Review summary

This is the last Carnival cruise we will take. Too much noise, not the relaxing trip we appreciate on other cruise lines. We were with a group of friends who chose this ship and itinerary, so had no choice in the matter.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We were able to board early with carry on luggage with a limited wait inside the terminal.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Buffets offered varied selections- VERY good Indian cuisine at the Tandoor for lunch, large selection of salads, entrees and desserts. We did not dine in the dining room or specialty restaurants on this trip.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Fitness center was excellent- clean, large selection of modern equipment, qualified instructors for various complimentary classes like Morning Stretch & ABS. Showroom productions were too loud with annoying strobe lights. Comedy club "Punchliner" offered PG & R rated performances- arrive early to find a seat for offensive, crude humor. Music venues at the atrium & Lido were too loud. Casino area was filled with smoke which carried into non-smoking areas. Pools were filled with children.

Entertainment

see above

Carnival Seaside Theater

3 out of 5

good popcorn took to our cabin- sound poor.

Children's Programs

No children in our family

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Room Steward, Anthony was excellent. Other ship personnel would greet you only if you greeted them first. The Lido staff was stretched thin so could not clear tables as they should have during busy dining periods. Guest Services staff was gracious and attentive.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Layout and design ok. Ample paper products in the common area restrooms & cabin. There needs to be more hand sanitizers available and someone reinforcing the need to use them! They also need to be refilled- one morning 2 out of 3 on the Lido were empty at breakfast time. I notified a crew member and he told me to just try another.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
All was very good with the exception of a VERY soft mattress and TV remote controls which had to be exchanged twice. The steward put a board under the mattress which helped some.

Ship tip

Bring ear plugs and expect LOTS of young families with children.

Ports of call

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Tourist trap. NO.

Mazatlan, Mexico

4 out of 5
Beauiful city. We did the Vallarta Expedition's zip lining excursion. Scenic shuttle ride into the countryside. Very nice meal of authentic Mexican specialties included. Terrific guides, limited English spoken.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

4 out of 5
Yes lots of things to do here. We did the Las Caletas beach getaway excursion. Boat ride to the beach with several water sports available- some extra charge. Clean restrooms. Beautiful location with delicious, ample buffet lunch included. Catamaran crew put on a fun show on the return to the dock. Expensive - especially for families with children.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
We were not in a hurry as we had to wait for a shuttle van, so not a long wait later in the morning. Not sure how earlier guests' experieinces were.

You sound like you were against going out on a carnival ship from the start ! So you looked for reasons to complain . Next time take a cruise for the newly wed. And the nearly dead ! We just had our 70th cruise with carnival and they are always great , especially the splendor , it is our favorite . Sad to see it leaving to Singapore then on to Australia .

My sister and I were on that cruise and we found it very relaxing. The adult only pool at the aft and the serenity area very relaxing. It was also the smoothest cruise I've been on, none to very little rocking of the ship.

What would you expect from a Mexican riviera cruise. It is a party cruise. We loved the splendor when we were on it. Lee is the best cruise director in the Carnival fleet. Make sure when cruising you do your research next time, and you won’t be disappointed.
