Beautiful Cruise - but some disappointments by jbonarrigo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The cruise itself was wonderful.  Disappointments with the treatment of Diamond Level Elderly passengers. Happy

Location of cabin was terrible.  Travelling with my 89 year-old Mother and we were the very last cabin down a long aisle.  They could not accommodate a room change even though we believe some passengers did leave their rooms and a cousin was given a room change as she arrived.  As a RC Diamond Level traveller it was disapointing.

Fall Leaves on the Brilliance of the Seas....BRILLIANT by Cruiser178

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

We had THE best weather, saw the most stunning colors, and loved our experience on board.  We enjoyed coming to Boston early and staying at the Best Western Sam Addams Inn and seeing the city.  Loved all the stops, but especially Portland and Bar Harbor in Maine.

A perfect fall cruise. by armandjr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

An enjoyable cruise to four friendly ports. Spoke to many fellow passengers on the trip and virtually all of them were pleased. Have been on a dozen cruises and can't recall one that didn't have someone complaining. Have already booked similar cruise for next fall.

WHAT A DISSAPOINTING BIRTHDAY CRIUSE FOR US. by Cruiser511

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

THIS WAS SUCH A DISSAPOINTING CRUISE FOR US.  WE CELELBRATED BOTH OF OUR BIRTHDAYS ON THIS CRUISE.    THIS SHIP IS NOT AS PRETTY AS MOST OF RCCL'S SHIPS AND WE WERE EXTREMELY UPSET ABOUT HAVING TO EAT COLD FOOD FOR 1/2 OF THE CRUISE.  ALOT OF MONIES ARE PAID OUT TO ENJOY THESE TRIPS AND TO BE DISSAPOINTED IS HEARTBREAKING.  WAITING ALL YEAR FOR A GREAT VACATION WITH A WELL RATED CRUISE LINE IS WHAT IS EXPECTED.  WE WOULD NEVER RECCOMMEND THIS SHIP OR CRUISE TO ANYONE.

Average Cruse Line by dgw0315

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

We knew this itinerary was a quite and relaxing trip and that was what we were looking for. What we were not looking for was a boring experience on the ship. We found the daily activities sparse at best. The nighttime shows  were boring and amateurish. Unless the activity was in a bar area the bar service was sparse and slow. We have been on about 8-9 cruises on different lines and this was the first line where you could really feel a class distinction. This line is all about repeat customers. There were lounges for different classes only, special seating in shows and in the cafeteria. Overall I have had a better experience on other lines.

Just Adequate by ijepstein

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Ports were very nice.  Food was just ok in the dining room.  Food was better on the buffet.  Dining room reservations were a joke.  Had to still wait up to 45 minutes past the reservation time just to be seated.  Service in the dining room was poor and often served cold.

Ship was nice and staterooms were nice and clean.

Nightly shows were very good.

Never go on this ship again.... by bbk522004

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Disappointed.....Food was awful....too spicy.....we are old....we cant eat half the food selections......the food did not taste good.....and some were downright questionable.....

Entertainment was poor and cheap looking.....singing not good......

Since I have been on 25 Carnaval cruises I was expecting the same quality with Royal Carribian......what a difference.....I paid more and got much less.

Dining room chairs have many stains on them......some of them questionable to sit upon.

The shops are too expensive and little merchandise for extra large persons.

Sales people in shops snooty.....condescending.....

Brilliance of the Seas Boston to Canada Cruise by csantack

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The ship and the staff are wonderful! The ship is a little smaller than what I'm used to cruising on, but I didn't really miss the ice skating rink since I'm terrible at ice skating on land, never mind at sea.  The movie theater was a bit small, but we made do!  We didn't leave the ship in Bar Harbor because of the fog. It was terrible!  You couldn't see 10 feet in front of you! If we had gotten tenders to shore, which was impossible, you wouldn't be able to see any of the sites!  My only complaint is the "My Time Dining". They haven't figured out how to make it work yet. Once they fix that issues, I'll give this cruise 5 stars!

Brilliance of the Sea by amyscottmckenzi

Great cruise.  Staff was so accommodating, friendly and pleasant.  Entertainment was great, very multi-talented and fun.  We missed one port of call due to weather, but the other 2 were good.  The dinning was excellent in service and food - a good variety of choices.  Ship was kept in excellent order, as were cabins.  was very helpful in reminding us of preparations for the trip.  Everything was done by both Royal Caribbean and to insure an easy trip.  Thank you!

Third trip to New England/Canada - Best Ever! by Cboliek

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Canada/New England is one of our favorite cruises.  It's been several years since we've been and we were delighted in the changes that Royal Caribbean has made.  No more midnight buffets, but improved food quality and flexible seating. More relaxed atmosphere and common sense changes. The best part of the cruise is dealing with Harry Kroll, "Cruises Only" extraordinary agent!

New England by lbohn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Ship was lovely..We have cruised this style before.  But, we do miss the Promenade/Central Park that are on the larger ships.  Staff was great, as always is on Royal Caribbean.  One of the major drawbacks was the 'tendering' into Bar Harbor.  Long lines. Our time in port was shortened because of the wait time.  Unfortunately, the Fall Foliage was not happening and we did not see any "turning", which was one of the reasons for a fall crusie.

Also we took an excursion entitled "Lobster Bake".  Was in a drab, hotel conference room and the lobster was boiled.  A very poor showing of what a New England/Maine LobsterBake should be.  Not a good choice.  The rest of the excursion was all bus touring; although the view of the Acadia was just spectacular.  If not for that, it would have been a total waste of time and money. Had no time to enjoy beautiful Bar Harbor town.

Otherwise, we love cruising and try and dwell on the "good stuff".  There is always enough of that!.

9 night cruise by WarEaglecruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Very clean, smooth cruise.  Had excellent weather for cruise to enhance our first time cruise to New England and Canada.  All personnel on board were excellent.  Just wish RCC would change the "anytime dining".  This was our 3rd cruise with RCC and "anytime dinning just does not work.  You still have to make a reservation at least 24hrs in advance.

The crew not as seasoned as the last time we were on the Brilliance of the sea. by Bunch

Brilliance of the sea was great as was the sailing.  I was disappointed in the some of the services of the crew, appears acting knowledge.  Over all we enjoyed the cruise and will recommend it to our friends.

Great Time Away by raynbert

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

After traveling for 3 days, then touring Boston one day, my husband, myself, and another couple boarded Brilliance of the Seas for our cruise. The registration was somewhat delayed due to several inspections the ship had to meet before passengers could embark, and stewards worked tirelessly to ready the state rooms. We found the time aboard very relaxing and pleasant. We took an excursion at each port except Rockland. I'm so glad we did because I was having leg problems and would never have been able to walk enough to see as much as we did. The weather was nice every day, making it extremely pleasurable for the entire trip. The crew was exceptional, to say the least! We enjoyed each and every one of them that we encountered, and they made us feel so welcome and special. Clo is an excellent activities director, and we enjoyed her humor and enthusiasm. I would highly recommend this cruise.

Long time on board by vermont

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Transatlantic

The cabin was the best I have ever been in, and it was an inside cabin, deck 7.

Everything else was mediocre.  Nothing bad, just not great. Amused over sale of Baltic items on a cruise that never went near the Baltics. For a long Ocean cruise, only had one day of rough seas and that was weather related. All but one shore excursion were great.  Had a fun time on the cruise and there was plenty to do. Cruise Director was fun, but food and much of the entertainment was ok but not outstanding.  This is the longest cruise I have been on so maybe this is common on longer cruises.

Brillance of the Sea Going Downhill by chptravlr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Transatlantic

Embarkation was good. Ship is getting old and saw many things that need fixing. Our room was ok but could have been a bit cleaner. The food was terrible. We had to send a number of things back to the kitchen. Sales were ovepriced and no T-Shirts of the ports of call. RCL is nickle and diming us to death. Lobster charge was outrageous. This is our last cruise on RCL. We are going back to Holland America Line.

The crew, from the captain on down was friendly, and always there to assistand advise.  Yes, well worth the funds and time.

Great Experience by sarahmd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

This was a trip of a lifetime kind of cruise. The locations were all amazing. We had great service and a really good experience overall. Our only complaint was the entertainment. It was beyond awful. Other than the swimming pools there was not a lot to do on at sea days. There was nowhere to go for a quiet drink and the musicians in the bars were either terrible or loud or both. We walked out of 6 of the shows. This was the only place RC could really improve their game.
