Carnival Pride 7/7-14/2013 by DocSha

For the most part, the cruise was fantastic!!! It was the second cruise for my husband and me and the first for my daughter (20) and son (14). My son did not participate in Circle C because he is almost 15 and would have preferred to be with 15-17 year olds vs 12-14 year olds. Days at sea (3) were fantastic because you had no choice but to relax. I highly recommend cruises with at least 2 days at sea! Our room steward was wonderful-always available and addressed us by name which was a very nice touch. We had 2 adjacent balcony rooms on deck 8 and had the divider on the balcony opened so we could all be together. We made very good use of the balconies. A previous reviewer commented on a continuous vibration throughout the cruise. While we did feel it, it did not detract from our experience. For the most part, the food was very good. We had breakfast 2 mornings in Normandie DR - they were only okay. We much preferred the buffet breakfast on Lido deck - better variety of food. Dinners in Normandie were great - we had own time dining so we had different wait staff most nights. Most were fantastic but one woman seemed very frazzled and forgot to smile. We especially liked the "didja" portion of the menu as we were able to try alligator, shark, escargot and frog's legs (all of which were delicious)!! My kids loved that they could order several choices for each course and took full advantage of that, especially the desserts and appetizers!! The ports were okay. In Port Canaveral, we opted to take a taxi to Cocoa Beach, which was a very relaxing choice. If you choose Cocoa Beach, just take a taxi from the port- DO NOT PAY FOR THE EXCURSION!!! Round-trip taxi was $10/person. Then rent chairs on the beach for $7 or $10. In Nassau, we really enjoyed shopping, especially in the Straw Market. We then walked down to Junkanoo Beach, which was not as nice as Cocoa Beach. There was plenty of time in both of these ports to choose several activities. In Freeport, there was only a five-hour window. We took a taxi (RT $10/person) to Lucaya Marketplace and beach across the street. The marketplace is much smaller than in Nassau so shop in Nassau sooner than Freeport. The beach was okay, not nearly as nice as I had hoped. Also, the time was too short. Entertainment on ship- you can do as much or as little as you like. Activities are scheduled throughout the day and evening. We went to the shows in Taj Mahal each night. For the most part, they were quite enjoyable but some of the dancers couldn't keep up and it was quite noticeable. The Motown night was fair. Marcus Anthony has a nice voice but I didn't really care for most of his song choices, not upbeat enough. The comedians were terrible. We only saw the family- friendly shows and they were awful. Another couple told us the adult-only shows were raunchy. The trivia games were fun. The marriage game was quite entertaining although the same questions are asked on all Carnival ships. All in all, a great time was had by all!!!! The only reason we would not choose this cruise again is because we want to visit different ports.

Horrible by Mfwilliams

The ship was very rocky. I have never gotten sick in a cruise as I did in this one! A few staff members were wonderful and I have nothing bad to say. A few other on the other hand were rude and not pleasant to speak to. The activities on the ship were repetitive daily. I have been in other cruises where the activities varied daily and that made my trip exciting and fun. To wake upto the same thing for seven days, not so much! Although the comedy shows were entertaining, the comedians repeated the same jokes every night. Boring! Nonetheless, having a comedy as the only adult evening show was boring after the second day! I expected more from carnival. After this cruise I do not plan on traveling with carnival again.

The overall cruise was pretty much as expected. This was the first time we had open seating in the dining room. When we booked our cruise our agent said that was all that as available but we could ask the maitre d upon arrival for set table and reservation. We tried pon arrival and we were told that we would have to wait in line every night for a table. The first 2 nights of dining were unimpressive. We then went on Wednesday and expressed our dissatisfaction and we were placed at a set reservation and table for the remaining cruise.

relaxing time by Knees

I had a very good time on this cruise. The ship was very clean and well maintained. The balcony rooms were spacious and provided all you needed. The dining room and Lido grills had a variety of foods. The Steakhouse was excellent and worth the extra expense. There was plenty of entertainment and activities. I used the spa of my morning workouts and for a massage my 1st day. The crew was excellent, always willing to help or get you what you needed. I only wished that the main dining room was open for lunch.

Incredible vacation fun! by kyablo

Entire family on the Carnival Pride for 7 days had a blast! Activities kept everyone busy including the grandparents who both even won contest on board. The kids danced, played games , and had a great time with staff and meeting other kids. The food was great everywhere we ate and the staff fun and very friendly. We went on excursions in the Bahamas- snorkling. In Freeport swim with the Dolphins and others went on tours or fishing. Everyone raved about their outings and want to go back. We will definately book another cruise with Carnival in the near future.

I loved the 2days at sea ..it was very relaxing. The ship wasn't overcrowded so you were able to enjoy the casino , and not have to wait long in the line for food.. I would definitely do this cruise again!

Service was wonderful! My son had an excellent time with the camp for kids. The boat was not overly crowded. The cabins with the balcony were nice size space we roomed 4 and we had enough space. The view from the room was absolutely beautiful! My only issue was the departure process very unorganized.

Stinky and Noisy. by WasabiJay

This was our second time on the Carnival Pride, and with the exception of these few items, I would say that it was a good trip. But these few items really pissed me off. 1. They allow smoking on the Balconies of the ship. WTF?! 1st off, extremely dangerous. You can sit there and watch the glowing ashes fly by your balcony. Every time I would open my balcony door, It would suck in the occasional lit ash. I was just waiting for a room fire! 2nd, I have smoke allergies, so I paid a pretty penny to have a balcony so that we didn't have to inhale the second hand smoke on every deck of the ship. I don't think we ever had a chance to smell the clean sea air while on the ship. We had to complain about the smoke smell in our room. It was handled by the attendant coming in and saying "I don't smell anything" How about containing the smokers with balconies to one side of the ship? That sounds fair to me. Not safe, but fair. 2. Something has to be done about the noise. From the slamming balcony doors to the slamming bathroom doors to the slamming room doors, the cleaning crew slamming their vacuums at 7am, and the children and adults running up and down the hallways, It was an auditory mess. I don't think we slept passed 8am on the entire trip. What can be done? How about some roaming security of some sort? How about some hallway cameras for the safety of your guests? How about paying attention to what's going on in your ship? The saving grace of this trip was the AMAZING service at dinner. We had the YOUR TIME Dining, which we've never had before. There was a couple of hitches with YOUR TIME. First, If you want to make the performances (which are at ^pm and 9pm), you have to go early. By Wednesday, everyone knew this, so there was a huge line and a 30-45 minute wait....so we missed the show. I though they used to have the shows at 10pm. This would be an easy fix for the YOUR TIME Dinner issue. The food was very good. I had a couple items that weren't perfect and got sent back, but was either fixed or remade without a complaint. There is a PIZZA Bar that stays open 24 hours. The PIZZA is really good, but it takes forever. There's only one or 2 guys there making each pie as you order. So the minimum wait is 5-10 minutes. We waited 30-45 on occasion. Considering it's really the only thing open at night...Carnival needs to fix this! Other than the above mentioned items, it really was a fun trip. When you take this cruise, save your money on Excursions, and 1st take a Taxi to CoCo Beach. There's a cool old pier there where you can get food and chill. When at Nassau, you can get to Cable Beach for $6 by Taxi or Junkanoo Beach is just a short walk (1mile) from the ship (you actually can see it from the right side of the ship when you come in). Lastly, Freeport has a pretty cool beach called "The Junkanoo Beach Club" I think it's $14 Roundtrip to get there, but it was a neat place (cafe, coconuts on the beach, your typical beach shell and trinket saleswomen). Have fun, and bring your Allegra and EarPlugs!! Jay

good cruise by ohiocruiser955

The cruise was good in every sense. One thing I caution is my credit card(American express card) was compromised and I had to cancel my card right after my cruise. I caution everyone to be careful with your credit card after your cruise because i don't trust my credit card with them.

Exceeded Expectations! by NewMDCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We had heard from friends that cruising was a great vacation, so we thought we would give it a try. Bottom line, it was great – and we are looking forward to the next one! We really appreciated not having to figure out where to go, how to get there and when to leave. It is all there! Being “unplugged” and “taken care of” was probably the best features. Some details from our perspective – General operations – They certainly have this down to a fine science! Everything is organized and planned out so that there is minimal waiting. Getting on board and to the room was very easy – going to dinner, going to excursions, and then getting off the ship is very well done. Fortunately we live in Maryland, so we were dropped off at the port and did not have to pay for airfare or parking – couldn’t get any better! Room – not having ever gone on a cruise, it was hard to determine what kind of room to get. We decided on a balcony room, and it was a good decision! As we talked about our “next” cruise, we wanted to determine if the balcony room was worth it, so I asked the guest services if I could see other rooms. They recommended that I “tour the ship” after all the rooms were empties for disembarkation on the morning we got back to port. So, I took a little trip and visited several rooms on a couple of different floors. The interior room is OK if all you do is sleep in there, it would be very confining for a whole week – reminded me of a dorm room. The ocean view rooms were a bit better, but the extra cost for a balcony was well worth the experience of the private time, fresh air, sea spray and open feeling it gave the room. We definitely will be getting the balcony anytime we cruise in the future. We actually got an extended balcony, so we were able to “stretch out” as we read and enjoyed the views. In our travels, we have usually been in one hotel for a few days then on to another, so we never really unpacked. This time, we emptied our suitcases in the ample closet space and felt right at home. The best part – and it comes with any room – is the twice daily room cleaning! Leave for breakfast, come back and the room is clean! Leave for dinner, come back and the room is clean! It was so relaxing!!! FOOD – Cruise ships are known for the food, and we were quite satisfied. Some “seasoned” cruisers said that food on other cruise lines is better, but we did not have any complaints. Not sure that it is worth the $$ to go on a more expensive cruise just for the food – we can do that in our city! We had the “early” dinner and heard from many that we choose right. The “any time” dinners were a bit miffed with the service. We had the same waiters every night, they knew our names, and were like old friends from the time we first sat down. We did pay extra to dine at the David’s Steakhouse – and it was worth it! What a great dinner! The only issue we had was we were seated next to a family and we had to ask the waiter to ask the kid to turn down his Pokemon game….. Drinking… initially I was a bit apprehensive that there would be just a lot of drunken people everywhere. I was wrong. There may be, but it was not apparent – lots of people enjoying drinks, but not obnoxious drunks! Drinks were a bit expensive, so we only had a few in the bar, by the pool and with dinner. We took advantage of bringing our favorite wine with us and plastic wine glasses. Entertainment – This probably was the least great thing about the cruise. We don’t do the casino thing, so can’t comment on that aspect. The nightly shows were OK, but could have been a bit better. The comedy club was good and bad – just depended on the comedian. We enjoyed having the multiple venues for music in the “bars”, poolside, and in the atrium. The pools are OK, but they need to be either bigger or have more of them. The adult only “Serenity” is a great place to relax, but the Hot Tub was too small. Guess that is the advantage of going on a newer and bigger ship. However, there is something for everyone on the cruise, and you only have to “walk” to get there! Excursions – We were fortunate that we had friends who had just gone on this cruise a few months prior, and they gave us information about the excursions. We were going to just stay on the ship when in Port Canaveral – but decided to take the shuttle to Cocoa Village – not worth it . Weather was stormy, so the persons who went to the beach were also a bit disappointed. In Nassau we did the jeep tour – again, it was raining, so it was a better choice than the beach, but there is really not much to see in Nassau to tour…. But driving a jeep on the “wrong” side of the road was fun. The tour guide was great! We used the remaining couple of hours to walk to get some of the “real” Bahamian food and then did a little shopping. In Freeport we did the Kayak / Beach tour – and it was FABOULOUS!! The van drops you off at the mouth of the creek at the Ocean – what a beautiful view. The creek is shallow (1-3ft) and clear. You could see the fish and the shale on the bottom. We kayaked for about 1 hour – easy meandering up the creek to the stopping point. We then had a “nature walk” through the tropical forest to the beach. It was gorgeous – a private beach that was beautiful!! We had about an hour at the beach, and they served a picnic lunch. This certainly well worth the $$ - we would do it again. Summary – This was so much better than our expectations – and we have fairly high expectations with vacations/restaurants/travel. It is so relaxing to have your “hotel” take you to the places you want to visit! We certainly will be cruising again. We loved the “mix” and “equality” of people on the ship – it was great meeting new cruisers and veteran cruisers who shared “tips” with us. We would like to know what you get for the increased price of the other cruises because this was pretty great! This Carnival Cruise out of Baltimore was good for our first trip – and we will be sailing on Carnival again – maybe even this very same cruise – we met many repeaters!!

Afforable Family Vacation by PostalPolice

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I really enjoyed this cruise for several reasons and the number one reason was the low cost. The ship, crew, food and cabins were all great and Cruise.Com team did an outstanding job finding us this great vacation deal. We had a balony cabin and we selected the open seating during diner which allowed us to see the many shows and other entertainment on the ship. The only negitive thing we noticed on board was a small group of inner city unmannered hood rats who talked very loud, shouted and used profanity as if was both acceptable and normal. The crew heard this an did nothing to curb this behavior. Other than that it was a great cruise.

5th cruise by sirwm

It seemed to me and my sister that for the most part it wasn't up to what we had on other cruises. It was almost like the crew's heart was not in the cruise. This was my 5th cruise all on Carnival. Have in the past always praised the crew. Bill

The absolute worst by Nomorecruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My first & last cruise: First, there are only three ports on this cruise an one was eliminated, so that left two ports. It's a seven day cruise and the five hours in the two ports, ten hours on land over seven days hardly makes for an enjoyable experience. Conversely, I felt imprisoned. In addition, when we arrived in the port of Freeport, Bahamas it was at 7 am and we had to pay for our own transportation to the beach. It was too early to really have decent weather since it was slightly overcast, so we decided to enjoy shopping in the nearby market, but wait nothing opened until 9-9:30, so hours were wasted. 12:30 came quickly and we had to head back to the ship. The food is simply average and several nights there was simply nothing I wanted, but because I couldn't run to the nearest restaurant on the water I was relegated to having food I didn't enjoy. I expected a large pool aboard ship with room to really swim, but rather found several very tiny pools that you could only dangle your feet in and with the masses doing this that's all I wanted to do. My room was clean and decent, albeit quite dated in pastel pink. The room steward was pretty amazing. Courteous, hard working, and attentive. The room was an extended balcony suite and I got a lot of use out if the balcony & really enjoyed the view. In sum, I will NEVER go on a cruise again. I prefer to control my itinerary and see and do at my pleasure. I'm sure there are many exceptional cruise experiences and I had the unbenefit to not have a great one, so I'm not willing to take the risk again.

First Cruise by 01cruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My husband and I were really excited to take our first cruise with Carnival. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We are campers not cruisers so this was all new to us. The ship was nice and our stateroom with a balcony was great. We loved Bobby our steward on board. He kept our cabin clean and he was so personable. The food was great and so was the intertainment. Mother nature however was another story. The whole cruise we only had about 1/2 a day of sun. This was dissapointing to us, but we made the best of it. We will try carnival one more time.
