Review summary

We've done several Carnival Cruises. The ship was nice/par. We liked the stops at Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk because the beaches were right where you get off the ship/tender. No need for a taxi and everyone could go back to the ship if they had enough of the beach or sun. As I noted above, I wish they had a water park/slides like the Splendor ship for the younger swimmers.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was good. As on any cruise, you never go hungry or have a time you can't get something to eat! Buffet a breakfast and lunch. We did the sit down dinner each evening. My kids love the cold strawberry soup and the chocolate melting cake!

Entertainment

Children's Programs

Our 6 year old went to the Camp Carnival at different times during the days at sea and loved it. Fun activities. Our teens enjoyed the O2 club and activities. We enjoyed the shows and casio!

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The service was par for a (Carnival) cruise. Staff was friendly and fun. We didn't need any special services.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship itself was clean and in good condition. However, when we got to our rooms, there were some items left behind and in one of our rooms the refrigerator was not cleaned out and restocked.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a balcony room and 3 other rooms with windows. The handicap room was great for our parents (seniors) and had lots of room in the bathroom for them. All were in good condtion.

Ports of call

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

5 out of 5
Whitest softest sand ever and not hot to walk on. The water was like bath water. They have a great little splash park on the beach with slides for little ones. Calm beach for all ages to enjoy! The BBQ buffet was OK, but don't wait until late in the stop as they started closing down the soda/iced tea services. They also had volleyball for the teens.
Don't Miss: The Beach!!

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
Unlike Half Moon Cay, you didn't have to take a ferry in to shore. Just walk right off the ship! The beach was nice but a bit coral/rocky on the bottom. A bit cooler water than Half Moon Cay but still warm and great for ages 0-80+! Margaritaville is right there to if you prefer the pool. However, the staff was VERY slow! Only one person in front of us at the bar and it took 30 minutes to order a bucket of beer and 15 minutes more to actually get it and pay for it.
Don't Miss: We didn't do a tour. Just stayed at the beach and pool. They had fun music and dancing and contests at Margaritaville.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

It was a nice port. We went to the Castle/Fort. Didn't do a excursion. Just took the free trolly which takes you all around town and to the fort. The fort was reasonably priced. $3 for Adults and under 15 yrs free. Since it was a scorcher hot day, we were a bit unsure about going to the fort but the island breeze kept us cool there!
Don't Miss: The fort is amazing to see. Great for history buffs!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
We always love to shop in St. Thomas. This time I did the BOSS Adventure with my son (the rest of the family did it last time.) It's a bit pricey, but a great way to see the fish if you don't like to snorkel! Good for all ages (over 10yrs) and they even catered to non-swimmers!
Don't Miss: The BOSS Adventure!

Pros: The beach at Half Moon Cay was the best - softest sand! My daughter got it right as she described it as 'pancake batter' in the water on your feet! My 6 year old loved the pool slide!

Cons: The Valor didn't have a good pool for my 6 year old. Baby pool 1 ft deep or regular pools 4' 6" too deep for a young swimmer.
