A relaxing getaway by carolynriser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This cruise was a gift to myself to celebrate retiring from a very tedious 4 year volunteer position.

As usual the services & amenities were excellent.   My one complaint concerned the actions of our table server at the last night's dinner.  He (Topu/Topo/Puto/??) pressured the last 6 of us still seated to consider extra tipping to him for the time & effort he put in to providing his good service & entertainment and to help his family back home.  I personally saw 2 of the ladies each give him a $10 bill.  To me this is extortion and put us all in a very uncomfortable and embarrassing situation.  I refuse to give tips under duress.

Good cruise for the price by vtm062461

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is a cheap cruise.  The first meal served should have been thrown in the Miss. River. The food was not that good.  However the service was great.  The stateroom attendant, dining room team and everyone else worked their hearts out.  The comedians were good.  This was about the only entertainment on board besides the welcome aboard show.

Carnival Cruise on the Eletation by amj004

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Carnival was absolutely wonderfully.  The staff was outstanding, especially Darwin our cabin steward, and Novita, Leomark, and Chrislee our wait staff in the dining room.  We would definitely recommend this cruise to others.  Book your trip directly with Carnival and NOT

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BOOKING THROUGH . THEY FAIL US IN MANY WAYS.  MISREPRESENTED  THE FACT THAT THEY WOULD GUARANTEE THE THREE CABINS BOOKED WOULD HAVE THE SAME FLIGHT SCHEDULE.  AFTER RECEIVING OUR FLIGHT INFORMATION AND CALLING THEM THE STILL TOLD US WE WERE ALL ON THE SAME FLIGHT.  THAT  NEVER HAPPENED AND OUR 84 YEAR OLD PARENTS HAD TO SIT IN THE NEW ORLEANS AIRPORT FOR 10 HOURS WITHOUT US AND WE HAD TO PAY A PORTER $100 TO ENSURE THEY WERE TAKEN CARE OF AND GOT ON THE CORRECT FLIGHT.

ALSO MISREPRESENTED THE 100% ANY REASON GUARANTEE.  THE CHARGED US OVER $222 AND WHEN WE WERE ADVISED OF OUR FLIGHT SCHEDULE AND ASKED TO CANCEL OUR PLANS WE WERE TOLD THAT OUR POLICY WAS ON 75% AND THAT WE WOULD LOSE 25%.  THIS WEBSITE IS TRULY NOT WORTHY OF ANYONE BOOKING THROUGH THEM.

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!!!! by cholitasavoie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Vacationing on the Elation along with it's crew members was a wonderful experience.  The food and entertainment were great.  It was so personal and comforting that the crew members even knew one's name.  During the entire cruise, I received only five star quality attention from the Elation's crew members.  We sailed through a tropical storm and that too was a great experience.  I would like to send out a special thanks to our house keeper Kevin and to our waiters in the formal dining room, Wichit and his co worker.  All in all, I definitely recommend this cruise ship and destination to anyone who is looking to vacation.  In fact ,I am thinking of returning sometime after Christmas.  That is just how much I  enjoyed the whole experience!!!!!Love

great time by dontammaloney

We really enjoyed our cruise. I only have a few minor complaints. We were not thrilled with our stateroom steward at all. I have cruised several times and usually one of my biggest compliments goes to the room steward. Also our air was not working properly. As far as the food and entertainment we loved it. We had a group of 17 its really fun when you get involved in the games and things that are going on.

Great get-away cruise by rpuriefoy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a girls get away trip and it was great. we sailed out of new Orleans and enjoyed a brief stay there sailing. My fried had never cruised and she was so excited  Everything went smoothly and we enjoyed every waking moment. there was always something fun going on. There was something for every age. we enjoyed the game shows the music and the comics were hilarious. The cruise is very family friendly and I plan to gather my family to have a family reunion on a cruise next spring. The ship was smaller than previous cruise I have done. But that was fine, the food was good.my first time on Carnival and I will try them again.Happy

My first cruise, and I'm glad it was this one by ashleynavarre84

Loved everything about it. The ship was very clean and everyone working on the boat always had a smile on their face. We departed and arrived on time every time. There was always something to do from the time you woke up to the time you went to sleep.

Wonderful cruise!! Wonderful crew!! Great ship!! by carriereaves1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a last minute cruise for us and we were not disappointed! We had a fabulous cabin. I had them decorate it for my friend because this was the first time that she had done anything for just herself. They did a great job. She felt very special. The crew were terrific. The food in our dining room was outstanding. Our wait staff were outstanding. The ship was one of the smaller ships and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. You could wander the ship and at the end of the day you weren't exhausted and frustrated because you couldn't find the place where you really wanted to go. I usually book way in advance but this short notice was terrific. Pack and go.

Had a nice relaxing vacation by joshmoskalski

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

While this ship does not have some of the amenities of some of the newer larger ships I had a great time. I did miss some things that we had on the first cruise, The buffett was smaller, the shows were not first rate, But if you just want to get out and relax the price is good and the views or the Gulf of Mexico are the same you would see on the larger more expensive hips.

Elation was the best cruise!! by starmommi

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My daughter and I took our much needed vacation on Carnival Elation, September 1, 2014 thru September 6, 1014.  We found that taking our cruise around this time, the flight and cruise prices on   was almost half the cost than the summer prices.  The weather was hot but we had a few very short  rain showers to cool us down while on the boat on sea day.  This boat was very majestic and beautiful.  I heard the longer the cruise, the bigger the boat, which seems to be true.  We took a three day Carnival cruise 12 years ago and the boat was not nearly as big and beautiful as Elation.  Great food, great room service (don't forget our towel animals every night, beds turned down and chocolates on the pillows), great excursions. In Progresso, we did the Private Beach excursion and it was amazing and highly recommended.  We were at the most beautiful resort with all the food and drinks (including alcoholic drinks) you wanted, included in the $70 price.  Lots of pictures that day!!! We had the the dream vacation without having to go over our budget.  Highly recommended!

lines. Lines. LINES! by curan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The only show I want to see is adult comedy, which is held in too small a theater. Even if you arrive 30 minutes early, you only get to see one set, then the theater is force emptied, and you get to go to the back of the line. As you give up and walk off, be sure to notice the larger front show lounge that is dark and empty.

Everything is lines on carnival. This is not my idea of fun on a vacation.

The staff on Elation was wonderful!  We had an issue with our cabin but it was resolved very professionally.  It was a very relaxing get away cruise for all twelve of us traveling together.

Our First Cruise but Not Our Last.... by rabyjames

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a wonderful time!  From the time we showed up at the port until we departed the boat.  The checkin was so easy and everyone we meet were truly nice.  The food was great, in both variety and flavor.  We had a grand time doing the "fine dining".  The buffet was wonderful for all three meals and snacks between meals.

Our room was very comfortable and adequately furnished.  I was leery of being on The Riveria Deck but the elevators were punctual and easy to get to.

We had a ball cruising down the Mississippi River, so peaceful!!!

Mexico was great but you could take Progreso off the destinations that you go to.  To much like a 3rd world country for my taste.  I have been to over 96 countries/territories so I am not a stranger to foreign lands.  Cancun would be a better destination.

We will be going again on this cruise if the price and the time lines up for us.

The only downside was that the lady making sandwiches on the Lido Buffet is way overworked.  She is there way to long with no help and it takes a long time (during busy hours and late night) to get your food. She is bustin her hump and the line gets longer...

the cruise went very well. the cruise stewards were more than helpful. the dining experiences were great as well. the shore excursions were nice and carnival was very knowledgeable and helpful as far as their shore packages. there was also entertainment on the ship. there were more children on the ship than I would have liked, but it was very family friendly

Great Experience by bradleyballard

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

A chance to "get away from it all" was just what we needed.  We chose to have a few days in N'awlins before we embarked and so chose to do a 5-night instead of a 7-night.  I won't go into minute details of our cruise experience, but I will say that we choose Carnival, having tired of all the folks on other cruise lines who like to look down their nose at fellow passengers and criticize every last detail of their cruise.

It is, overall, a younger more diverse crowd than the other mainstream lines.  People are nice, kind, and will invite you to sit down and join their table if all the others are filled.  I like the "feel" of the cruise, and while the line doesn't offer everything the higher-end lines do, there is still plenty of fun to be had on ship.

I won't board the ship until I've told myself how much fun I'm going to have.  I think that cruises are what you make of them.  My partner and I cruise for different reasons: he wants to do NOTHING and I like to get out, do some on-ship activities or just go exploring.  We've learned to give the other their space and have both US time and ALONE time.

The dining staff is tremendous in the dining room. Socorro, who is the head waiter in the Imagination Dining Room (for Your Time Dining guests) is excellent.  Again, the second night, they knew our names, our drinks and some other special things we really enjoy.  If you go, as to sit in his section.  You'll be grateful you did.

The only slight negative is the layout of the ship relative to the locations of the elevators.  It was no big deal, but I walked into the back of the dining room twice, when I got on one elevator bank slightly too far aft.

But, GO.  The sights are excellent and Cozumel is not to be missed.  Having heard about Progresso, we took a 6+ hour tour into the colonial capital, Merida, and then over a well-preserved Mayan town, Izamal.  I'm very glad we made that choice.  It was one of the hightlights of the trip.  We kept bumping into other people who were on the same excursion for the remaining three days.
