Review summary

I was dismayed on embarkation, as there were far more children than I am used to, but they were, on reflection, mostly well behaved. Having paid a large single supplement, was horrified to hear that it was only £1 for children to travel!!!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
It went very well, I think P&O has this covered!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Apart from slow service on some nights, the MDR was good, the food was hot and well cooked, and although sometimes there were not that many vegetables, you could always ask for extra veg, which I did often! Nothing was too much trouble, you only have to ask.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pools were often full of children, but being a holiday time, this could be expected

Entertainment

3 out of 5
There were, in my opinion, not enough production shows, apparently the troupe had just changed over, that was why there was no entertainment show on the first night, when I would have expected a “taster” and a meet the entertainment crew. I was unable to get a seat one night in my chosen time, and found a lot of seats taken by young children, I didn’t think this was fair.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Could not fault the staff.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Shame there is not a full promenade deck, you cannot get all the way around. Otherwise I was happy with the design.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin, was quite spacious, always clean, very comfortable. I opted for a double cabin, for single occupancy, so got a large bed, and good wardrobe space.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

5 out of 5
No embarkation port

La Coruna, Spain Did not visit port

Bad weather, called into Vigo, instead.

Oporto, Portugal

5 out of 5
Very nice port, caught hop on hop off bus, and had a good trip, for a reasonable price

Gibraltar (U.K.)

5 out of 5
I love Gibraltar, have done all the trips over the years, good duty free shopping.

Valencia, Spain

3 out of 5
It was a Sunday, not much was open, I may have gone on the shuttle bus a little too early, as it was very quiet.

Cartagena, Spain

5 out of 5
Lovely port, very clean, good shopping, as it was a Monday, apparently museums closed, though they did open the amphitheatre, don’t know if it was meant to be open, ship within easy distance of town, a few minutes walk.

Lisbon, Portugal

5 out of 5
Another favourite of mine, plenty to do, and an easy walk from the ship. Great custard tarts!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
No problem, a bit of a wait for my booked taxi, as security would not allow taxis to come and wait, but I cannot think of anything they could do, a lot of people waiting to get home!

I was on that cruise with my 10 year old and wished she could have travelled for a pound. I paid full fair!

Hi SaucySue, am a regular single cruiser so interested to see your comment about a hefty single supplement. In general I don't look at how much extra I am paying as it might hurt too much. I compare single prices so know from that if I have a bargain or not. Hope that you had a lovely cruise though. Re children, unfortunately you cruised during Easter holidays so not surprised there were a lot of children. Hope it didn't put you off cruising.

It is not unusual at all to see cruiselines let kids come for a dollar as they cannot cruise with a high fare adult. I do think singles should pay a bit less than they do but when you think about it there is little if any difference at a hotel for 1 person vs 2.
