Review summary

Carnival has a reputation for being the "Fun" ship and my wife and I were not sure it would be a good match for us.  We were pleasantly surprised.  Food was better than expected, especially outside of the main dining room.  Shushi restaurant was terrific as was the steakhouse.  Guy's Burgers also good.  Ship seemed to be in very good repair and kept clean in all areas.  Smoking in the Casino was a problem for us, as smoke drifts into the main atrium.  But, the staff was terrific and the stateroom was more than adequate.  For the price, I'd recommend it.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The "Dine When you Like" option should be called "Dine When you Like to Stand in LIne." Carnival needs to manage the seating and serving problems in the main dining room. Endless waits to get in and very slow service at the table. We avoided the dining room after two nights and ate mostly in the specialty restaurants and the Lido. Ratti in Bonsai Sushi and Rinni in the Plaza Café were the most amazing staff we have ever met on a cruise. So friendly and welcoming! Jeffrey in Bonsai Sushi has a true gift for the art - some of the best sushi we have ever had!

Onboard Activities

With the exception of Patrick in the Piano Bar, who was exceptional, we thought the onboard activities had a lot of room for improvement.

Basic, but certainly adequate. Very clean. 4191 has big windows but restricted view, which we knew in advance.

Ship tip

Try to get away from the large groups going on shore excursions and do some exploring on your own. We met very friendly locals that way and didn't feel like we were herded from ship to bus to ship.

Ports of call

Baltimore, Maryland

Get away from the cruise port and explore the town. Very good history museum there to visit and some lovely houses.

Oranjestad, Aruba

We are not great shoppers, so the main town had little for us. We did have an amazing dinner at "Passion on the Beach" where we dined just feet from the surf. Very romantic meal at sunset.

Willemstad, Curacao

If you are there on a Sunday, as we were, not much is open.

Bonaire, Netherlands Special Municipality

We went kayaking and snorkeling in the mangrove preserve. Wonderful. Not offered by the ship, but arranged through Trip Advisor. Terrific!

Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S.V.I.

small town with taxi drivers that fight over you as soon as you step off the pier. Visit the Botanical Gardens and the Sugar Mill Musem nearby, both worth it.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

We only had a few hours here, but highly recommend visiting the "Casa Blanca".
