Review summary

My wife and I are frequent cruisers since the kids have graduated taking one about every 9 months.  We started with Carnival because of the kids and are nearing the sought after Platinum level and the perks that go with it.  Must say that after the 7 days on the Magic last week we are doubting we will ever go on another Carnival cruise again.  First the good things;  The Alchemy Bar is a jewel and one of the best concepts for a bar on any ship that I have ever been on.  We also enjoyed the piano bar and the comedy club.  The buffet on the Lido deck is generally above average and usually never crowded.  The ports of call were excellent and the only reason my rating was as high as it was because... it is a known fact that Carnival has cut way back on anything that costs them to do, the result is a sub par cruise.  The dining room is just plain bad.  We did your time dining and we always had a minimum 30 minute wait to get in and when you get there the dining room is half empty and the service is horrible because of the understaffing.  Food ranges from excellent to dog food quality, halfway through the cruise we gave up on the dining room and ate at the specialty restaurant one night and the buffet.  The shows were pathetic and sparse with no live bands anymore, a cost cutback.  I have never been on a cruise ship in which the entertainment was so bad.  The smoking on this ship, especially on the casino was also so bad that we got to the point that we could not go in or get near it or on the 12th deck.  The layout of this class of ship is bad and getting from one place to another can be a maze and require you to go up one floor to get down to the same floor especially on the 3rd level.  The service in general like dining or your stateroom is below par because of staff reductions which is the point of going on a luxury cruise liner, which Carnival has apparently decided to down grade themselves to a going out of business cruise liner.

RC by far has the worst food on the sea. They will nickel & dime you to death for any mediocre food options. You will be happy to see a port to get edible food. The casino was boring with rude fellow cruisers- we always have a blast on Carnival. We love Carnival and have for many years. Our grandchildren will become Platinum this year and they are always excited when we get ready for our next cruise.

We just got off the Magic last Saturday.  The food in the MDR was excellent!  I will agree that the dining room with "anytime" dining was sparsely populated every night, but assigned seating in ours was packed with outstanding service.  We cruise Carnival often (working towards Diamond), and the Magic is our new favorite!  We also cruise Celebrity, but love the fun on Carnival.  More interesting ports than RCL, and many fewer items to pay extra for.  Fabulous cruise director "Dr. E" kept everyone having fun.  To each his own, I guess!

I can hardly wait to see their comments on RC, DC or the others that are not what they call Wal-Mart.

I would say stay home also. sorry you did not enjoy, but to call Carnival the Walmart of the sea is ridiculous. let's see if u like paying for all the up charges on Royal Caribbean. make sure comment in that. my wife and I love the Magic!

We've always cruised Carnival. I agree the service isn't like it used to be, and I don't like to now pay for things we used to get for free. But at the same time, it's still one of the best deals for the money and we're going again next January. It is what you make it.

Have never had a bad Carnival Cruise, even when things were not what some people call perfect. "It's is what it is" make the best of it. I'm sure you have a Rolls Royce and live in a perfect bubble, but somethings in life just are not perfect. Don't cruise with Carnival again, those of us that can take some good with the bad will just have to learn to live without you. Here's to Carnival who has always made it happen to the best of their ability, order a "AMF" set back and enjoy.

Tim and Marge, you are smoker-ist. you should have to go to sensitivity training...just kidding. I am sorry to hear about your experience. I hope you keep cruising. but sometimes I worry the cruise industry is going the way of the airlines.in the 80s and before flying even coach was a big deal, people dressed up, and everyone got a meal. if discount cruises have the demand they will supply

Royal is a lot more expensive and worst food ever ships are rusted entertainment sucked so go ahead pay more and get less

To each his own. we loved the Magic and had no problems on our September cruise. If Royal makes you happy then stick with them. Carnival had good pricing for a good vacation.😊

That's what I say STAY HOME DON'T want to hear it. We was just on Magic, had a great time Food was awesome. We always do early dining no wait same table ever night. There was 52 people cruising with us. Went by bus. Awesome. Going again in October with 30 woman and then again in February 2018 with so far 35 people. Carnival every time. Every year in February. And ladies cruise in late October or early November.

That's sad cuz you plan a vacation and are dissatisfied. We always cruised carnival from our first cruise. A few years back switched over to Royal. Last July we did the Magic and it was fine. But....this July we're going back to royals Harmony
