Review summary

We had a fabulous time on our first Alaskan cruise! The weather was unbelievable! Not a drop of rain and sunny blue skies except for 1/2 of one day and the next morning when the fog rolled in. The ship was great. Andy is probably my favorite Cruise Director. The spa was wonderful. The food was very good and the crew worked hard. This won’t be my last Alaskan cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Overall I thought the food was great. Marsala Tiger was wonderful as well as the steakhouse, deli, and Guy’s burgers (not as good as fries this time). I thought the food in the dining room was good as well as lido buffet. Sea day brunch is always great too.

Deli

Very good made to order sandwiches with sides of potato salad, chips, and salted chocolate ship cookies.

Mongolian Wok

Ate here twice for lunch for the first time. It was very good and worth the wait (about 25 minutes). Had beef the first time and shrimp the second time with the Thai BBQ sauce that had the perfect amount of heat.

The Pinnacle Steakhouse

4 out of 5

The food was great. My sister and I both had surf and turf. The service wasn’t the greatest but not awful either.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The weather was so nice, warm, and sunny (to Alaska) we loved the Serenity deck and outdoor walking track. My sister loved her spa treatments. We enjoyed the spa amenities four times throughout the week while having a spa room. I liked the Splendor’s spa way better than on the Mardi Gras. Wish I would have done the waterslides.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
I enjoyed all the shows I went to. Deal or No Deal is fun as well as the Love and Marriage show. The piano bar was lively. The live music/bands were great. I never made it to the comedy shows except for CD, Andy’s, which was very good. Andy is probably my favorite CD I’ve had.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Nearly all staff was excellent, very nice, and work so hard.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was very clean and I knew ahead of time of all the pink and gold. You actually get used to it quite quickly. It was fun being on an older ship again.

Cabin / Stateroom

I wasn’t sure what I’d think going back in to an interior room after spending 2 weeks in a balcony room during my last B2B but it was not an issue at all! My sister and I loved the spa room and we were only in the room to sleep and shower. I’d do it again if that meant being on another cruise. The room was clean and comfortable for the two of us.

Ship tip

Enjoy your time. Decks 5 and 9 (maybe others I’m not sure) go straight through the whole length of the ship.

Ports of call

Ketchikan, Alaska

Sunny and 75 degrees. We walked around town and then went to the Artic Bar to meet with the owner whom my sister has a connection to. It was a great busy bar right on the water close to the shops.

Seattle, Washington

It was a beautiful sunny day in Seattle. We drove up the night before and stayed with family and got dropped up right by the ship the next morning.

Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska

Absolutely breathtaking! Photos don’t do it justice. We hung out at Serenity in sunny blue skies and enjoyed the scenery surrounding us. Next time, I’d consider taking the excursion that everyone raves about.

Victoria, British Columbia

We knew we probably wouldn’t get off the ship since the time is so short. I heard people complaining about the short time. Don’t you realize that when you booked the cruise?!? I’ve been to Victoria before and it’s beautiful.

Juneau, Alaska

Another sunny day provided for great shopping in Juneau.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

We enjoyed this port. We walked around and took the free tram. Cruise Director, Andy’s, polar plunge was fun to watch. Wish I would have done it too!

Disembarkation

Very quick and smooth. They announced around 9:00 am for the rest of us to get off the ship.
