Review summary

What brought this cruise to the top of our favorites list was by far the excursions offered and those we took while in ports.

Embarkation

Easy. Arrived a bit too early but handled promptly. Had to wait as ship still be disembarked from last cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food in main dining room was very good. Nice changing selection. Food in specialty restaurants of Chops and Jaimie's was excellent and worth the upcharge. The Windjammer buffet and Solarium Bistro buffet were very good. Solarium Bistro a nice change of pace from the very bustling Windjammer.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
They were pretty standard for a cruise.

Service and Staff

Our waiters were top-notch. Our stateroom steward was friendly, welcoming and efficient. The bartenders, for the most part were pleasant and made nice strong drinks. Others from the crew always had a greeting when passing you.

Cabin / Stateroom

The room was what we consider standard for a balcony stateroom. Plenty of storage. Adequate bathroom and shower. The beds were on the hard side and after 9 nights, it started to become more noticeable. Room was very clean. I only wish that the glass that serves as the balcony rail in the balcony staterooms would be cleaned regularly since when you sit down, the salt water accumulation does impact the clarity of your view.

Ship tip

Try the Solarium Bistro in the morning of the Two70 for lunch,

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

The port has been nicely updated. No excursions done.

Boston, Massachusetts

Never before been to Boston. Did the Duck Boat Tour offered by RCCL. It was very good and a nice overview of historic parts of the city and waterfront.

Portland, Maine

Did not do an excursion here. Explored on our own. The waterfront area is very nice. And it is worth the wait to stop of Holey Donut that is near the waterfront but expect a wait - and go as early as you can as they do sell-out.

Bar Harbor, Maine

Took a tour with Acadia National Park Tours (not thru RCCL). It was terrific. Our guide/driver was wonderful, informative and fun. Saw and learned a lot about the area and about the national park.

Saint John, New Brunswick

Went on the Saint John/Bay of Fundy Top 10 excursion thru RCCL. It was a 6 1/2 hour tour and never seemed too long. Simply breathtaking. Saw so many great areas and was taken for lunch at the Sea Caves. Lunch was really good. And a beer at an Irish pub included on the way back in to the city. Our tour guide was a blast.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Went on the Hop On Hop Off tour buses thru RCCL. Enjoyed choosing which of the 13 stops we would spend time at and for how long. And the buses have very good guides who narrate throughout, whenever you get back on. Saw the Public Garden before Hurricane Dorian. It was spectacular at that time. Spent a good deal of time at The Citadel. Well worth it. Only regret is we did not get to Peggy's Cove, which we understand after speaking to some locals is a place your would want to get to see.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
The simplest and quickest I have ever been through.
