Best vacation ever thus far! by Johnl111

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Spirit / Destination: Mexico

The crew was super friendly, and the dinning staff remembered our names as well. Food was very good, but needed a just a tad more selection. The general dinning area was hit and miss sometimes, but the steakhouse (although an extra charge) was well worth it! My wife did not like the bed (said it was too thin), but I did. Hot tubs were monopolized for hours by groups of people because the water temperature was just right (hard to get in). The only hot tub that I was able to get into regularly was in the fitness center, but would have rather been in an outdoor hot tub.

We tried Carnival again and were treated to the same disappointing service in the dining room and throughout the ship.

Almost perfect by KenE

Food quality was very good, although many of the more expensive selections that were available a few years ago have been replaced with 'comfort food' choices. Smoking rules for the casino were the best I have ever seen - smoking only allowed at a few tables and selected slot machines, but the rules were not enforced. The volume on the PA system was similar to what you might encounter at a rock concert. A friend brought a sound level meter, and registered 90 decibles - officially the pain threshold and a violation of OSHA standards. The Steak House is a five star restaurant, with outstanding service and some of the best food I have ever had - from appetizer to desert.

A very good cruise by AlbertR1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Spirit / Destination: Mexico

It was a 5 day cruise to Cabo San Lucas from San Diego on the Carnival Spirit. It was a very nice cruise but our cabin was not what I expected. The brochure said that it was a cabin with a balcony but with a restricted view. I had no idea that the restricted view in this case meant that a tender was directly in our path of vision but also encroached on our space making the balcony one-third the size of a normal balcony and also making our cabin smaller than the normal cabin with a balcony. What is even more surprising is that I was supposed to get a 2 level cabin upgrade and this cabin was one of the upgrades I was given to choose from. I've had much better cabins with balconies that were not 2 level cabin upgrades. I should have selected a lower level, unrestricted view cabin with a balcony. There was another feature I did not like and that was that the bathroom and toiletries were equal only to a Motel 6. I'll know better next time not to arrange my travel through CruisesAlert with Alaska Airlines.

It was a little run down. The crew was well trained excellent service for the most part. The boat tended to rock and sway more than any other cruise I have been on.

A Great 8 Day Mexican Cruise by PartyC

The ship was great, the awesome slide was great but it was only open on the 6th day of our trip due to maintenance, so we didn't get much use out of it.

Great Cruise (except for the weather) by GeorgeK4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Spirit / Destination: Hawaii

The Spirit is a wonderful ship. It had just come out of re-ferbishing and was very clean. The crew was exceptional especially the dining room staff. We were dissapointed with our stateroom staff. Gerald was very good for the first coupple of days and then got lazy and did not do simple task that are common for a stateroom attendant to perform.

A restful vacation by SueE2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Spirit / Destination: Hawaii

The ship had just come out of drydock so our trip got off to a somewhat disjointed start until the new crew became more adjusted to their ship. We were late leaving San Diego as a result. There were more than enough activities available for anyone should they want to be active aboard, or plenty of time to kick back and veg, which is why we picked this particular cruise. The staff were freindly and helpful and all in all it was a pleasant experience. At times the food did not seem as great as it used to be "in the old days" but there was more than enough of it, and a good selection most times. Although this was a larger ship than we usually like, we did not feel we were part of a mob. The Serenity area was great. Don't forget the spa and the gym if you want to be active.

Carnival Sprit by GerardL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Spirit / Destination: Hawaii

The boarding process at San Diego was horrible at best. My tv got fixed on the last day. If you did not book a shore excursion with the ship you get no help from the crew and are not let off the ship until all passengers who booked are off. This causes delays and time for non booked excursions. Debarking was also a mess. Took this ship to Alaska 2 years ago and it was very good trip.

Carnival, the Fun Ship by WayneS2

Had a great time. Carnival needs to do a better job of organizing the activities. Amenities and service not as good as it was ten or fifteen years ago.

Best Cruise Ever!!! by CharlotteJ49943

The ship, while smaller for this day and time, was absolutely beautifully decorated in the public areas. Would love to cruise the Spirit again. . . so maybe I'll have to go to Australia!!

This was our second cruise on a Carnival ship with the first being on the Fantasy. Overall the Fantasy cruise was more pleasureable: more fun acitivites, better dining room service.

Horrible Cruise by RoseR2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Spirit / Destination: Mexico

We felt the ship had a very cheap feeling. we had one of the more expensive suites and couldn't believe our eyes when it had a small old stlye TV and a VHS player. Did they really think we would bring VHS tapes. The only suite amenity was early boarding and disembarkation. Food was very mediocre and very few adult activities.

Good value by BrandiC2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Spirit / Destination: Mexico

We took the Christmas and New Year's cruise, 10 days. I must say that the ship is a decent size, but there is not enough to do on board for 10 days. The ship is geared more towards those that have families. The weather was phenomenal and the excursions were a good value. However, at the ports that we did not have an excursion, there was not much to do and the excursions did involves quite a bit of travel time. The stateroom steward was AMAZING. We are fairly tidy people and pick up after ourselves, but to straighten our shoes and turn down the covers for us was great. I was truly impressed in this area. However, I was disappointed in the dining options. All of the buffet lines serve the same thing in the mornings and there is a deli option for lunch/dinner, but the buffet lines still serve the same thing. The pizza station was disgusting. I'm not sure what type of cheese is still super stringy and slides off the pizza (like hot pizza does) when it's COLD? I'm not sure if the cheese was fake or not, but it was gross. The dining room food was good, but our waitor offered very poor service. We decided not to eat here every night because of this. For example, we were one of the first tables to sit and one of the last to leave because we would just be sitting while he served the others, rather rude. The shows were good, but repeated. It was a good value, but I might opt for a shorter cruise or different line next time.

A nice Cruise by JanetC8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Spirit / Destination: Mexico

Our cruise was relatevely good. The ship is beautiful and the service was great! However, our state room was not to standards that we expected, not because of lack of cleanliness or serive. Because of the excessive noise coming from upstairs, we didn't know, nor were we told when we booked that this room was right underneath the Casino kitchen/bar. Every night there was noise, however, on New Year's Eve it was unbearable. We called guest services a few times but there was nothing that could be done. The ship was fully booked. We had a young Grandchild with us had to be in bed at a regular time. No one slept all night, the following morning we had to disembark. We wish we had been told this before we decided to take this room. Originally we had booked a Suite, we had to cancel that when our Grandson decided to come with us as the ship would not accommodate 3 of us in the Suite. This was our first experience in an inside room. We will never do this again and of course this time we had no choice. Should we have been given a reasonable room we would have not had this terrible experience. This room should not be included on your list of state rooms for clients. It is too noisy and unacceptable.
