Review summary

The worst cruise I have been on. This ships was not designed or staffed to support the number of guests on board. We had to wait for everything; the buffet had excessive long lines, had to wait for sit-down breakfast/brunch, waited for over an hour for dinner. Entertainment was lacking on quantity. Never book a room on deck 6 Aft. The night clubs vibrated our room every night. We could hear the words of the songs and the conversations of the people in the club. I will never book a cruise on the Splendor again.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
We had to wait for 30 minutes to 1 hour before being seated at dinner on 3 of the nights. When we asked the guest relations desk what the issue is, the told us that the ship was at capacity. This says that the ship was not designed or staffed to run at capacity. Many of the dining room staff seemed annoyed to serve us. Several were upbeat and very good, but their efforts were overshadowed by ones that didn't have that same attitude.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Nothing unique about the activities. Trivia seemed to be the main activity they organized.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Sea Day entertainment was lacking. Not much to do on the ship those days. The shows seem to be understaffed since their were only 2 singers on the entire ship that had to cover every event. Our room was right above a night club that vibrated our room every night.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
The only programs are available are the ones that you drop your kid off at. Not much for activities that parents can do with their kids.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Many of the dining room staff seemed annoyed to serve us. Several were upbeat and very good, but their efforts were overshadowed by ones that didn't have that same attitude. The best customer service staff on the boat were the room stewards; they were prompt, efficient, and extremely nice to everyone.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
The ship rocked the entire trip. Our room was not stable the entire trip. We have been on many cruises and had cabins in the front and back of the ship, and this was the worse. The entire cabin vibrated from a combination of the engine noise and the clubs that were below our room.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Never book a room on Deck 6 Aft. The night club will vibrate your room all night. The noise was so bad that we could here the music words, as well as the conversations of the people in there. On Christmas Eve, the music continued until almost 4am.

Ship tip

Any Time dining was not a relaxing or convenient experience on this ship. Every other ship we have been on, it was fast and immediately seated. On this ship, there was not sufficient space allocated for anytime dining in comparison to assigned seats.

Ports of call

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

3 out of 5
Pool area is good with a splash pad for young kids. The zip line is a good value for unlimited rides. The downside to this port is that there is just the port with the cruise line typical shops. There is no town nearby to actually experience the local culture.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
We did the skytram to Paradise Point. It's a nice view from the top, but not much up there. Pretty much just a bar with a view shops. Worth doing for the view

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
Good port being that it is in Old San Juan. We walked to both of the forts and did the tours at our pace. It is a little bit of an uphill climb to the first fort, but then it is a flat walk along the cliff to get to the one at the mouth of the harbor inlet. I would recommend just walking to the forts and go at your own pace instead of taking the tour with the large crowd.

Grand Turk Island

3 out of 5
The downside to this port is that there is just the port with the cruise line typical shops. There is no town nearby to actually experience the local culture.

Been on the Splender 3 time and never had a complaint . I really must say that she is my favourite ship !

I just cruised on the Splendor a few weeks ago. I had a great time. There were short lines to get into Seaday Brunch, but they moved quickly, as did the buffet lines. I had Your Time dining, and only twice had to wait for a table. They gave me a beeper and I waited about 1/2 hour. No big deal. Just go with the flow!

Disappointing as I am going on it on Jan 3rd.  Hope its better than you say.  We were looking forward to it.

We loved splendor. Yes it may be outdated, but I don't go on cruises to "critique" every little thing. We like to sit back and relax, see a part of this earth that we have not seen before. And the food was good, I didn't have to prepare it. Our steward took really good care of us. I didn't do any laundry, wash any dishes. It's what you make of it!

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the ship. My wife and I are having a wonderful time. We are currently in Belize city. The food and service is EXCELLENT in my opinion.
