Just got off the legend... by Lyle02

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Legend

Just got off the legend today and it's an awesome ship! Yes it has a little rust here and there but don't let the Debbie downers on here ruin it for you! Jen was an awesome cruise director! Staff and food all very good! The ship got to go thru Tracy arm fjord for 1st time in 2 yrs!! This due to too much ice previously. I highly recommend the carnival hub app. We bought the chat feature and it was invaluable for our large group. Since I had a group of new cruisers with us, thought I would post some answers to what they asked me. So to all you new cruisers, just letting you know that it gets extremely busy in the buffet when you board on embarkation day after that it's a lot calmer. The even number cabins are on the left (port board) side. Odd number cabins on right (star board) side. Fine dining is in the back of the ship. Most of the entertainment is at the very front. If you get mixed up and not sure if you are headed forward or backward, look out a window and see which way the water is moving. If anyone wants a balcony room I'd recommend trying to get one off the back of the ship. They should be more wind protected as it can get quite cool on the side balconies. Also have heard some complaining about Alaska on here and on our cruise. There is a reason it's called the final frontier!! Its very pristine and not very populated. Not even close to a "big city" feel if that is what you are used to. But it's extremely beautiful and a trip everyone should make at least once!!

This was a great cruise.... by andyakacruiserman

Ship: Carnival Legend

This was a great cruise. I would recommend it to anyone. If you like shopping off the boat Juneau and Ketchikan will be your best opportunities. Victoria had almost no shops at all near the ship. The train in Skagway provides awesome views, that was my favorite excursion. Great cruise ! Ship is old but it did not take away from the experience

Scenic Alaskan Inside Passage Cruise by wimbles

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The photographers did a good job of capturing lots of memories. I think there should be more options on sizes of photos. Most of the photos you can only purchase as 8x10. We didn't need that many large photos. We did buy a LOT of photos. We left with the 20 by 30 canvas along with many other pictues. I also think if you purchase as many photos as we did, that we should be able to get copies of ALL of our pictures on the flash drive. My husband and I cruised 25 years ago on our honeymoon, this was a 25th anniversary celebration, and we brought our 14 year old son with us.

Alaska is always a great choice for a cruise but Carnival would not be my pick again for the ship to take the adventure on.

The cruise was amazing. Jen... by ladybuglove6

Ship: Carnival Legend

The cruise was amazing. Jen was the best Cruise director ever. Eden was a funny peppy sidekick. Putu was a kind hardworking steward for the cabin. The Club O2 and Club Carnival Stingray directors were amazing with both my girls. They could not stop saying so many nice things about the club's. The food was great. We had a steak night the food was delicious, the staff was very friendly, they made the experience perfect. My oldest and I did a paint night with Zoe. She is so much fun. Please go to her class, you will not regret it. We did breakfast with Green eggs and ham. We had a great time with the staff and characters. Make sure to bring your swimsuit. It is breathtaking to be able to be in the hot tub with the glaciers behind you.

This was our first cruise... by PammieGale

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Legend

This was our first cruise celebrating our 30 yr Anniversary! Did not know what to expect as a newbie but thought the ship was very "Las Vegas" feel regarding its decor. I read it was due for an update soon tho. Our cabin was always very clean and every staff member we were around spoke to us and asked if we were having a good vacation! Super friendly! Loved our table staff in Truffles! Very attentive to what we wanted. Jen the cruise director was a hoot! Loved the 80s trivia & karaoke. Our grown son hung out at the piano sing along most nights! The Punchliner comedy club was good especially Allison, the clubs host! Very funny! Overall it was a trip of a lifetime for us. Enjoyed having downtime with the hubs!

Two thumbs up! by crimsonrain

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Just returned from our cruise and what a great week it was.  The Legend is due to go into dry dock in the near future and some of its decor is dated in color. However, with that being said, the ships interior was spotless. The Legend's crew was outstanding.  The wait staff in the main dining room and our steward went above and beyond to make our cruise memorable.  All of our ports were fantastic. I wish we could've spent more time in Victoria BC. I highly recommend this cruise.

Alaska the Beautiful by smoak

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I enjoyed myself on this cruise and was happy to have the opportunities that it provides. Some unique things to see not available if you were to travel by land would be the sea life and taking on pilots mid-cruise to steer through the ice. Tracy Arm Fjord's beauty and majesty was unsurpassed!

Some dissapointments by gvrobinson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Our favorite part of the cruise was the Deluxe Yukon Sightseeing Tour.  It is a beautiful trip. and our guide "Brian" was very willing to accommodate us, and he was very friendly.  The Mendenhall Glacier and Salmon bake were a disappointment.  First of all, there isn't enough time to take the walk to the falls, enjoy the Glacier, and get back to the bus on time.  Either give it more time or cancel the Salmon bake.

We have tried on two different cruise line to see Tracy arm Fjord, and were unable to see it because the ship couldn't enter the Fjord because of ice.  The first time the cruise line made up for it.  This time however, there wasn't even an announcement that any of us could hear nor could some of the people who took the shore excursion associated with it; that we weren't entering Tracy Arm Fjord.  We saw Endicott Fjord and Dawes glacier instead.  The people who took the excursion believed that they were in Tracy Arm Fjord.  I think Carnival can, and should do better.

Carnival Legend is one of our favorite ships. Very laid back, relaxing cruise. Clean, friendly staff. It would be nice if we could get more time in ports. So much to see and do.

Our First Alaska Cruise by evelasco3

Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Loved going to the fjord and all the ports. We did the train ride in Skagway and enjoyed that. In Juneau we went to Mendenhall Glacier and whale watching in Auke Bay. Absolutely beautiful! It was the best part of our trip.

Nice vacation! by deb57281611

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Traveling with children as a single mom is just stressful so we'll start wiht that.   Any issues I had while on board were quickly resolved.   I rated a few things lower because:

1. The layout of the ship was kind of interesting.  For example the easiest way to get to the water park was through the 21 and over area.  So for the first few days, we walked all of the way the other way to find a way to get there so I wasn't dragging my kids through the adults only pool(huge sign that said "Must be 21 or older to enter").   I finally just started taking them through to avoid a mile walk that wasn't necessary.

2. I didn't feel like there were a ton of interesting activities during the day.

3. Ketchikan might not be the best destination- it rains twice as much as Seattle.  Doing an excursion in 50 degree rain in an open boat isn't overly fun...  Otherwise the weather is beautiful- 60 degrees and sunny.

My kids had a great time in the "camps" and the staff seemed really friendly.  The space seemed a bit small though.   Food was good but didn't blow me away(never really has on a cruise ship).  Staff was fun and friendly!  LOVED Berjanette in the spa- ask for her!

Great Boat, Great Ports, Great Dining Service by angelbrowntn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We have cruised with Carnival over 10 times (I have lost count!) and this is one of the top 3 cruises we have taken. The boat was beautiful and well maintained. The food was better with more variety than other boats. The whole vibe was different - much more laid back and easy going. Not as much loud music and partying. We enjoy both atmospheres, but this was a nice change. Our wait staff at dinner was THE BEST we've ever had!!! From Susana (hostess) to Anthony and Roman (waiters) they made our whole experience one to remember. The ports were great and we booked 3 excursions through Carnival (our first time doing this - I usually use outside companies), and they were all amazing!

This trip started out badly... by tpost55

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Legend

This trip started out badly but ended great. First of all I am fully aware of the risks of flying the day of the cruise but we've done it twice with no issues. It works better for us to fly out the morning of the cruise and pay carnival to shuttle us. So with that said our flight out of Dallas on Alaska Airlines Tuesday, May 23 was cancelled. An Alaska air rep worked tirelessly trying to find a flight that would get us to Seattle in time to make the ship but it was not to be. Rather than cancel our cruise and file on insurance we chose the option of Alaska flying us Wednesday to Seattle and then onto Juneau. We could board the Legend Thursday when the ship docked. We cleared this with Carnival and they were ok with us boarding Thursday. There is one thing that almost caused us to cancel and that is the fact that due to an obscure maritime law passed by congress back in 1920 we would have to pay $300/person to board the ship. This is because the ship left a US port and we were boarding at a US port. If we had boarded at a foreign port the fee wouldn't have applied. We talked to Alaska and they agreed to cover that cost since they were the reason we had to board in Juneau. We got to spend extra time in Juneau and went to Mendenhall Glacier Wednesday afternoon. It was great! With high powered binoculars we were able to see a black bear and her cub and about 25 mountain goats on the hillside to the right of the glacier. Then we got to spend a few hours in Juneau Thursday morning waiting on the ship. Ate at the twisted fish and it was really good. Alaska Air did their best to make up for the issues Tuesday. Put 6 in our group and 3 other couples in hotels for 2 nights and gave us meal vouchers. Also gave all of us $400 toward a future flight anywhere they fly good for a year. We missed 2 days of the cruise but from what we were told there were 25' seas the first sea day and a lot of people were sick in their cabins led us to think maybe we came out better than some on the ship.

Carnival Legend by reitzda1

Overall the cruise was good. This was my second Carnival Cruise. The only thing I didn't care for was the food. Overall the food was just average, by comparison I cruised on the Carnival Elation and the food was fantastic and I was expecting the same from the Legend.
