It would have been much better if they had let us change our sailing dates and avoid the hurricane. For a cruise to ship to just dump us off in New Orleans was not taking care of their customers. I believe Carnival will have a hard time getting the passengers of the Magic to cruise with them again.
Embarkation

We called the day before and the day we were to depart and was told by Carnival the cruise had not changed. We would be going to the ports of call we had booked. Then at the safety meeting as we were pulling away we were told we would be changing to a western Caribbean cruise. Which included Belize which is a very bad port which I would have never chose to go to.

Cabin / Stateroom

Very nice room. Having 2 showers in our room made getting ready in the morning a breeze.
This was the worst part of our cruise. We disembarked in New Orleans. No help with luggage. We were told we would be responsible for getting all of our luggage from our stateroom to the pier. We had left our car in Orlando and now had to find transportation back. We were offered to stay on the ship with no definite return to Port Canaveral. This was handled very bad. We had to rent a car home at a cost of $310 for one day. They had told us they had turned on the phones so we could arrange for transportation. The phones never worked to make a call off the ship. We had to pay for internet connection at $25 a day and then it was so slow many websites would disconnect while trying to make reservations.
Was on this same voyage and appreciate how well Carnival prepared for the changes that would keep us safe from the storm. Choices were given to disembark in NOLA, get off and tour, or stay on. Those who would chose to get off were also told they would have to manage their own luggage.
During the return to home the ship actually stopped to make what could have been a rescue when a floating raft was observed.
Kuddo's to all the crew on board who took a lot of flack from many passengers, but did not give it back.
We have traveled/sailed Carnival 5 times. We have LOVED every single experience!!! 4 of the 5 times have been in the peak of Hurricane season and have had only the one/most recent change to the itinerary to avoid a Hurricane. We have ABSOLUTELY have NO complaints!!!! Carnival has always gone above our expectations. If you've had a bad experience, then I'm sorry but we've had nothing but wonderful experiences and memories. And we've been cruising with Carnival for 9 years.
Yes, the best place to be during a hurricane is ON A SHIP! Especially one that took the time to restock and get new entertainment. Party ON!
Another cruise line dumped their passengers off in Miami! That was awful!
We were on this cruise and we loved it!!!!! The crew went above and beyond for us in every way!! They even flew in New entertainment for us! We chose to remain on the ship rather than get off in NOLA. It was the safest decision for us. I am already looking to book on this ship again soon. We never felt like we were being dumped anywhere. Having unexpected days at sea was a very minor inconvenience when compared to our safety.
I just got off that ship on Wednesday morning! We had the best time! They took great care of us! And YOU WERE NOT DUMPED OFF IN NEW Orleans you had the option to do so! If you are so upset DONT CRUISE DURING HURRICANE SEASON!
Let's do a little math. There were at least 13 cruises cancelled, at 4,000 passengers per ship, equals about 52,000 passengers you would like to change cruises. Since most ships run close to 100% capacity these 52,000 may have a long wait on 'standby'. Actual numbers are probably higher too. From other cruisers here Carnival's actions seem very favorable and increased loyalty levels.
From every news report and social media updates I've read, everyone had the option of stay on or getting off. Once you're off.... Yea, you're on your own. Obviously they are not going to keep providing you with assistance if you leave the ship.
