Review summary

This is my 3rd cruise and probably my least favorite.

I still had a wonderful time, hence the title of my review.

However, the ship was different than I'm used to. I was disappointed that my other family had refrigerators and I didn't. They also had more

shelving. I was room 6202 (balcony/port side). The staff was great. The times in port seemed very short. The 2 days at sea both ways was a bit much for my personal preference.

A LOT of food should never be confused with good food. There was a lot of food but it was meh, in the lido deck buffets. I enjoyed the omelette station, sans lines and constant running out of spinach lol

I had brunch in the sunrise dining area on the last sea day. I should have gone there everyday.

While everyone racked up tabs of tantalizing and fruity libations, I should have had flier points or something for the shakes. Oh my God, the milk shakes were so good (roughly, $5 a pop). Guy's burgers were great. Fries werent, so much. The pizza was pizza. I looked forward to the formal dining and seeing what the new choices were.

I remember cruising carnival and the room service was always included and it also included the signature melting lava cake. I was disappointed that the choices weren't that great and that they also added a page that costs additionally. Is that just Carnival Sunshine? Or ALL of the ships, now?

Discovered the Taste Bar 1/2 way into the cruise. One of those days, they were a 1/2 late opening up.

Couple comedians that were funny. Enjoyed the karaoke, although the machine broke down a coupe times. The Serenity deck wasn't that serene and people even brought their children up there, when it's reserved for 21+. The small pool was over crowded, and standing room only. Better, for late night dips when people were at dinner or other shows.

never went up on the higher decks, but I hear they were ok. I also didn't go to the gym or spa. My other friends/fam did.

I, enjoyed the formal night dining room dancing. I enjoyed the Blue Cantina. I also REALLY enjoyed the Motown party and the 80's party. The cruise director, Emma, was super awesome at her job!

We stayed in 6202 last year. The cabin is great. Your friends probably had a different room category.

I believe one can enjoy themselves and yet have a few complaints.

gellmore    8 years ago

About what you expected and you are complaining???? That doesn't compute!!!

First cruise with Carnival. About what I expected. Pools were horrible.. The adult one, people were just standing shoulder to shoulder . Entertainment was good, but a little short. My biggest complaint, when I go to a lounger by the pool, I like to relax and read. Why in the world would they play bingo by the pool??? It was really annoying . Comedy clubs were funny. Staff was great.

And she was saying the Chocolate Melting Cake for room service but that someone said was never available on the room service menu. They do have a delicious chocolate cake you can get from room service though.

Yes we will have to get up early and do breakfast in the dining room on port days too because the Lido Buffet breakfast is disgusting.

Thanks, I'm definitely going every day! 😁

Usually early like 7-9 but totally worth it!!

Cruisegal79 what time is breakfast in mdr on port days? I always go to sea day brunch but didn't haven't ever been on port days to the breakfast and I want to in November.

Also for future reference, ALWAYS go to the MDR for breakfast! Any day.. We discovered this about cruise #8 LOL. It is always sooooo good!

Agreed that you HAVE to speak up if you see kids up there! Say something or tell a stuff member, that's annoying! I've cruised Carnival since 1998 and the melting cake wasn't on there ever from my recollection which could be wrong..

Pre cruise research would have enlightened you on some of your points!!

Your review is a little confusing. You didn't like 2 sea days to get to the Bahamas, but did you sail out of NY? They can't help that you chose a port that is far away from the Caribbean to sail out of. It takes 2 days to get there. The Lido buffet food is meh on all ships. We eat Sea Day Brunch in the MDR because it's delicious and they have the best mac n cheese. The room service menu changed fleet wide on Carnival a while ago. The sandwiches, salads, and cakes are free and there is a page of items that cost up to $6. Still a good deal for 24 hour room service even though we don't really order it. As far as the Serenity Deck goes, I have no problem telling people it's an Adults Only area and that they need to get their kids out of there. We don't have kids and that's the whole point of the Serenity Adults Only Retreat. I like to relax in the pool with my drink and not be splashed by obnoxious children. The Sunshine is the 5th largest boat in Carnival's fleet and it's unlike any other ships they have right now. Sounds like you still had a nice time.
