Review summary

A very nice and relaxing getaway to the Exotic Western Caribbean. This was our 3rd Carnival experience and overall it was fun and relatively action-packed. We sailed with another couple on their first cruise and enjoyed showing them around and giving them a taste of the cruising lifestyle. Most of the staff was exceedingly pleasant and I would recommend Carnival to those that enjoy a casual, relaxed environment for a little less money. As for the debarkation "process"...it stunk. We chose the "Self Assist" option where you are supposed to get off the ship earlier by carrying your own baggage. Don't do it. The ship got cleared a little later than scheduled, so by the time they started letting people off the ship, everyone and their brother was cramming the hallways with their luggage. To make it worse, there were no updates coming over the PA and no one knew what we were supposed to do. At some point, they started announcing that Self Assist passengers from decks 9-10 should begin to leave, but a Carnival crew member was standing in the hall telling everyone to go. It was chaos.

Ports of call

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

This is basically a "new" town made just for tourists. We would have liked to spend more time on the beach, but we did the bicycle and kayak tour. It was ok, but nothing spectacular. Our guides were very nice and it was more relaxing than our other tours. One nice thing was that the town itself wasn't crowded and the beach was fantastic. We recommend leaving the contrived market area and heading for the local beach by taxi or tour.
Don't Miss: Local beach outside the market

We split our group amongst diving and snorkeling. The diving was great. The tour operator (Hugh Parkey's) was extremely well organized and had great rental equipment. The snorkeling was at Goff's Caye and was also very spectacular. We didn't have a chance to see any of Belize City, however.
Don't Miss: Diving, snorkeling

Nassau, Bahamas

We couldn't decide on a tour for this port, so opted for shopping. I love bargaining with the local merchants, so we ended up with most of our gift souvenirs from Nassau. We also walked around town and took in some local sites like churches and parliment house. The pirate museum and gift shop were way overpriced.
Don't Miss: Shopping

Cozumel, Mexico

We took the Mayan Jungle Explorer tour which included snorkeling in a "cenote", essentially a cave with water fed from a natural spring. It also had 3 zip line rides, which was a blast. If you are a diver, then the diving here is spectacular as well.
Don't Miss: Snorkeling, diving, jungle adventure, ATVs
