Review summary

The ship had just come out of drydock so our trip got off to a somewhat disjointed start until the new crew became more adjusted to their ship. We were late leaving San Diego as a result. There were more than enough activities available for anyone should they want to be active aboard, or plenty of time to kick back and veg, which is why we picked this particular cruise. The staff were freindly and helpful and all in all it was a pleasant experience. At times the food did not seem as great as it used to be "in the old days" but there was more than enough of it, and a good selection most times. Although this was a larger ship than we usually like, we did not feel we were part of a mob. The Serenity area was great. Don't forget the spa and the gym if you want to be active.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The anytime dining was wonderful. Being able to eat when you feel like it rather than answer a "dinner bell" great. Some times we preferred to eat alone and sometimes we enjoyed the company of either others in our group or new people. The menu did not always offer what we wanted but there was always the "fallback" items that were good. The Buffet choices offered plenty of selections.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Plenty of options available, and maybe too many options. Since we did not pick the cruise for the activities, we preferred to rest, read and relax and really did not take part in many activities. Allergies to smoke kept our casino time to a bare minimum, althoug they did try to confine smoking to one area. As for the clubs and evening entertainment, we cannot comment as we were too busy enjoying the insides of our eyelids, due to the pleasant rocking of the ship.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our cabin steward was outstanding and kept us put together. His wife was our waiter in the dining room most evenings, since we usually asked for her area. Having both looking after our interests made us feel special and well cared for at all times. Even any other staff we encountered out and about were friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
some of the decor was a bit gaudy but the ship was clean and well laid out. It was well maintained and comfortable.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our balcony cabin was well located and comfortable. The bed was also very comfortable and sleeping was great. We did miss not having the mini bottles of skin lotion, etc. that used to be in the bathroom. Everything was clean and with some minor adjustments, even the shower pressure and temperature were fine.

Pros: The five days at sea going over and the 5 days at sea returning were so restful and relaxing.

Cons: The brief ( but we understand, necessary) stop in Encenada Mexico. Not a good time to even bother leaving the ship to do anything.
