Very disappointing trip by brendacovington

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I have waited for years to take a cruise and was really looking forward to it. It was a very disappointing trip. Every person that I talk to you will be told that the trip was no where near what I expected. My family and I were just let down.

It's like a smoke shop and a walmart had a baby and sent it off to sea.... by NotACarnivalFan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I have cruised 4 times in my life, 3 with Royal Caribbean, and this cruise with carnival. I can tell you that I will never sail on Carnival again. The amount of cigarette smoke was so disgusting, we couldn't even use our balcony on our suite which we paid for the privilege to use! Yes, their policy is no smoking in that area but people do.. and when we complained.. OH we will send someone. Whomever they sent must have been blind as a bat.... and it was only made worse when we got off the elevator on the lido deck to have breakfast and there they were smoking and drinking away at 8 am in the morning. My family could not escape the smoke unless we were in our room, which had a nice cat pee smell in the bathroom (which I account to the bathrooms/staterooms being new since the boat was refurbished a few months ago). Oh, Unless you like it Nuts to butts, Forget about the hottubs or the pools, even on the serenity deck. The Kids overtake ALL of that stuff and then where there is no kids, there's the drunk people. The serenity deck lets teenagers in there and well, no serenity at that point. now, move on to the drunk people and the kids. The drunk people were your typical drunk folk. Bumpin into everyone, leering at the half naked women in their bikini's on the boat, and again, their lack of regard for smoking areas... The kids though topped it. Running up and down the halls until 3 or 4 am every night. Again, calls to customer care or whatever the desk was called Yeilded nothing.. Now, Lets be honest. Put those 2 aside and the rest was not all that bad. The dining room food was great, the buffet.. well not so much unless you like cheap crap (the Caribbean food was good on the one day). The pizza place, don't bother. If you like it, you don't know what good pizza is.... DIgiorno is better... Guys burger joint was actually good. that was our lunch spot. The staff really was great.. Getting on and off for ports was awesome (GET THE FASTER TO THE FUN!!!!! BEYOND WORTH IT). The stingray encounter on balmoral was the absolute best.. The best memories on my trip were made there. All In all, if they had a better handle on the smoking, drunkards, and the kids, I might have sailed again but until they do not allow smoking RIGHT BY THE POOL, I'm never touching carnival again.

Perfect blue, between ocean an sky by ccontescu

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We were a three generations party: grandfather (70), son (42) and granddaughter (14). Everyone enjoyed the cruise experience differently, but we all did, in very personal ways: the immensity of the ocean, the tranquility of the private beach and laguna, or the adventures with dolphins in Nassau. We all appreviated the personalized attention we got from the room steward (Seth), from restaurant personnel (Oana, Andrea, Cesar, Oxana) and the entertainment program (various parts of it, as appropriate for each generation).

Choose a different ship by bigb123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This boat is old, and even though it's been renovated, they can't possibly replace everything. Half of the elevators didn't work half the time, so we were pretty much forced to take the stairs the entire time. The cruise director wasn't great either. We only saw her twice the entire time. The food was pretty good, especially the burgers and the fine dining. This ship has very little for kids to do, so if they don't enjoy the kids club (which ours didn't), they're pretty much out of luck. We were never able to play putt-putt golf or ping pong because they were always taken and putt putt didn't have enough balls. They should have sign ups or something for ping pong so that everybody gets a chance to play. Our refrigerator didn't work for the first 2 days, and it took 5 calls to Guest Services for them to finally replace it. We had a good time, especially on the excursions, but we'll definitely choose a different ship next time.

Frustration by denam60

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Needs to have more staff especially monitoring for slick floors. Needs elevator dedicated to elderly and disabled only and have more room for navigating motorized wheelchair/scooters. Would be nice if you change attitude of general public but that is impossible. So many rude people and very frustrated.

Family Bahamian Cruise by afrprincess82

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was our first cruise with our kids. They had an awesome time and really enjoyed the onboard camp. I got the interior room because I was told it was great for families, and I totally disagree. The room was way too small for the 4 of us. Overall the boys loved it and we will be cruising again with Carnival!

Great cruise with only one let down! by jreed63

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Overall we enjoyed the cruise and had a great time. The upgrades to the ship were really nice, and the crew and staff were above and beyond great, going out of their way to be super nice and courteous and assuring our every need was addressed. As stated above the only real negative is the fact that the lobster shack was not operating the day we were on Half Moon Cay and everyone in our party was really looking forward to enjoying lobster on the beach. I think we should have been informed about this before we had to find out the hard way. Would still recommend the cruise as we had a great time and enjoyed the beautiful Caribbean sun and scenery, and of course the food.

Elation - Very Small Boat by tjones112

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

So, i'm comparing this trip to the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Sea (OAS) has 6500, Elation holds 2000+, one small pool, nothing good for kids to do, one small water slide...for the collage kids who want to drink, ok, for a family.....go Royal Caribbean and pay the extra $200 per person...it will be worth it!!!!!

Pleasantly surprised!! by kellyc3232

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I and my 12 year old daughter did this trip. My expectations were quite low as I have read and heard many negative Carnival reviews, and we have sailed with Disney and Royal Caribbean. This cruise was an absolute blast! Our embarkation was far easier and more civilized than I have experienced. Once aboard, lunch was served (Guy's Burger joint is the real deal - awesome) and we were free to explore. Throughout the cruise, our room was lovely and expertly attended, I cannot compliment enough the stateroom attendants. The pool and waterworks were amazing and had plenty of space, lounges and sunshine. Our port excursions were fun and seamless to get to and from. The evening entertainment was a favorite for us; we even watched the Epic Rock performance twice. There is a lot of energy and fun for all ages on this cruise.
