 - Overall my... by TXCruisers18

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Valor

Room: 6429 - Overall my wife and I were disappointed with our first Carnival cruise. Boarding: Extremely efficient and smooth. Showed up on time for our time slot and was on the ship no more than 15 minuets later. Ship: Very nice and clean for an older ship. However, the vibration from the engines is very noticeable, especially in the Washington dinning room. We’ve been on other ships where the vibration wasn’t as noticeable. Cabin: (One of the main reason for the three stars.) The room itself was nice and spacious enough; but the cool air was non existent. After waking up the first night drenched in sweat we asked for it to be checked. When returning to our room later in the day we found a card informing us the temperature met Carnival’s standards. Carnival’s standards must be extremely low because after the first night we slept on top of the covers and still woke up drenched in sweat. We kept the curtains to the balcony closed at all times to help keep the room at a bearable temperature. Staff: Our room steward was very nice and attentive and the cruise director, TJ, was awesome. But that’s where the compliments for the staff end. The remaining staff gave the impression that they were there to do a job and didn’t want to be bothered. One of the best parts of a cruise for us is talking to the staff about where they are from and getting to know them. There were other passengers that expressed dissatisfaction about the staff as well, especially the bar staff. Food: The food was very good. We will admit, other cruise lines could learn a thing or two from Carnival’s food choices and buffet layout. The only downside to the food, the odd and short hours that some food items were opened. Entertainment: There was always something fun to do. Shops: The shops were okay. Once you saw the merchandise, that’s really it. We were disappointed with the sales took place. Bars: We have never been on a cruise ship with so many bars that were closed for most of the day or closed as early. I know that everyone’s experience on a cruise, even the same cruise, will be different. The statements above reflect mine and my wife’s experience on the Valor. Would we take another Carnival cruise, absolutely. A cruise is a cruise and we still had fun and got to see places we have never been to. We were just not satisfied with our experience on the Valor.

It was a good first... by sstorms

Ship: Carnival Valor

It was a good first cruise, even though it considered a smaller and older ship it was still plenty to do! I did not like being at the back of the ship, the long walk was annoying sometimes.

Good cruise by mstravel302

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Valor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Having been on a lot of cruises, I can see where Carnival has changed, and some not for the best, they don't give perks like they did to returning guests, the ship was kept clean, they did not offer a lot of merchandise to buy in the stores, liquor sales in the store was not great, It seem as if the stores was not stock and well as they did once upon a time,

The Cruise Director TJ was great. Being an Iraq War veteran, I really liked the theme of the ship. I saw staff politely enforcing the age limits in the adult areas, a real plus.

Disappointing Cruise by ekfraz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Valor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I an disabled and use a scooter most of the time on the ship due to having Multiple Sclerosis, They refused to let me do the behind the scene ship tour because I was on a scooter, I can walk, climb and get around but cannot run. I know what I can do but they judged me and even cancelled a shore excursion .

The Cruise was a great... by Diamante1

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Valor

The Cruise was a great time! However the food in the Washington fine Dining was terrible. The chocolate cake I ordered had a big piece of paper melted inside of it. I enjoyed the dining experience nevertheless sitting with friends and family. The food on the Liddo deck was very good. The rooms were nice and clean. Most of the staff on this cruise were unfriendly/rude in comparison to our last carnival cruise. The Muster safety drill was terrible is was so hot and a few ladies around were going to pass out and the staff wouldn’t let the ladies move to the front row. They were going to make them stand in the Special Needs area instead of just being more accommodating and moving them in front of people where they could breath a little better. I still enjoyed the cruise very much but was just taken aback by the staff.

We had a wonderful time... by thebre

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Valor

We had a wonderful time on the Valor. Our wait staff, Sonny and Gunawan were awesome as well the cruise director, TJ. The shows were a lot of fun as well as the adult activities planned in the evenings. I loved my cabin but the staff cleaning it did not do a good job. We were given towels and sheets with hair on it from other guests. We found a bag in the corner of the room and sunscreen under the bed. I had a brown spot under my comforter. Everything was amazing except the cleanliness of my cabin. Oh, and we were accused of drinking the water for purchase.

A Beautiful and Relaxing Cruise to Cozumel and Progreso---Dolphin Excursion! by DaveNAlison

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Valor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We finally turned VIFP Gold on this Carnival Cruise to Cozumel and Progreso. We were excited to get our Gold Card as we made our way through the embarkation process. It turned out that Carnival now delivers your sail and sign card to you in your stateroom mailbox outside the room. As such, we arrived, cleared security, and were immediately waved onto the Carnival Valor. We stopped in the Atrium for a mojito, and then had lunch on the Lido deck. Our cabin was ready before the 1:30 time we had been expecting. After getting settled, we lounged in a hot tub on Lido until the Muster drill. It was a super embarkation because it was calm and relxing. Our cabin steward, I Made, greeted us with a warm smile. If you get a good steward, it makes the cruise all the more enjoyable, and I Made was perfect for us. He kept our ice bucket filled and dry towels coming throughout the cruise. The dining was phenomenal. We dined in the Steakhouse the first night and received a complimentary bottle of Chardonnay. The lamb chop were succulent and everything was served cooked to perfection. The following nights in the Lincoln Dining room were nearly as good. The American Table menu has nearly reached perfection with mouth-watering steaks, delicious pasta, flavorful seafood, and well-prepared side dishes. We tried Your Time Dining for the first time this cruise and liked it much better than Assigned Time. We were able to plan dinner around the various shows and comedians that formed a part of the evening's entertainment. Swimming with the Dolphins at Dolphinaris was without exception the highlight of the cruise. The venue was quiet and easily accessible. The pictures were a bit too expensive for us. Be prepared to spend at least $100 if you want any pictures of you with the dolphins (no photos allowed). We were also able to see two mother dolphins with their babies. They are endearing creatures with human-like personalities. We spent most of our free time enjoying the hot tubs on the Serenity deck. DW got a massage and I got a haircut. We gambled a very little bit in the casino, and I did win $86.00 on one machine. However, I would describe the slots as relatively tight, not loose. I did not get the Cheers package, but I wish that I had. We ended up spending quite a bit on drinks, and Cheers would have given us more value with less worry about prices. Overall, this was a textbook cruise with calm seas, wonderful service, and good times. I highly recommend the Carnival Valor to all cruisers, as well as the Dolphinaris excursion through Carnival.

Time for a change of cruise line. by danisbox

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Valor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Couldve been so much better. I was completely disappointed in the Valor. In comparison to Carnivals other ships, the Valor was definitely a 3rd rate ship, with a first class price. The room that we stayed in was so large, the shower was cold and the temperature in the room was hot and the comfort of that room was terrible. I am a large woman and was sorely disappointed when there was under size chairs in the room for sitting and NO couch. Not happy at all about not having a suitable place to come and rest. The room was certainly large enough for a couch. I think it is time for us to use another cruise line for our yearly cruise. We became complacent in Carnivals cruise lines and our expectations were completely dashed with this cruise on the Valor.
