Review summary

The ship is so nice. They should downgrade the Panorama and let this one do the seven day runs. It's deserving of the longer runs and needs to ditch some of the booze cruise crowd

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We stayed at the Queen Mary the night before and so it was super easy to walk over and get in line. Platinum status saved us another 15 or so. Overall, about 20 minutes to board. (That's a longggg ramp to the ship)

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I'm giving it a five because I went in with Carnival expectations and found the best I've ever had on a Carnival ship. We are in the dining room every night and while the experience was about a "3", the food was superior

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We did a whole lot of nothing! Mainly hung out at the serenity deck

Serenity Adult-Only Retreat

Big newish hot tubs that were actually fully working. A first for me-a Carnival hotub that actually had working switches

Entertainment

3 out of 5
It was standard Carnival fare. Not particularly good, not particularly bad. Unlike other Carnival cruises, I don't think I found any of the performers I particularly favored. The one show we attended, Color my World was weak with the singing voices drowned out by the music. They did do an outstanding rendition of Nessun Dorma in the lobby on elegant night. It wouldnt hurt for them to class up the joint like this a little more often.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Staff was always nice and helpful. Great room steward. Like others have noticed, dining room staff were tremendously overworked. No time to talk to the patrons, tables left un-bussed, and food scraped off plates into big piles (disgusting) waiting for someone to take it back. Strangely enough, a bunch of newbies showed in the MDR on the last night. Hope it helps

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The most beautiful Carnival ship I've ever been on. I like the old theme ships; but this one's Italianate design puts the Current carnival designs to shame. It's a Vista class so I already knew how to get around

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
It was a large interior. Shower door instead of a curtain was a nice touch. Two 110v plugs at the desk and two USB ports by the bed.

Ship tip

There's a big freak tree that grows at the Long Beach terminal and sometimes they shake a few out before the cruise. This one had a nice batch (but everyone was well behaved) Just be ready if you go.

Ensenada, Mexico

We did the Carnival wine excursion and it was very nice. I felt like we got our money's worth. It's always good when you don't have to worry about getting back to the ship on time

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

I watched the YouTube videos and should have known better. Yet we still went to Medrano Beach and had a crazeeee time

Disembarkation

It was a crazy zoo when we went down to the lobby, but somehow we made it off the ship in five minutes
