Review summary

Overall we were very impressed. Royal Caribbean is normally our cruise line of choice but we wanted to do something for spring break and opted for longer on Carnival embarking from near our home than shorter where we needed additional travel days on a different line. The food and staff were fantastic. Although there was no skating rink, rock climbing wall, etc., there was a water slide and it was fine for an 8-year old to explore. I would definitely recommend. Well worth it, especially for someone who lives in Southern California and would otherwise need airfare.

Embarkation

We purchased FTTF and thought it was well worth it. Our daughter has special medical needs and it was important for us to get quick assess to our stateroom. I would venture that it was less than an hour from entering the terminal to our stateroom.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food and service were fantastic. This was our seventh cruise and the service on this cruise was equal to or better than any other we've ever been.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

4 out of 5
I would rate the musicals as better than average, but not the best we've seen. It was perfect to pass 45 minutes or so, but not something we would have paid extra for.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
We only used the kids club once. My daughter said there was plenty to do, but the staff wasn't very friendly.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
My daughter said she made some friends, and there was plenty to do, but the staff wasn't very friendly.

Cabin / Stateroom

Very pleased. It was worth the upcharge for the extra room and the ability to get some fresh air.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California Did not visit port

We live here.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5 out of 5
Loved Cabo even though the water was too cold for our daughter to snorkel. Everything was right down by the port with tons to do and places to eat.

Mazatlan, Mexico

5 out of 5
Although it was about half an hour bus ride to the Golden District, it was worth it. Once we go there, everything was close and easy to get to.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

3 out of 5
Probably our least favorite. We did an excursion that was three or four hours long and by the time it was over, didn't feel like getting on another bus to go to the downtown area. There wasn't really anything to do near the pier. Even with the long excursion, we spend the least time at this port of the three.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Not bad. I can only say that the FTTF instructions weren't clear and we ended up debarking with those who didn't purchase it.
