Review summary

In 2016, my Mother and I took a cruise with some of our family members. My alkaline water was confiscated at the security check point despite my protest that I needed it for medicinal purposes. The cruise line employee at the security check point told me I would be able to get this water aboard ship. My cousin had brought the bottles to the ship for me and she had packed another bottle in their luggage which was also confiscated. I started calling Guest Services aboard ship to find out where to acquire alkaline water and waited for call backs and after talking with cabin steward, it turns out there is no alkaline water onboard the ship and lethargic attempts by Guest Services staff to locate this water ashore were futile. We left the boat and managed to find some by accident when an employee at the Walmart was drinking alkaline water and she told me where I could get same and this was day 4 aboard the ship. Given I need this water to reduce the acidity in my stomach for digestive purposes, the lack of this alkaline water severely impacted what I could eat. Also, this was not the brand I normally use so either it is a weaker formula or the fact that I had been unable to use this water for the first 4 days of the cruise and my stomach became supersensitive. I had a couple of diarrhea episodes which stained my clothing and I had to wear them to go ashore in search of the alkaline water (embarassing to say the least). I have requested refunds from the cruise line but they state that the payment of my cleaning bill as offered aboard the ship was all they were willing to provide. I told them this situation severely impacted our trip as I could not eat much (cruises are supposed to afford you the ability to eat a large variety of foods and buffet style). Because of this situation, I couldn't eat much and this severely impacted my ability to partake of activities onboard ship and ashore. My 95 y/o Mother was impacted as well because she could not go to activities without me to accompany her. The food onboard ship was mediocre at best and given we did not participate in activities onboard this trip was a total waste of money! I have taken trips on other cruise lines and this one did not come anywhere close in comparison.Recommend strongly that those considering a cruise to bypass this company, C Wright Note: For this review I had to select your website's date and itinerary choices vs. the actual ones because the default choices were inaccurate.

much easier to complain than to admit she didn't read the rules for what you can and can't bring you can bring caned water or soda

why didn't you bring a small amount of baking soda aboard to make your own alkaline water? Not what you're used to, but it would get you through the week in a pinch.

Next cruise in advance check special diet and submit alkaline water and a doctor's note or Rx , they will accommodate you just like the folks they have distilled water for when requested.

Unfortunately policy states you're not allowed to bring ANY Bottled Water onboard. That has been in effect since the summer of 2015. Doesn't matter the medical reason it is strictly enforced. Even if you have a baby on powdered formula which you have to mix with water for the bottles you cant bring it aboard if it's in a bottle. You can order a case of regular water or if you have a CPAP you can get distilled water through Carnival. Unfortunately due to the folks that used bottled water to smuggle liquor onboard they changed their policy. Also just in case you didn't realize NCL no longer allows it either.
