Review summary

A woman killed herself while my family and I was on our cruise. Though I feel for the family I am not happy that all I got back was $50 and 25% off the next cruise. I still have nightmares from seeing them pull her dead body out of the ocean.   I cannot say that I plan to sail back with Carnival may try Royal Caribbean therefore the 25% will not benefit me. We never got to go to the  Grand Cayman.

I'll take you're 25% off if you don't want it..

Wow is all I have to say. How in the world can you blame carnival? Did they make her jump? Did they make you stand there and watch the recovery. No! There are a ton of places you could have gone so you didn't have to watch it. But did you? So how on earth is it carnivals fault that you were to stupid or nosey to go somewhere else? You stayed there. That is YOUR fault.

jimdee    9 years ago

I really do not see why you fall to Carnival cruises for the act of some stupid lady if she wanted to kill her self she should've done it at home out of the site of anybody else

Forward me the $50 and the 25% off on the next cruise, I will perform a thorough and unbiased investigation. Now it probably will be investigated from the sauna or the blue iguana or guys burger bar but IT WILL BE INVESTIGATED. A full report will be provided as soon as I sober up and can see well enough to write it. Just offering!!!!

It must have been awful to witness such a tragic event while on what was most likely supposed to be a trip to relax and unwind. I'm not sure what Carnival was thinking when they took that huge ship all the way out in the middle of that vast body of water. I personally am standing behind triplets on the stance of Carnival being reckless and irresponsible. To that end, Triplets if you want to

what are you on? you have only thought about how much compo you can get. what about that poor woman who died for whatever reason. Blaming Carnival is not the right thing to do. Actually they will be better off without you as cruisers.

*should say person

Someone suggested that the original peron may have deleted their post because of all the negative remarks. Did they really think everyone was going to jump on their self pity party? If that was the case I feel sorry for them. To live life thinking everything/one must be their way must not have much of a life

erickalsie    9 years ago

just imagine you are travelling by bus or train and someone jump in front and suicide ,are you going to get discount for the next trip, so selfish guys come on think before saying anything Respect each other ,can be your love one too

@devincmills...OK...WE GET IT!!! You HATE Carnival!!! It's all you post when you reply to Carnival posts!! If you hate Carnival so much, why even read the reviews since you will obviously never sail with them!!

crosst    9 years ago

if the sight of the dead body was upsetting, why were you watching?

dcaland2001    9 years ago

I did make a comment about the person missing a port. Again I will stress that I am sure the cruise lines hate the fact that they have to miss ports, be it bad weather or emergencies. But I don't understand the 1 star. Yes it sucks that this happened. But life is not always about Me, ME, ME. Why do people think the world should revolve around their wants and needs. Did they really need to go to that port or they just wanted to go to that port. Always something for nothing

Hi -

As disturbing as any tragedy is, I agree with previous statements that no one forced you to watch them pull this poor woman's body from the ocean. I work in health care and do not share people's morbid curiosity as to occurrences like this.  I see enough pain and suffering because of my work. You just can't unsee something so my advice is always to find something else to do rather than just stand and stare.

As for the change in your itinerary, Carnival was rather generous in adding a discount on a future cruise.  While refunding the port charge is standard, the future cruise discount is not. Perhaps with some additional time, you can find more to have enjoyable memories about.

Okay everybody! I'm sure she has gotten the point and probably deleted the app so as not to even read all of these comments. i thought we were supposed to be talking about ports and excursions and cruise lines. Why are we feeding this line of DRAMA? Too much already!

missysmith1028    9 years ago

Seriously! !! I wouldn't have expected anything from carnival...and I heard they went above and beyond that for that family and the cruisers....nobody made you watch, ,,you sound like a nosey selfish person. .

boomcammommy    9 years ago

Why were you standing and looking. Once you knew what was going on why didn't you go to another part of the ship so YOU wouldn't be subjected to seeing her body being pulled from the ocean. People will always look for a reason to get something for nothing. Take you out of this and think of the family who lost a loved one and their lives will never be the same and not what you think you should have

ajdempsie    9 years ago

1. That's horrible and I give my condolences to the family. 2. That's pretty selfish of you to blame Carnival. You don't seem to care about that lady or her family. 3. If you don't like what Carnival did, maybe you shouldn't cruise at all.

dcaland2001    9 years ago

I also wonder what you want them or any cruise line to do. When filling out your information there would be be a question on the form asking about the state of your mental health (past, present, future). Have armed guards at the railings at all times, a recorded message stating move away from the rails if you happen to touch a railing. I am also sure they didn't make an announcement on the loud speaker for everyone move to the port side of the ship(or starboard) if you want to see something tragic. This is what you would want to happen? It sounds like cruising is not for you. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. It doesn't sound like you could care. In your case it is ME, ME, ME

dcaland2001    9 years ago

Again 1 star because you were unable to go to one port because of what happened. It sounds like you are like the people on freeways that need to slow down and look at everything that is going on with an accident. I'm sure the cruise line did not want this to happen, and did what they thought was appropriate in the time. The fact is it could have happened on any ship any cruise line.

rcguy1982    9 years ago

It's not carnival's fault about the horrible tragedy that happened. Give me a break, maybe you should be happy you got compensated at all. Ridiculous

JusMe    9 years ago

Not fair to blame Carnival for a passenger jumping off the ship to kill herself. A death on a cruise always puts a damper on the cruise.

When I was on RCI Song Of America a gentleman at the next table dropped into his dinner plate,  just face down "Thunk".  The ship doctor was called and they tried to revive him with CPR and cardiac paddles,  Nothing worked he was dead.

I did not expect any credit or money from RCI,   I felt terminable for the family and the crew.

Maybe you should think of others.  It is so common for people to die on a ship that the ships have morgue storage.

kathymj    9 years ago

all i can say is the poor women's family i wouldn't expect anything back

that's sas

abesman    9 years ago

Im sure that missing Grand Caymans was disapointing but Carnival wasn't at fault and unfortunately there are so many mentally ill people out there its fortunate that she did take others with her. Try to focus on your more pleasant memories of the trip and count your blessings that you were able to go at all. i hope you find peace.

gtack    9 years ago

how is that carnivals fault? it's very generous they gave you any money let alone a discount for a future cruise.

cruisin850    9 years ago

"all you got back" seems like a selfish attitude. Sadly your cruise was not the fun trip you had hoped for, but it was not Carnival's doing. Plus, it could have just as easily happened on another cruise line. I am sorry for the nightmares, it must have been a horrific sight.
