Review summary

We are from Florida and even thought we have cruised a few times before this was our first Carnival cruise. I don`t think I would choose Carnival for a Bahamas/Caribbean cruise based on the popularity and party aspect of the ships. I wasn`t sure what to expect for an Alaska cruise but our overall experience was pretty good. Our cabin was big and clean. Decoration a bit outdated. Entertainment was good and fun. Food could have been a little better. Excursions was pricey either booking with cruise line or not. People were nice.

Embarkation

Good. Lines were long but constant moving.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
There was not a lot of options on the buffet. There was 2 of the same station/style of food on both sides of the cafeteria. In the main dining room the meals were average.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Fitness room was alright. It was too cold to use the pool. We like the shuffle board and darts in one of the bars.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Shows were good. Having a naturalist and park ranger on board was very informative. The show in Skagway from Alaskan singer and story teller was pretty good. Some of the other shows was funny. Trivia and games were good.

Children's Programs

We had no kids with us.

We sail Carnival often and love the Caribbean itineraries they offer. The 7+ day cruises are NOT "booze cruises," hit more islands than other lines, and offer a wide variety of amenities. We have found a great mix of ages, without too many kids or "party seekers." We love the Spirit class ships built in the early 2000's. They are easy to move around in, not too big, and even with a bit of rust (lots of trips through the salty seas!), they are kept clean and nice! And... I can cruise more often to great places for less money. Yes, we have sailed several lines, some much pricier, but working toward Diamond on Carnival! We love all of the reasons to cruise the Fun Ships!

The Carnival 7 day cruises out of Tampa would be close to your Alaskan cruise. There are a lot of Florida seniors who sail out of Tampa. It is definitely an older clientele especially for Carnival. We have sailed 3 Carnival Cruises out of Tampa. They were fun but not crazy.
