Review summary

I cut my foot on the shower door. I got the runaround between Services and the then-closed doctor's office. All I need was a band aid and some ointment. I am extremely upset that I was not serviced so as to prevent infection. I did not want to bleed on the carpet on the way to Guest Services, and they would not deliver anything. This issue alone causes me to not recommend Carnival to others, and I will likely not be a repeat customer.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Short and well-managed lines compared to other ports.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dining room superb, especially regarding service. Extreme kudos to Kalyan, Pratomo and Elizabeth. Did not dine at specialty restaurants. Buffets comparable to Princess, meaning average to good.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Did not swim - pools too small and overcrowded. Did not use other d=facilities.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Loved the towel folding thing. Musicians fair to good. Comedy routine also fair to good. Did not go to any other events.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Top notch. One bartender was rushed and a bit grouchy, but all others very good to superb. Waiters and room steward (Putu) extremely excellent.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Nice ship. Very clean in almost all cases. Very happy with this.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Paid for a balcony, and it was worth it. Putu kept us very clean and taken care of. We had sore hips after the first night due to the bed being very hard. We were given a foam pad that helped a lot.

Ship tip

Sorry to say, but compared to other cruise lines, Carnival is a step below overall.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

4 out of 5
Good experience regarding how the lines were set up, and the fact that they use the old Spruce Goose building. I remember when that was built.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

3 out of 5
Too hot and humid. I would like to visit again in cooler weather.

Mazatlan, Mexico

3 out of 5
Too hot and humid. I would like to visit again in cooler weather.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Too hot and humid. I would like to visit again in cooler weather. I used to go marling fishing there when the streets were dirt. Now it is a tourist town - so sad!

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Way too much reliance on being able to receive a text to kmow when to start the process to leave. I was really upset that unless I paid $20 per day for internet, I was left out of many things. Really a disapointment, especially after spending so much money for what I now deem as a very basic cruise.

Thank you for sharing. I will make sure I bring a medical kit with me to avoid the hassle in finding ointment and bandaids

You don't need to pay for wifi for the hub app, which is how you find out what's going on throughout the ship, including disembarkation. Sorry you didn't have a good time.

We have gotten bandaids from Guest Services on previous Carnival cruises. 😁

Carnival is really only competing against NCL, MSC, and Royal Caribbean. Many will say you're guaranteed a better experience on NCL and Royal Caribbean but that is just not the case anymore across those lines. So what am I saying? Yes you bought a basic Cruise
