Review summary

The cruise was very nice. The best part was the kids camp.

However I was very disappointed that the cruise ship didn't go where I paid for six (6) people to go to. I picked this cruise to go to Belize, to see old school friends. And due to the weather we was unable to go. I thank the cruise liner for having our safety in hand.

When i I went to the coustmer service desk the female agent was explaining to me and what I can do once I went back to New York. In the process a male agent came out on to the floor and start to become very nasty with the coustmer, starting " there's nothing the Carnival can do so get off the line if that is way we are here."

This response start to make the passage more angry where as that agent threatened to call security. I found that very  Unappropriate , and poor public relations.

I spent money to fly to Miami to catch this  particular ship, spending more money I could of go straight from NY to go to Bahamas.

I believe that Carnival Glory should reimbursement me the difference of cost to go to the Bahamas, as well as make amends for the inconvenience, that me and my family had to endure.

Be aware that I have chosen to go onto carnival oppose to other cruise line because of the fact of service and being a VIP coustmer over ten (15) years of  patronizing Carnival.

I totally agree. I am a RN. I see people at their worst. They are scared and in pain. I chose to be a nurse because I truly love helping people. Regardless of their behavior, I treat people with kindness. When you are in a service industry, you need to have the right attitude and whether it's a hospital or a service representative all people should be treated with respect and dignity.

OJS - I understand you were upset and it is only human to want to voice it. I also understand how poor customer service can take a bad situation and make it worse because your review is a classic example. Now, before anyone gets all hot and bothered with what I have to say, pay close attention to the progression of the review. It starts off good. Even got 4 stars. But the more the reviewer thinks about how the situation was handle by customer service (first very nicely by one service rep then another chimes in and the situation turns south), the review also takes a turn. Frankly, customers are going to complain. It's the very nature of customer service. It's why I work the back office. If you can't handle complaining customers (which I can't so I don't) then don't be in customer service in the first place. Many times I have felt the strong desire to side with the irate customer just because the rep was nasty - even when the customer was completely off base. OJS is just expressing a reaction to poor customer service. Yes, they are disappointed that they missed a port and recognize - even appreciate - the fact the line kept them safe. But, that's not why they are upset. They are upset because it's human nature to be frustrated when things don't go the way we plan and it's human nature to want to give voice to the frustration. But it is highly unprofessional to be downright rude to a customer when your very function is to service the customer - which, in itself, implies a degree of finesse. In such a case, from the customer's perspective, an injustice has occurred and it's only human nature to want justice restored in such a situation. OJS - I know your experience will not keep you from enjoying future cruises. I thank you for recognizing that not all customer service reps are - well - unfit for the title. That is clearly seen by the fact that you not only gave the cruise 4 stars but actually began on a positive note despite it all.

Better to be safe than sorry. Sounds like you were safe and sorry. Just be glad you were safe.

I too choose a cruise based on ports, and would be disappointed if I didn't go where I spent hours researching, planning and dreaming about. That being said, I also would be thankful that they didn't risk my life or others for an unpredictable storm that ultimately became a hurricane (and destroyed the port of Belize). There's always a risk. I thought about this for awhile because there have been so many others making the same complaint. If they reimburse one, they have to reimburse all, and that is a lot of money. With that being said, should there be some obc for a future cruise, perhaps. They give away vouchers if you book a future cruise with two to share. They simply could not give the two to share and then pass those obc to whomever complained. It would stop all the negative posts, ensure a future passage (because that's the livelihood of the business) and let those who were upset get something for their complaints. I don't think I would have stood in a line complaining, I would have simply just enjoyed the rest of the cruise wherever they took me. Expecting something because you traveled out of a different port isn't very fair. You chose to leave from that port. How much would it have been to take a cruise to Cayman islands and Honduras? That's what needs to be looked at, not where you didn't go, but where you did go. If you can show a cruise to Cayman Island, Honduras and the Bahamas is considerably less, then you would have some ground to stand on; however I am unsure if there's a cruise that does this. You aren't just paying for the port (because let's face it, they aren't making money when you're off the ship) you are paying for transportation, food, drinks, a bed, bathroom and place to call yours. If they failed in giving you that, then complain, if they didn't, then is it fair to expect so much? I get it, I really do, I would have been disappointed too, but I guess I only hold people accountable when something was in their control. Unfortunately, mother nature trumped carnival (and every other cruise line going to those ports). Just my thoughts and don't crucify me, they are simply my thinking out loud!

Wow your not a first time cruiser, than you should already know Carnival first responsibly is the safety of its passenger's,ship and crew. Disappointed you missed a port but better to be alive than risk the entire ship. Only God can predict the weather best we can do is avoid the storm.

Laughable! carnival should reimburse you the difference for the price from Miami to Bahamas.....laughable!! You should get NOTHING. as stated above, due to weather ...or because they feel like it that day...they can changed ports at anytime. It's all in your contract...and its that way no matter what cruise line you go on.

TNTGreen    8 years ago

In your cruise contract it states itinerary may be changed at anytime. At least the captain took you to an alternative destination because he could have just made it sea days. The risk you take when you cruise during hurricane season which is July through the month of November(in case you decide to book a future cruise with any cruise line).

edmia    8 years ago

I agreed with the reply. I was on your cruise and when the announcement said with the port of change I was a little disappointed. But then I was happy that the alternate port was one that I haven't visited. Freeport is beautiful and we certainly had a wonderful time. Same for Nassau, even this was our 5th in Nassau. In reality OJS, that's the price of cruising during the hurricane season.

rhondarhenae    8 years ago

It's not Carnivals fault there was a hurricane and it does say in your cruise papers that they can change ports or skip ports at any time. Read your documents. It's the same on all cruise lines. No one's getting any money back. You're alive! People died in that storm.
