Review summary

The cruise ships are so large now and have such a large capacity for passengers that it makes enjoying a cruise difficult for me. I do not want to wait in line for everything and i don't want to be packed into a venue to watch a performer. I don't like having to wait long periods of time on elevators. I don't like having to take the stairs everywhere as I am 68 years old. My cruise boiled down to eating good food and relaxing a little. I was totally disappointed.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Probably normal but lot of walking and standing in line and being ordered around.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main Dining room was excellent. I didn't care too much for Guys Burgers or Pizzaria. Buffets were good.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Tried to get into a comedian show one night but was standing room only when we arrived. Used pool a couple of times and not so happy with salt water. Miniature golf was ok but nothing special. My boy tried to use basketball court but there were only two basketballs so not much luck there.

Entertainment

Most were too crowded.

Children's Programs

Child did not use the services provided.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service from waiters was excellent, room stewards were efficient , other staff were mostly helpful. Medical staff were very attentive.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I suppose design and layout were good. They got the job done. Common areas were mostly clean but saw a few dishes left unattended and sea gulls knocked some of them over. Decks were often wet but I suppose that is life on a ship with pools and rain.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was a little smaller than I had hoped for and with the sofa turned down into a bed there was no seating room except on the beds. Our shower drain was plugged on arrival but a call to ship services got this fixed. Television had a red streak across it. I could not get the safe to work at all. There was only ONE electrical outlet in the room. Fortunately I came prepared for a lack of plugs but never dreamed there would be only one in the room. Closet and dresser space were ample for us.

Ship tip

BE PREPARED to walk and climb stairs. The elevators are not efficient enough for the number of passengers this ship carries.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

3 out of 5
Embarkation and debarkation port. No excursions. More walking and waiting in line. Was very hot in the terminal. Nightmare loading and unloading passengers and traffic patterns. Rude traffic directors.

Key West, Florida

3 out of 5
No excursion. Easiest port to get off the ship and into town. Street layout was crazy. Didn't stay ashore long.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

2 out of 5
No excursion. Port is in middle of refinery it seems. Only a couple of nearby shopping areas and mostly just souvenirs. I thought I had sailed 1000 miles to visit a flea market. No need to return here.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

2 out of 5
Tinders were ok. Waters of the island were very nice and clear but the limited swimming area kept our primary objective from being met (snorkeling). Did not schedule an excursion because we were told that snorkeling was good there. Meal on the island was not so good. My burger was burnt badly . Was very disappointed.

Nassau, Bahamas

Another tourist trap if you didn't have an excursion. The town that was within walking distance was a little sketchy. More flea market areas. When we were there there were three cruise ships in port. Town was very crowded and the walk from the ship to town was a half mile. I have no reason to return here either.

Disembarkation

We checked our luggage the night before and were told to be out of our rooms by 8:30. Could not catch and elevator to lobby because of number of people. Could not even go to lobby to sit and wait for our 10:00 debarkation time. We were sent to wait on floors above. All of the seating in the lobby were open as they had blocked it off and made lines for debarkation. When we did get to debark we were herded out to a sign that said passports one direction and birth certificates another direction. Wife and I had passports but child only had birth certificate so wasn't sure which direction to go. When we got to baggage claim there were no porters to help get baggage to parking pickup. We had tried to help keep traffic down by scheduling our ride to coincide with our debarkation time but we debarked early so had to wait for our ride on the curb. There was not enough seating outside the terminal housing so we stood in the heat for a while. Was not happy with the debarkation process.
