One of my Favorite Cruises by bsebal9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Carnival Freedom was a fantastic ship that had all the normal amenities that you find aboard most Carnival ships. The red frog rum bar on the lido deck was our most enjoyed spot. Guy's burger joint was on point. And the posh lower dining room staff was fantastic,

FUN - Customer Service Oriented! by kariryan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I loved receiving each morning a scheduled list of events I could do each day!

The Scavenger Hunts were the biggest blast!!!  All the staff was so polite, accommodating, and genuinely nice!

The two things that could definitely be improved upon is the ventilation on the 5th floor.  The smoking affected the stairwells of the 4th and 6th floors.  Also, I would make some designated areas outside and one of them not being the view from the Steakhouse.

The other thing that could use improvement is the way the safety drill occurred.  I understand the importance of it, but it was way too clustered.  Maybe having all 1st time cruise people attend from this time to this time or if you are in cabin numbers XXX you must attend at this time...

7 night western caribbean by dbenight

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We loved the cruise. Our steward, Ernesto, was wonderful. He made sure that we didn't want for anything. My favorite part is the dining room. The food is excellent but it is the atmosphere that makes it so luxuriant. I would like for the Cantina burritos to stay open longer. They are not open long enough and they are the best food on the Lido deck. Cozumel is always great, Belize (We thought was a wasted trip) and Honduras was our favorite port. We rented a car in Honduras (just $50 for a new car and all day) and traveled the island. It is an extremely poor island, but beautiful and eye-opening to how blessed we are. Your crew on the ship are exceptional.

Poor food quality and choices by blandreth626

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Food Quality and choices were Poor. Both fish dishes I ordered were over cooked. The quality of the shrimp was poor. The shrimp cocktail was limp. There choices at the Lido deck never changed. The best meal we received was Cheeseburger and Guys and Steak dinner at Steak house. Reservations for the the Steakhouse was made 2 weeks prior to leaving port. The prices noted online during reservation was $25/person but when we received our ticket after the meal we had been charged $35/person. We were told we had a $200 onboard credit that we never received. The excursions and Ports were great but the food and the promises prior to boarding was not as quoted.

I'd go again in a heartbeat! by jln86432151

Stopping at the ports was so exciting but being on the ship was also exciting. The shows, the food, our room steward were all 5 star!  My only complaints would be that my bed was a bit too hard for me (my room steward provided extra padding!) and the running and loud talking in the hallways at night.

Great Cruise by yoda1955

We had a great time without any issues. Food was good & entertainment was great in the comedy club. Had a good time in Grand Cayman visiting the Turtle farm/Hatchery & dolphin exhibit. Did a horse & buggy ride in Cozumel with a stop at a Tequila tasting event. Awesome!

Loved every minute of my vacation. The only thing I'd change is the food.  The food was not that great.  Breakfast was the same for 7 days.  Need to change up and get some fresher fruit

Fun Trip With A Little Disappointment by Sharon4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We love Carnival, and are loyalty members. We even have stock in Carnival. We loved the Ports of Call, and we had a good time with dinner partners. The comedy was excellent. Our disappointment was with the staff of this particular vessel. We had old open milk cartons from previous guest in our room refrigerator as a greeting. One of the staff who lead a majority of the trivia games was so stuffy and serious, he took a lot of fun out of the experience. However, Tommy was terrific when he did the games. We will return to Carnival,  because we believe it was not a broad Carnival experience, but a management of Freedom problem. LOVE Jamaica. Snorkeling in Grand Turk, and shopping in Cozumel. (Well, shopping in Jamaica was a must as well.) No problems large enough to take our smiles. We like the food and selections. I know that some people complain, but I eat all the shrimp that I can get my hands on during a trip. I would go again, but may select other vessels when possible. They didn't even have our VIFP pins. That's a small thing, but it's a keepsake that has meaning to us. VERY disappointed in the lack of preparation. It's not like we jumped aboard and they weren't aware of the passenger count! Love Guys Burgers, Swirls, and main dining.

We enjoyed our cruise.  It was our daughter and her husband's first cruise, and we all enjoyed it.  There was something for everyone.  Embarking a bit hectic.  Entertainment in Lobby great every evening.  Food was excellent.

The trip was worth the investment of time and money.  Loved Jamaica.  The people were so nice.  The comics (I only went to the the PG shows) were really funny.

A fun family event... by TXOutlw

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a great time.  I took my 95 year old father, WWii, Korean, and Veitnam Vet for the Veterans week cruise.  My sister and her daughter, my son and his girlfriend and one of dads long time survivng friend and her friend.  Then a couple people from my meetup came as well,

We had not all got the early dining option on our booking but I sent a letter to the special assitance carnival group and to my matrde freind on the Magic and asked that we all get seated for early dining, 10 person table in front of dining room so that we could get dad there on his scooter easy.

On my arrival, I found that had all been accomplised and we all had the same table number assigned and it was a great table.  Houston our head waiter was fun too.

We had a great time all cruise, we would get the big table by the RumBar on Lido each day and all enjoy breakfast and events and play spinniners.  We pretty much donminated that table during the day.

In the evenings after dinner we enjoyed acitivites on Deck 5 and on Veterans Day we went to the Vets event on the lounge.  Dad was so happy to have people come talk with him and they got everyone on stage to take a picture of all the Vets.

We had a great time and dad is still wearing his lanyard with his sail n sign card and his Veterans tag and his Jamaci Jack dog tag he got while we were ashore.  He lives in a senior center and is telling everyone about it.  He bought a nice blue Jmacia shirt to wear to remind himself and others how much fun he had.

This was my 8th cruise this year, 7 of them on Carnival.

My father 2nd cruise this year.

We are ready to go again so I have booked three for 2017 and 1 for 2018 already....

great experince by sjessicam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our trip was great. We traveled with my 2 year old and both of our parents and they did wonderful. We loved the boat and the activities on board. Excursions seemed too expensive and not for younger or older adults so we didn't go on any, but did stop at the beaches in Jamaica and Grand Caymen. Both awesome!! Unfortunately, Cozumel was ridiculous and the "scouts" working at our stop were pretty aggressive (that is that I am also Mexican and speak Spanish), hence we walked and only shopped there. I would recommend renting a car in Cozumel and driving yourself to sight see to avoid the scams.

Ok cruise by bstorm

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Cruise was OK, but the seas were rough and we swayed most of the trip.  If you don't snorkel or scuba there's no need to go to Rotan. In Belize, the Mayan temples make the trip worthwhile  If you're a shopper, do this in Cosumel and don't be suprised if your excursion to The Mayan temples on the mainland is cancelled.

First time cruiser! by mimilora

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Cruise was amazing!  Malcolm was wonderful!  We Salisha our cabin steward was always super friendly and remembered us! My mom and I just love her!  The waiter we had at Posh upper level table 522 was fantastic as well! He was from Bosnia but for the life of me i cant recall his name! Daniel the guitar player\singer ...loved him! Very talented young man.

Please put instructions in the bathroom about how to use the plug.  We only had one in our cabin that worked.(7245)  That was frustrating.

I will be doing reviews on our excursions as one had way too many pan handlers and made it difficult to enjoy. This was not on the reviews for the excursions when i booked them. Also for the Cheers program you may want to see about doing one for just the sea days.  Paying for all 7 days was too much for me and i would not have drank on enough on the port days to justify the cost.

Did not meet my expectations... by mwbuckley

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Have been on several carnival cruises...

found this cruise to be way below my expectations from previous cruises.

specifics... the food in the main dining room, and the service, was spectacular as always!  The food delivered to our stateroom - absolutely terrible from sour fruit to stale bread. When I complained, got the old... yeah yeah yeah, three bags full routine and then worse food the next day!  After complaining the next day, didn't get coffee, you would think they would step up a bit, but did not find that to be the case at all.

Additionally, on 2 days, the room was completely missed by the housekeeping staff, I was by then afraid to voice a complaint. Instead had to get replacement towels off the cart in the hallway.

The balcony was filthy with candy wrappers and dirty... had not been cleaned in who knows how long.

The rest of the ship was visible dirty as well.

This may sound like just a bitter review, so let me add, I've been an 7+ cruises out of Galveston and had great experiences (that's why I chose this cruise).

I don't know that I will go on another....

HappyActivities were great.  The food was fantastic. My husband had some physical challenges during the cruise, but the staff were excellent in meeting those challenges and the Mattrade was great in making him feel special by accommodating him.
