Wait until 2015 by rohit

Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We took the Carnival Elation cruise from 8/9 to 8/14.  The vessel itself is old and worn out and everything that's old is very visible. BUT inspite of the outdated design and worn out interiors, the overall value was good due to some exceptional customer service, great food (except for the pizza, which was horrible every day), very good entertainment and tons of kids friendly activities. The ports of call do not have much to offer and you're better off spending your time on the ship and enjoy their hospitality. We've cruised in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand before and their ports do a much better job of the excursions. We understand that the ship will be pulled out for renovations later this year and it should be much better when it starts sailing again

Great Ship! Great Experience! by dmdfri8311

Everything was great from the start to the finish of the cruise!  No complaints!  This was our first cruise and will not not be our last.  All employees were friendly and courteous and went out of their way to make our experience a great one.  We were overwhelmed at first but settled in quickly.

Friendliness by dbri354

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall we had a wonderful time on the cruise.  The entertainment was fantastic.  The food, as in other ships, was great.  The ship is clean and well maintained.  Excellent temperature in the cabin and comfortable beds compared to other ships we have traveled on.

We were a little disappointed on how the crew were not as friendly as those from other Carnival ships. The only time the restaurant staff was attentive to us was on the last night of the cruise. One of the photographers gave me a bad remark about my age.  My evening was partially ruined because of his comment.  However, the photographers take wonderful pictures and it was difficult to select what we wanted.

In spite of a little disappointment, we recommend this ship.

cruise 2014 by twocherbabies

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

One reason why i chose this cruise was the length of days. This was my daughter's first cruise and she informed me that she was apprehensive and wanted a short cruise to determine if she would like it. Price was another reason. The food on board was average but accomodating. There were plenty of activities on board which we could do as father and daughter. We enjoyed our shore excusion. Cozumel  offered plenty of shopping which my daughter really enjoyed. My only other cruise was with Norwegian. The food there was great, but accomodations on the elation were much better. All in all we enjoyed the carnival elation. I would recommend this ship for first timers.

Good Cruise if you dont have a toddler. by kelceymorris

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was my sixth or seventh cruise.  The staff was awesome! The waitstaff and my cabin steward were the best.  The food at the sit down dinner was not as good as the other cruises I have been on. The entertainment was good. I enjoyed the shows.  I wouldn't recommend the cruise if you have a toddler. I got calls from Camp Carnival all the time to pick him because he was crying. I am sure it was because he was fighting with his cousin. They made me feel guilty when I dropped him off that I stopped taking him to Camp Carnival the last two days. Other than the toddler Camp Carnival issue, I would recommend the cruise.  It is nice to be waited on and your room cleaned!

Service was great but food left something to be desired. Not a fan of being charge tips to my account if I receive good service I prefer to give what I feel is appropriate as opposed to be notified that I was being charged after I was already on the cruise. All said and done I will probably not cruise with Carnival in the future.

Carnival Elation by cshop66

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Traveled on this cruise with my 73 year old Mom and we both had plenty to keep us busy and entertained. Staff were all friendly, professional and helpful. Food was good, not excellent, but we were well fed with more than enough options available. Comedy shows were great , with family friendly and adult shows almost every night.

Cozemel and Progresso Cruise by jminx

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a consistant Carnival Cruise with average food, average excursions and ports.  The staff is always friendly and professional.  This is a family friendly cruise with many children on board. Cozmel had alot to offer for shopping and sight seeing. Progresso was not interesting at all, just alot of junk shops.

Fine experience by gsfr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I took the crew with my wife and two daughters and in general it was a fine experience. The interior room for four adults was some what crowded but the room was clean and the beds were made twice a day. Staff are very friendly and always availalbe for help - they call you by your name from the first day. My daughter did not like the food and lost about 5 lbs in five days but for the rest of us it was okay. The cruise allow to board with limited quantity of alcohol and we brought some wine in our luggage. They did not allow it to our cabin and said we should have hand carried when checking in. It was disappointing they were not flexibile when we told them we did not know about it. The adult only comedy shows with Lance and Billy were halarious.

great cruise too expensive. by gilc613

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I had no clue the drinks on the cruise were going to cost as much as they did. I budgeted a certain amount and it was blown out of water in 3 days. The gratuty on top of that also hit me very hard. I will not go on another cruise because of the additional cost. I spent nearly 4000.00 for a family of 4 with a 9 year old included. The prices for the drinks are not the price you pay. You pay an additional tax and gratuty on the drinks as well. My bill and the charges on my card were different as well. I am very unhappy with that part of it. Everything else was fine.

PS. Progresso was a waste of time.

Great trip by vickiw92

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Enjoyed this cruise. Wish they had more shows at night, since I brought a friend and was her 1st experience. But they had a dancing competition on board and they did the last night show and it was very good. The service and food was good. The family comedy was great as well. The serentity deck was great as well. No a lot to do in progresso, cozemel was great. We did the dolphin excurion, it was great and would do it again. Was worth the money and time to do it. I have cruise many times and felt the cost of this trip was high compared to pass cruises. I paid cause was taking a friend who help care for me mom. Over all the cruise was nice and would take again.

3rd time aboard Elation by mjcole123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The staff is the best part of the cruise.  The ship is showing signs of wear and the days of constant sales (photos, junk, future cruises, credit cards) is rather bothersome.  Did the Shopping and Rodeo in Merida, the guide quite good, rest of excursion not so much.  Carnival has something to offer but expect a lot of young families and rather average food, Carnival does everything by bean counting so everything is that grey Ok with small bits of color.  Hated that they have started adding tips to bar tabs and other things across the ship, not so much a money thing with me, just insulting, strange thing is I tip well for good service and they will charge you 15% on bar receipts, basically this is a way to raise cruise price with smoke and mirrors.

Relax and Pamper Yourself by gotmooremel

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband and I took this cruise to Progreso and Cozumel and had a blast.  We relaxed in the sun on deck, laughed in the comedy lounge, and enjoyed amazing shows in the Mikado Lounge.  We felt pampered by the ship's extraordinary staff who provided excellent service every where we went, especially the evening dinner time.  Tiberius and Constantin not only provided 5 Star service, but were extremely personable and entertaining.  They made our evening meals special events and the cruise had phenomenal food.  Progreso had fantastic shopping deals and when we took the shuttle bus, they offered a $35 per person all-inclusive private beach deal.  It was well worth the money.  We pre-booked a shore excursion for Cozumel.  We chose the Twister to Isle Pasion.  Wow!  What an exciting ride, but let me warn you, you will get wet.  Well, that's an understatement.  You will get drenched by a wave of ocean water every time Willie makes a 360 degree turn.  We loved it and Isle Pasion was beautiful, with plenty of chairs, hammocks, shade, and kayaking.  Of course, the open bar at both all-inclusive beaches was the best part of the deal, considering the prices of drinks on the cruise ship.  So, keep your eyes open for cruise deals and we highly recomment that you consider the Carnival Elation.  It's not the largest ship, but it has everything you need in a cruise, to relax and pamper yourself.

Had a great time on 5 night Elation cruise by Gdiron

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

On this trip we left out of New Orleans, navigating through the Mississippi river out to the Gulf is a cool experience.  This was a family trip with 4 families with people ranging in age from 68 to 15 years old.  There was something to do for everyone and we enjoyed the scheduled activities.  I know there are larger ships with more amenities but for the 5 night cruise the elation was very good with an affordable price.  If I was going to take a 7 night cruise I would choose a larger ship with more varied activities.

The work out room was well equipped except a few of the treadmill touchscreens were not working properly.  The staff - our room keepers, wait staff, entertainment coordinators and others were all kind and helpful.  Onboarding and offboarding was efficient. Dining options were awesome and the food was good.

This cruise departed at the end of May and there were about 800 teenagers and kids out of the total 2000+ passengers due to the end of the school year.  I personally did not mind but something to consider if you have kids and want them to meet kids and make friends.  We also saw a lot of teenagers drinking.

I would like to see more free excercise activities/classes. I enjoy excercising and I didn't want to pay for the classes offered.

Our two stops were Cozumel and Progreso.  I would recommend a trip to Chichen Itza (Mayan ruins), it took a couple of hours to get there but it is well worth it.  Make sure you have a guide to explain the history of the place.  We did not purchase the onshore excursions from Carnival.

I have been on Carnival Triumph out of Galveston and Celebrity out of Miami.  Triumph is a larger ship with more to do on the ship which is especially good for longer cruises.  The time we cruised on Triumph they had sushi everyday before dinner, we loved that.  The food on Celebrity didn't seem as good as Carnival.
