Great cruise! Fun and sun! by thekoz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Fantastic time. Cozumel, Belize, Mahogany Bay, Grand Cayman were excellent!

Food was absolutely amazing at all the dinners! Spa Balcony room was great, as the access to all the Spa amenities made for a relaxing time when needed. The Aromatherapy pool was excellent! All the sauna options were very nice. Fitness center met all needs. Overall a very fun cruise!

Lots of selling, some fake ports, but overall good cruise. by jambolito

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Fake art auction, "shopping experts" that only recommend partner brands like Diamonds International and Effy... Costa Maya isnt a real place - the town of Mahahual is, and cruise ships just built a port there. Don't bother leaving their artificial port town they created.

Excursions are often over priced and include stops at tourist traps like rum shops.

Service on the ship was fantastic, loved our wait staff at dinner and our cabin steward.

Splendor time by dollyharrison

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean

This is a nice ship, looks like pink iced donuts in a lot of places. The Spectactular  Shows were not.  They  were ok but I kept expecting it to get better.  Its Comedy shows were good. Its one of those ships that you have to go up or down to get to restaurants.

Best time on a cruise yet! by shcmaan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean

Hands down best cruise! The workers actually made sure us guest were happy and taken good care of. The food was great! I like how there was some new food items that I have never tried before, like frog legs. The only thing that I feel like there could have been more of is activity space for something like dodgeball.

The McDonalds of Cruise Lines by ron444

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean

The best part was the sit down dinners each night.  The food was very nicely prepared and presented and the flavors were excellent.

Buffets less so.  Little variation from day to day and food was not very tasty.  Lines were long and sometimes had to go through two or three lines to build a meal.  One for salads, another for breads or pastries and a third for entries.

Did not go ashore at Belize due to potential rough seas at tender transfers.  other two were just shopping tourist traps.  No look at any "normal" shopping, business, or residential areas.  Could get no flavor of the communities without buying an over priced excursion.

Drinks (liquor) on board were way over priced.  About $6 for a bottle of beer and most hard liquor drinks were in the $10 range.

Room Service had a very limited menu.  None of the dining room menus were available from room service.

Splendor did not meet expectations by nikkiand3cs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean

While I loved the ports that we visited, the ship itself did not not meet my expectations. The deck that I was on smelled like sewage constantly. I was also on the deck below the lobby, so I would constantly hear loud music and singing while me and my 7 year old were trying to sleep.  My stateroom was not cleaned during the time frame that I picked on day 1 of the cruise. The food was ok at best. The dining room had wait times of about an hour 3 of the nights that I went there to eat. I made a complaint to guest services about t-shirts that were missing from my room and they blew me off. I was told no investigation would be done over a few shirts and that none of their people would take some shirts. I was very dissatisfied with this cruise in comparison to the one I had taken prior on a Carnival ship.

I love cruising by alishalynn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean

The boat was big and beautiful. I loved all of the amenities that were available. This was my second cruise with carnival and I enjoyed the food more on this ship then I did on the last one. I will continue to travel with carnival, I loved everything about the western Caribbean stops. We had a beautiful and wonderful vacation.

Oppressive selling on ship by mickydee55

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I encountered oppressive up selling on board the ship. Initially on the first day, was pushed by the spa to buy admission to facilities. Ok, so I decided to buy one because we wanted to use the steam room, saunas, thermal bath and scrub room. Got charged twice for the service and the facility was either not working (the steam-room) or the sauna was not hot enough. The scrub room was always full. Bought a beverage package for unlimited bubbles which I thought would include bottled water and it did not (waste of money). Paid for all my excursion on-line prior to leaving but got charged for one twice. Casino staff was rude and the cashier (a young Asian girl) was extremely rude and gave me the wrong change then began to insult me when I pointed out her mistake until I stated, "Are you going to give me my requested change or are you just going to be rude." In the piano bar they had a mucisian named Jonathan or john as he was called who could not play a song through completion and then was rude to the patrons who pointed out his limited song  ability. Also the wait staff there was almost invisible. Much money wasted on services that did not meet expectations or you could not use. Usually sail on Celebrity but thought I would try Carnival out but never again. Best part of the cruise was the food.

Great Cruise for the price! by JLWFlorida

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was the second time I have been on this ship and itinerary.  The cabins are clean and a good size, service and entertainment good and the price tends to be the lowest among other cruise line pricing.

From Miami to Cozumel, Belize , roatan, & grand cayman by vpease

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My favorite part was the dance routines.

I ordered juice, water, coke & malibu rum for room. I only used 1 of the water packs- very disappointed when I called to see if you would credit me.  I was told to take or leave it in room. I had to leave it, since my luggage was overweight. I believe since it was an unopened 12 pack you should have credited my acct. booking # 1vm7j5 - stateroom 8228. Vpease

Love the Ports of Call - ship not so much by Rysa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I love the Ports of Call but the overall ship was very disappointing. The decoration of the ship was my least favorite of any ship I have ever been on. Additionally, the food was average and there were always lines. I have traveled on several Carnival Cruises as well as other cruise lines and was surprised at the lack of cleanliness and service that was provided on this ship. This was my fiance's first cruise so I was excited to see how he would react but the service and lines were so bad that sometimes there was no way to enjoy our time. The worst thing was that we upgraded to the spa balcony package and the steam rooms and showers only worked during part of the cruise. I am not sure if I will travel with Carnival again. It is very disappointing considering I chose Carnival cruise Lines for my fiance's first cruise. In the end, the ports of call made it all worth it! We had a blast - although they did cancel two of them and change the time on a third. We just had to make the most of it and enjoy!

Honeymoon by Cruiser1872058

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean

Our favorite part of the cruise was how relaxing it was, service and staff were polite and very attentive. We loved that once our waiters knew our name they always addressed us if they have known us forever. We enjoyed the entertainment on the cruise, there was always something to do. Food was great. Loved that one of the pools were only for adults.

nice by reginajones

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Nice, The food was hotter than usual, the staff is not a friendly, it like pull teeth of for them to speak with a smile, My state room person was good.  I was shock to see that al Hot Food for room services cost.  That not fair so every time, I want something hot, I had to go upstairs, because, I did not want to pay, I think you should all some no cost hot food back on your room services menu.  Please add more channels to your TV satiation, without a cost for it please .

I had higher expectations by tarynrivera

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I had been looking forward to this cruise for 9 months. When we finally set sail I realized this cruise was not what I had expected. There were so many people on this cruise, and I know that it had a lot to do with traveling during Thanksgiving. However, I have been on large cruises before but have not experienced what we did on the Carnival Splendor. I think the staff on the cruise could do a better job at monitoring the lines formed for food. The guests were all over the place and people would crowd the hallway in the dining area, making it difficult to cross.  We chose anytime dining this time around. There was one night when the line went as far as the elevators in the middle of the lobby. We also had a night when they gave out pagers to wait for a table. The quality of the food and the staff was hit or miss.  A couple nights we had a very unfriendly waiter and the food was not very good (undercooked desserts, overcooked meats, etc.). A few of the nights we had fantastic service and food. Our stateroom was not very clean.  We did receive fresh towels and our bathroom was cleaned everyday, beds were turned down every night. However, the room hasn't been deeply cleaned in a long time.  The headboard had dust on it.  The fridge hidden inside the cabinet had a thick layer of dust at the top. The carpet felt dirty and needs to be steam cleaned.  The first day we were in our stateroom, I saw a glob of used toothpaste still in our sink from the previous guest.  We loved the ports that we visited and will definitely be going again in the future. However, with the bad experience we had on the Carnival Splendor we don't think that the Carnival cruise line will be a top pick the next time we choose a vacation.
